To Marry a Fae

Rate this book
He's the fae prince... and the prize for the Bride Games.
Too bad I'm not interested.

Does that stop him from coming into my life and forcing me to compete? No.
Does that stop me from keeping up with my personal agenda? Also no.

The competition is fierce and the contestants are even worse.
As we enter each round of elimination, I wait for my dismissal.
Returning home is my end goal.
Not swooning over some fae.

Even if he's charming.
And he makes me feel alive.
Which I won't be for much longer if I stay in the Games.
The closer I get to the prince, the more my life is in danger.

Or is it my heart that's truly in jeopardy?

This is Steamy Fantasy Romance Standalone with a medium burn. Tropes forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers, rags to riches, secret identity, fated mates, fish out of water, competition/rivalry, dominant hero, kept secrets, magic (duh), "Touch her & die" vibes, and "Who did this to you?" energy. Phew, all done. (I think.)

2 Stars - DNF @ 85%

Decided to rate what I managed to read but I had to give up by 85%

This was actually pretty intriguing in the beginning. But it wasn't without faults.

As the story progressed I began to understand the type of story I was reading and I found myself becoming more frustrated as it went on.

The "heroine" Sabine perhaps would be enjoyable for most but for me after the first 20% I was done. She was far too everything for my taste. That's innocent, naive, stubborn, dramatic, and most of all insecure.

Lord help us all everytime her insecurities inserted themselves (which was all the time) and she jumped to conclusions.

She also was so silly to me. On top of all the innocence and naivety she possessed she was also incredibly lonely, desperate for affection and a hopeless romantic. Spare me!

I slowly began to cringe while reading her because of all these traits and how they were presented and written. Simply because it made this heroine of unknown age (seriously it would have been nice to know) come across incredibly young. As in she read like a teenager much of the book. And that was very ick to me. She never felt mature in any sense to me. Mentally or emotionally.

She was very repetitive and tiresome too. From one moment to the next she'd go from liking Prince Darian to inserting her insecurities and jumping to some dramatic assumption and feeling sad and worthless blah blah blah.

She was just plain unlikeable.

The hero Prince Darian was a pointless character. Hardly ever around for the reader to get to know. Certainly not helped by the fact all of the book is told from Sabine's POV and up until I stopped reading I had only read ONE chapter in Darian's POV at around the 50-60% mark.

The story was filled with Sabine's obnoxious and repetitive monologues and thoughts. Personally I did not care too much about Sabine finally finding friends in the lady's in waiting she was assigned. I suppose it was there to bring some humor and provide female bonding scenes but they were useless to the entire plot.

And then of course Sabine learns Darian has been watching her since she was a child and protecting her from a far since he realized she was his mate. Essentially playing the long game but oh ho ho little Sabine can hardly accept being lied to her whole life! 🙄

That was it for me. I was already skimming it by this point and that's where my patience dried up.

Truly this wasn't a bad book. Very problematic and had more of a new adult vibe than anything. It also wasn't really as advertised. Because steamy? Hah, nope. Hardly. And the hero being all alpha, possessive and very much "hurt her and die" type? Weak. Oh there were shades of it there but like I said before the hero barely mattered in this story. He hardly had a presence and how could he when it was all the Sabine show? Even the few scenes they were alone together felt pointless and amounted to nada.

Overall it read across very simplistic. Everything was just that. Simple. Predictable. The bad guys were boring and unimaginative. There was no chemistry between the MCs. The hero was was flat and lacked personality.

Even having skimmed to the end this felt more like a rejected Disney film with the tone. Too cheesy.

So, maybe it was more "it's me not you" situation but I didn't like it.

i'm back and forth on 2.5 or 3 stars.

i've seen this exact story done very well by several authors and i admit it's one of my favorite fantasy themes. this is a decent quick read, albeit nothing particularly special. it does just enough to keep you interested but there's nothing profound about it. honestly the gratuitous use of "the male" and "the female" was so jarring and ruined any chance of full immersion. at no point did the author think, "i should grab a thesaurus." there was a single chapter with Darian's pov but the book had me misled by labeling each chapter with Sabine's name throughout. this female is in need of a better fae romance after this but i'll give it credit for helping me out of a mild book slump by being easy reading.

The Bachelor, Fae Edition
starring a snarky female lead who loves stabbing people

Sabine our fmc, is a faeling - a half fae half human - who is ostracized and disliked by all. She's too strong and beautiful to be considered human and too human to be considered fae. Having no options at her disposal, Sabine lives a modest life in the middle of the forest far out of reach from either fae or human settlements.

Though Sabine's loneliness is stifling at times, she finds comfort in having one loyal friend and sparring partner - a human named Gil. In spite of her constant dismissal, Gil's feeling's towards her bubble up to the surface one afternoon.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Plot: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Chemistry: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
World Building: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Characters: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

All seriousness aside, this book was hilarious. Sabine and Darian have some amazing chemistry and the supporting cast of characters are fantastic all on their own. There was a nice amount of mystery and suspense given the unknowns surrounding Sabine's parentage and the prince's quick attachment to her. The hot and cold on the love interest's part was at times frustrating, but also not surprising when the world building is expounded upon.

There were some really nice fresh takes on fae and magic building that I wish was delved more into, and some of the plot was predictable. There were however, still some nicely wrapped up surprised that I never saw coming. Though again, I do wish that the situations and history surrounding the events were explained in more detail. The bachelor spin was in both parts irritating and intriguing as naturally it put a sort of tension into the story that was delicious and heartbreaking.

My only one true critique is that I wish that Darian's character had been given more time. Now, don't conflate that as a negative as it truly was easy to fall in love with him. His character is witty, grumpy, alpha, flirty and sexy - all traits I personally adore. However, there were a lot of holes that were never filled, as in why did X happen and where was Darian during Z events.

All in all, this is a really lovely book and it's one I could easily recommend to many friends. If you want a chill laid back read that will have you smirking ceaselessly read this.

If you'd like a comparison of other works to this book, I would say that the vibe to Deal with an Elf King would match this perfectly.

Good concept but the plot is rushed and it needs an editor.

Spoilers!
I’m all for a romance. I’m all for an infatuation/love at first sight. However the entirety of this book is maybe a week to ten days in length, and the main characters go from not knowing one another to being madly in love and plotting to kill his father together? The overthrow of his father is roughly 3 pages long, which is the final big plot point. It feels like the author had an outline of plot points and connected them all directly together instead of adding in character building, world building, etc.
And lastly, an editor is needed. Words are missing throughout the book in places, idioms are misquoted.
I like a good stand-alone book but this one has a good idea but poor/rushed execution.

Decent enough

I was looking for a book that would be a quicker read but would still have a bit of adventure and spice. This book has both. It isn't perfect, and it feels a bit rough and unpolished, but I ignored the imperfections and let myself enjoy the ride.

It was ok

It was good and quick read. A little spicy too and I enjoyed it so much.
The beginning was a little boring till “the game”…then it was more interesting. Also, secrets that came during “the game”, wasn’t expecting it.
The epilogue wasn’t bad but could’ve been better.

This book was advertised as steamy which wasn’t the feel I got at all. I didn’t get any chemistry between the MC. The moments they had didn’t give off any erotic feel to it either.

The storyline started out great but then fizzled out towards the end. There were moments of mystery but that got put out quickly. It was so predictable I thought that something else HAD to be coming. But no

I love books with POV from one character, which this was at first. Then there was 1 chapter that was in Dorians POV. Just the 1 ! Lol. That was weird and inconsistent with the rest of the book.

I started skimming the book towards the end just to finish it. I honestly kept expecting something more exciting to happen. Sometimes, for me, the story line just isn’t great but the characters make up for it. Not the case here for me, characters were ok, but not so much that I got attached. If that makes sense.

The best friend that situation I felt didnt get resolved either. In end the it was too predictable for me. The storyline wasn’t great and I didn’t feel the chemistry between MC. Also the women and men were constantly being referred to as females and males. “The female said” lol that was odd.

I love Fae books though. That part was interesting and I liked. I thought there could have been more focus on that though.
Anyways. No. Didn’t love it.

An easy read at 288 pages - about five or so hours for me. I had a long couple of days and wanted something brainless to read, which this met. Just a "meh" read with enough seggy-time to keep the reading happening.

Straightforward plot, just moving from point A to point B with no side plots or things happening to characters other than what appears on the page. Nothing happens behinds closed doors - not the kissing or the baddies plotting. Pretty much everything is advertised in advance.

Speaking of advertising, the blurb says "prize in the Bride Games" and if you are hoping for either a reality show feel or a Hunger Games action, you will be disappointed. This is just a Cinderella set up where Daddy throws a party weekend for the prince and invites EVERYONE who is eligible to attend, and his son must leave the weekend with a bride on the arm. No gossip, no interaction between contestants (mostly), no commentary, no audience, no real stakes.

Also involved in the "meh" is the main character. From the first chapter she is a complete contractionary creature - if a person says "peace", she says "war". If they say "hit", she says "hold". If you said the sun shines brightly, she will comment on the moon - well, flashlight, she has no poetry in her - but at least she is consistent. Added to the fact she makes friends WAY too easily for someone as isolated and abused by society as she has been. I mean, how she makes friends is really how you make friends in real life, someone sits by you during a meal and you hit it off - you get assigned rooms together at college and you click to best friends forever. Mean girls are mean-ing, good girls are good-ing. It's real, but just is ... easy? No real drama or growth for the MC.

The story is promised as a medium burn - and it delivers on that promise perfectly.

Overall an okay ingenue thrust into a fairly basic magic society into a predictable plot. A good brainless read, exactly what I was after.

Good until it wasn’t

I really enjoyed the storyline and the build up in the plot right up to the main conflict. Then everything was just disappointing. Darian is a strong male lead and main character. He’s made to be fierce and powerful. Sabine has mysterious lineage and seemingly a lonely life. She is witty, full of spirit and quick with a sword. She kind of changes throughout the book. I thought she was more cleaver and regal like qualities in the beginning but the complete opposite by the end of the story. Which leads me to the fight between Darian and his father. Darian should have a ton of power with his shrevia and yet he comes out weak. Sabine is no help, odette seemingly has two powers and Darians mom (who is suppose to be dead but held captive in the palace) saves them. The whole point of the story was for Darian to find his Shrevia, become super powerful and save his kingdom. Well that’s what I thought it was suppose to be. The ending felt rushed where it needed detail and detailed where it wasn’t needed, like getting lost in Sabine’s mussing. Disappointing execution of story climax and conclusion. Meh.

I really wanted to like this book. I was expecting so much to happen but honestly it was kind of boring. I liked Sabin but she got on my nerves at the same time. She was a bit on the bratty side and very insecure, which I can understand with how she was mistreated. She wasnt terrible character but i was hoping for more depth. Darian was okay too he was the normal male lead there wasn't much depth to him either. Honestly, I just read the book until the end to just see how it ended. I was hoping it would capture me more at the end but it just ended. It left some lose ends like her mom's journal we never get to see what's in it beside one part saying she milked a cow. When it came to the adult moments I even skipped those I had that little interest.

It wasn't a bad story just not one for me. It had a lot of potential and I think with maybe some more time the author could make a great book. All the peaces are there just needed more to it.

This was a captivating read that really immerses you into a beautiful world filled with magic and royalty. The author does an excellent job of building an enchanting atmosphere that keeps you hooked right from the start.

The plot is engaging and I really liked the Bride Games concept, it was expertly done and I loved reading about each round. I will say a particular plot twist was obvious to me from the get go, I knew what it was way before it was revealed, but that might not be the same for everyone, to me it was too obvious but that doesn’t mean that it will be for you.

I absolutely love Sabine, she’s incredibly funny and a strong character, despite what she does through, she’s also blunt which I loved. I do like Darian as well, he’s charming and a little mysterious but within reason.

Overall, I did really like this, it was great from start to finish and I loved the characters. I just wish a twist wasn’t so obvious to really give it that shock factor.

good read (slight spoilers)

I thought this book was written beautifully but there were many minor spelling errors here and there. The characters have a ton of chemistry and the spice is to die for! The actual plot is also incredibly engaging.
My only issue it that if you read “To Kiss A Dragon” before this book you can really pick up on how similar both FMC’s are. Both FMC’s have only one human they care about where they’re from, faint at the sight of blood, can absorb their partners power after intercourse, have similar personalities, and are virgins. Thankfully, about halfway through the book, it really blossomed into its own unique story. I honestly believe that if I read another book between these two I wouldn’t have picked up on it as much. The ending was also a bit rushed for my liking. Overall, 4/5, would definitely recommend.

So this book has all the elements I usually like. Powerful smart ass heroine and slightly grumpy but in love hero. Overall the story is short and sweet with just enough sexy time to keep me interested. I removed a star because it all felt a little too easy... From the big fight scene being over in a few pages to the heroines desire for the prince. Normally that doesn't bother me but I think I was irked that the heroine really has everything handed to her. The friendships she develops are insta-friendships of the "I would kill for you" variety instead of her showing what a good friend she is and then getting the same in kind. She learns things with ease. There just wasn't anything that the heroine needed to earn or work hard at and it made the fact that she got everything she could ever want, a little hallow. Oh well, the sassy banter between the two definitely helped me like the book.

Meh. This book was disappointing. Besides the fact this trope and plot has been used and abused recently, the book was a letdown.

I found it uncomfortable how Sabine has no boundaries right upon meeting the prince. She’s holding his hand and asking him to make promises to her within hours of him taking her away. That’s WEIRD.

By the way, what’s her age? The character development and world building are nonexistent. It makes everyone flat and reduces them to being only a servant, faeling, or prince.

And “Bride Games”? Oof. Didn’t care for that name. This book needs way more thought and attention. There are too many missing words and incorrect idioms. Beyond proofreading, the plot is commonly used and it really needed something unique to make it stand out.

I just can't with this book anymore.
I tried. But I'm not going to finish it.
From the beginning, and I mean the first page, you realize the author is new. The writing is very juvenile, but then the author tried too hard to not let their inexperience show by throwing in big words, that don't fit or work in the storyline. The bulk of the writing is just very simple, then you throw in these "big" words and it's laughable. It's also predictable, boring, and ridiculous. It's a very similar storyline to a better written book by someone else. The heroine is also all those things; simple, predictable, boring, and ridiculous.
No I wouldn't recommend this book.

Very good Standalone!

The storyline was great! It pulled you in and kept my attention. I had no idea what Darian was up to at the beginning of the book and it was nice to see the plot slowly come together. It kept you guessing for awhile.

The side characters were great. I love that for a standalone she really gave the side characters personality and purpose. It had you rooting for more than just the main characters.

Even once the purpose of the story was told, there was still the element of suprise. I had NO IDEA things were going to unfold the way they did toward the end! Good standalone with a great HEA!

Slightly disappointed.

I was promised a steamy fantasy romance, but this book failed to deliver. There were too many inconsistencies for my taste, too. We're told

This was a nice read. It had a good premise and an interesting storyline. But the overall lack of character development, and SO MANY grammatical errors (seriously, this author needs a good editor!), left me wanting more. 3.5 stars.

1st reading: Another cliche, subpar marriage competition plot line a la The Bachelor or The Selection. The characters are predictable and shallowly drawn, while the magic system is somewhat vague and confusing. We're told the king is an evil tyrant, but we're shown little to demonstrate this other than that Darien feels threatened and the queen has been kept a prisoner for years. (How is he abusing his people? We never really see this.) Dialogue is too modern for my liking. Typos and other errors increase in frequency as the story progresses, as if editing was rushed toward the end. The climactic fight scene is awkward and disjointed.
Not impressed.

Um… yeah not gonna lie i do wish that i listened to the reviews that said they “dnf” and “are embarrassed about it” 😂😂 yikes , here are some words to describe it:
1) wattpad
2) first draft
3) it was definitely an idea
4) Have you ever had a dream that you uh that, that you..
5) Dont kiss me! Kiss me! oh you hate me, well I hate you! Why haven’t you kissed me?!!! I told you not to kiss me!
Anywho if you want a cringy story with plot holes, weird story line twists, that aren’t actually twists but more like a whole different line, and no character development this is the book for you.
Yes there was spice but its not an erotica. 🌶️

To Marry a Fae (Miranda Bridges): Fast paced, standalone. FMC is super stubborn/self sufficient outcast who is half human and half fae, MMC is the broody/protective fae heir to one of the fae kingdoms, a cruel king, bride games/challenges to win the fae princes hand, manîpul@tion, bu||ies/bu||ying, fated m@tes, secrets, schemes, found friends/family (2 being hilarious maids), magic/powers, MMC has a deliciously hot mouth on him, spice, "betr@yals", v¡rg¡n FMC, fighting/de@ths. Kind of anticlimactic and I felt like I wasn't getting the "full" story/was missing information. The spice: good. The characters: great. The overall book: just ok.

This felt like a really bad episode of The Bachelor. Too many twists and turns with zero context, no real character development, and both MCs were just plain annoying. The intimate scenes? Lacked everything.

I only enjoyed the beginning, but halfway through it felt like Sabine got body-snatched. She went from a potentially strong FMC to a total simp. Darian wasn’t any better. His character made absolutely no sense. He was secretly obsessed with her one minute and acting like she was a nuisance the next.

Their whole relationship made no sense beyond the fated mates thing. I went in expecting romance and got whatever this was instead.

10 Star Read! I think this is the best ever written by Bridges! Right from Chapter One I was hooked…how Sabine rose above the Fae prejudice that she experienced in her human village, how strong she was with this adversity…it all coalesced into a fantastic read. Bridges’s writing was outstanding, you felt everything her characters felt. I loved the intricate plot. I would so love for this to become a series since I love these characters so much, I would be disappointed if there was no story about Dassielle or Muriel or Jastira. Download and enjoy this richly crafted story ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I really enjoyed this story. I did feel like there were some things missing in it though. I also wished we would have gotten more interaction between the main characters to see their relationship grow. I felt like that was missing and needed, but I enjoyed the story. It surprised me with how good it was. It kept my interest which nothing has done here lately. I definitely recommend this one to someone who isn’t wanting to commit to an entire fae series. This would be perfect for you.
