Left in place of a stolen child, Mory was supposed to die at three days old. Instead, she set herself on fire.
Mory lives among her sheep on the high meadow until the day flames rush from her fingers and a beast begins to stalk her. Desperate, she seeks answers from the wild folk rumored to reign over the other side of the mountain.
Walker is a masterful storyteller. As mysterious things begin to happen, Mory, the young protagonist, sets off to discover her identity. She crosses over to a supernatural world, which Walker brings to life with such vividness that I couldn't put the book down. Mory's adventure is thrilling, magical, and charming. I was hooked from the very beginning of this fast paced, imaginative story, and I connected with this caring, yet formidable female protagonist. The ending has a delightful twist, which is no doubt a lead-in to the next book. I can't wait.
