I really liked the Spiritual Gifts class, but I didn't care very much for the book. We already have too many boxes to put people in, we don't need three more little boxes: red, green, blue. The first part of the book really had nothing to do with spiritual gifts, it was talking about the three colors. The quiz to determine our spiritual gifts tended to take things we like and say therefore it's a gift. Not necessarily so. I enjoy learning about other cultures. That doesn't mean I have a spiritual gift for missionary. I love music. That doesn't make it a spiritual gift. I have felt more than one calling to teach, some of which have been so strong I had no choice but to teach. However, I did not get the spiritual gift of teaching according to this author because I gave 0 points, meaning I totally disagree, to the following statement: "I find it frustrating that so few Christians are able to express their insights in a picturesque and gripping manner." No! I am AMAZED when I meet a Christian who can express his insights in a picturesque and gripping manner. I wish more Christians could. I would not be interested in reading any more books by this author. I don't like his whole three-colors approach to ministry. I would, however, be very interested in taking another spiritual gifts "test" to see how it compares with this one. I did enjoy discussions on how we can use these gifts in the church and in the world. Just for the record, according to this test, in rank order, my spiritual gifts are music, healing, prayer, missionary, and service.
Probably my favourite book about spiritual gifts. I have read this through several times, thought classes based on it... it continues to be clear, Biblical and inspirational!
