Too many inner thoughts, plenty repetitions.
The development of their relationship, from enemies to lovers, was very rushed and abrupt.
Sawyer’s personality didn’t manage to win me over. He was arrogant, self absorbed and immature.

Fun quick read, & a great story.
I really enjoyed this book, the story is about a plot for revenge, redemption with a second chance at a happily ever after. The characters are likable, with character growth, and their chemistry is off the hook.

Thoughts - never has ‘Fuck off’ sounded so good! You’ll know the bit when it happens but payback is a bitch and I was here for it. I loved the foundation of the bully trope, you really understand where Willow was coming from with everything that happens. It’s was hard to forgive Sawyer after everything he did but in the end he was redeemable. Definitely recommend if you’re after a bully trope with revenge, strong MFC and an entitled MMC who definitely gets knocked down a peg or several.

Plot - Willow was bullied in high school, despite the hardship she faced it enabled her to become a bad ass boss PR agent. The gods have blessed her when her old bully reaches out needing her professional help, naturally she agrees and plots her plan of revenge.

I received this book as an advance copy in exchange for an honest review :).
I enjoyed this book. It was a quick read 😁. The story does have some twists and turns that aren’t expected.
However, the only negatives I have are that I feel like the male character capitulated a little oddly and that the story kind of went “too fast” as in not quite developed.
It felt mostly complete until the bonus chapter and then the bonus chapter “finished” the story. Overall though, it was a good read and I’m glad I got the opportunity to do so :).

HATE MATE is the first instalment in the contemporary, adult CARGILL BROTHERS erotic, romance series co-authored by Charlotte Byrd and Ronan Byrd. This is twenty-nine year old, Somerset Yacht Club CEO and billionaire Sawyer Cargill, and PR fixer Willow Anderson’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Sawyer and Willow) HATE MATE follows the enemies to lovers relationship between twenty-nine year old, Somerset Yacht Club CEO and billionaire Sawyer Cargill, and PR fixer Willow Anderson. A video of Sawyer Cargill, trashing the people of Somerset Harbor, goes viral leaving Sawyer and the board of directors spiraling in the wake of negative feedback. Desperate for help to fix his reputation, Sawyer hires successful PR rep Willow Anderson, a woman whose about to hand Sawyer the karma he deserves. Sawyer Cargill was and may still be a bully, having destroyed the confidence of a seventeen year old Willow Anderson but Sawyer does not remember our story line heroine, the woman whose struggles to move on from the past. What ensues is the enemies to frenemies to lovers relationship between Sawyer and Willow, and the potential fall-out as their private relationship may affect their business relationship going forward.

Willow Anderson has never forgotten the humiliation and destruction of Sawyer Bennett’s bullying and teasing. A call from, and a chance to destroy Sawyer Cargill gives Willow a hope for vengeance and closure. Sawyer needs Willow to help repair that which he broke but Willow struggles to accept that our hero is a changed man.

The relationship between Willow and Sawyer is an enemies to lovers in which Sawyer often reverts back to his former self, and Willow sees red every time Sawyer makes an off-hand comment. Sawyer’s mouth has already gained him a reputation that is threatening his business but it was his mouth that destroyed the soul of a seventeen year old girl. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Sawyer’s brothers Milo, and Brooks, their father Alistair; as well as Brooks’ best friend Quinn, and Willow’s best friend and business partner Sarah.

HATE MATE is a story of family and relationships, power and control, bullying and forgiveness, acceptance and love. The premise is inviting and interesting; the romance is seductive; the characters are desperate and strong-willed.

*Received ARC for an honest review*

To be honest, I almost DNF'ed this book about 40% in. But before we get into that...

~~~~~~~~~~
Sawyer Cargill FUBAR. After a night of one too many drinks in which he is videotaped disrespecting the locals, Sawyer hires Willow Anderson, a PR professional, to help him fix his image and to save his company. Unbeknownst to Sawyer, Willow is the girl he bullied back in High School...and Willow hasn't forgotten. And she wants to make him pay. While she initially refuses to take the job as Sawyer's PR savior, Willow eventually changes her mind and agrees to help save Sawyer's public image and his company. Does Willow flip the tables and torments Sawyer for all the years he mistreated her in High school? Or does Sawyer somehow show Willow that he is no longer that douche canoe that he was in his younger years?
~~~~~~~~~~

I like Sawyer. He honestly could be portrayed as your typical, billionaire playboy with no care in the world. But he honestly does like what he does as the CEO of the Somerset Yacht Club. Even going as far as wanting to expand it. He owns up to his behaviors and takes the initiative to fix his wrongdoings.

Now, on to the almost wanting to DNF this book...

It was hard to like Willow at first. For someone who prides herself in her work, it was hard for me to accept her unprofessionalism towards Sawyer. Yes, she was bullied in high school and yes she was humiliated by him, and yes she has the right to seek out her vengeance...but she was still unprofessional. While I understand that there is some sort of suspending reality when reading fiction, that was hard to wrap my head around. I felt that was some sort of regression of her growth as a bullied teenager to a strong, independent, sought after professional as an adult. However, that doesn't make Willow a weak character. I don't think she would be as successful as she is as a professional if she was weak. She knows her worth as a professional (and as a person) and is willing to advocate for that.

There was a lot of back and forth banter and tension between Sawyer and Willow. Their attraction towards each other was palpable and the steam was high. Over all, this was an enjoyable, quick read.

A very enjoyable enemies to lovers romance .
A story about revenge and changing your perspective, and misconceptions of a person you despise.
Sawyer Cargill is the CEO of his families Yacht Club and he makes an epic mistake by letting himself be filmed while calling the important people in town names.
He is angry and frustrated because they won't let the go ahead on an extension for the dining room he needs for his resort....and he lets his temper get the better of him.
What he desperately needs is someone to clean his mess up and perform a miracle in getting his reputation back.
That person Is Willow Anderson a PR Fixer she has the best reputation for helping people out of the most awkward situations.
But what Sawyer doesn't know is that Willow is the girl that he bullied and humiliated at high school and Willow Anderson is out for her Revenge.!!
This is a fantastic quick read I loved the banter between Sawyer and Willow,as the roles are reversed and Willow is in control of Sawyers life.
But with time Willow realises Sawyer is not the man she thought he would be,and that she may have misjudged him.
For the first time Sawyer is forced to face the consequences of his actions,in the past and in the present.Even though now Willow was a strong, successful, independent woman the way he treated her when she was a teenager was something that had stuck with her throughout her life...leaving her unable to trust.
The attraction between them is palpable and I don't think they both understand why it's there, but the sexual tension sizzles.
I Loved reading this book, there was minimum angst and it flowed wonderfully ,its a great weekend read..I look forward to book 2.
Fabulous.

This is a great start to a new series by Charlotte and Ronan Byrd.
Willow Anderson's schooldays were miserable, she was at high school on a scholarship which she worked hard for but with her wild hair, acne and insecurities she didn't fit in with her fellow classmates, all the offspring of wealthy families. It was classed as sport to bait Willow but the one day in particular that haunted Willow was the day of her prom, a prom that she had been so excited about, a prom where she was going to be humiliated and hurt beyond belief by a boy that she would never forget.........The name Sawyer Cargill would haunt her until.........revenge is a desert best served cold.
Willow earned her place at an Ivy League university and then opened a very successful PR agency with her friend Sarah, her next client was non other than Sawyer Cargill who was in deep trouble and he desperately needed her help, he didn't recognise the beautiful woman in front of him but boy, was she going to make him suffer.
Sawyer had taken over from his father as CEO of Sommerset Harbour Yacht Club , being frustrated because he had yet to convince the powers that be that extending the club would be a good idea he was shooting off his mouth with his best friend only to find that the conversation had been recorded and it had gone viral, he needed it to disappear and the only person who could do that was non other than Willow Anderson, how much grovelling could one man do ?
This story follows the enemies to blossoming romance of Willow and Sawyer, the hurdles along the way, the witty banter, the mistrust but most of all the electric chemistry leading to their HEA.

(I received an ARC for this book)

After Sawyer throws a rich man tantrum in his small town and it goes viral, he reaches out to the best PR for guidance. Unfortunately, he doesn’t recognize who she is. But Willow definitely recognizes him, you don’t forget your high school bully after all. She decides to take the meeting, with every intention to stick it to him! I liked the idea of her getting revenge on her high school bully! She became the better person. She had the upper hand. Except…she gave HIM the upper hand. He got exactly what he wanted, even if she tried to disguise it as revenge just because she could “control” him. I got nearly 50% in before anything really started to unfold. A full conversation took up multiple chapters. There’s twice as much inner dialogue than conversation. And while I’m all for getting into a character's head, repeated information or reiterating information that is already understood takes away from the story. It was obvious Willow is weighed down by the damage Sawyer mentally caused her, and it’s obvious that she’s not willing to let it go. So before it even occurred, the “to lovers” portion of this didn’t seem genuine. While the sex was hot, and there was absolutely an undeniable connection, I didn’t like that it was used as a fix all. This wasn’t a miscommunication or he was a bad guy to someone else. Sawyer tortured her, for years. He destroyed her self confidence, her mental health. And that’s just not something I can look past.

A sizzling enemies-to-lovers romance by Charlotte Byrd and Ronan Byrd. A refreshing, new look at ex-bully, revenge plot and an old feelings resufercing. The writing is riveting, engaging and invigorating. The characters are great, raw, real, dealing with real life problems, feelings, demons, lack of self-esteem and judgment. It’s a definite 5 star must read.

Sawyer and Willow were so fun, entertaining and at times heartbreaking. I absolutely loved them and their development. These two are complex and vulnerable yet resilient and fierce. They challenge each other. Throughout the book his other layers are discovered same as gradual change, development and feelings. While their path to HEA was filled with many obstacles, I loved they didn't give up easily on each other. They both took a leap of faith and were courageous enough to try.

It is so well-written, so enjoyable, so entertaining. Take a chance and read this book.

Grabs and keeps your interest from beginning to end. Fast-paced story with a lot rolled into it - revenge, enemies to lovers, the chance to fight a wrong and plenty of heat!

Willow has gone from the chubby girl people either ignored or or bullied into a gorgeous, successful female CEO of her own company. Her backstory was written with consideration and sensitivity of her experiences.

Sawyer is the rich man’s son who led the way in treating Willow so terribly. He doesn’t consider the consequences opening his mouth can cause until it smacks him in the face and he has to do severe damage control.

Willow and Sawyer together are combustible - they each don’t take crap from anyone and he especially does not enjoy following her suggestions. She has to set aside her anger about the past so they can rectify his situation.

These well-written, realistic characters combined with a great plot made this book an enjoyable read. It was amazing to see Willow stand up to Sawyer in a way her younger self never could. Sawyer, on the other hand, was forced to take a long, hard look at himself and his behavior. She humbled him. I definitely recommend reading this book.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and am freely giving my opinion. This is book one in a series - I can’t help anticipating what the second one is going to be like!

📖 ARC REVIEW 📖

Thank you @charlottebyrdbooks for an early copy of Hate Mate. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. 🤍

Hate Mate tells the story of Sawyer and Willow, who went to the same university together, but Sawyer made Willow’s college life difficult with his bullying. As a victim, Willow vowed to rise up from those struggles as she built her own PR firm. Years later, Sawyer, now a CEO of the Somerset Yacht Club, finds himself in a scandal after a video of him trashing the locals goes viral, and he comes upon Willow’s PR firm and hires her to fix his problem and reputation. As they both work together, old feelings start to resurface, and Willow finds herself falling for Sawyer. Can she forgive him for his past sins and can they go through their rocky history together?

This novel is a fast paced romance, although slightly driven by lust and attraction, I enjoyed Sawyer and Willow’s banter. I wish they could have had more scenes where they are able to grow their feelings for each other further as I found the romance too fast paced and sudden.

The story was also quite light and with little drama, I would definitely recommend this for some light reading.

i liked the writing in this one, and it was an easy read for me. although it was a little fast-paced for my liking but there was no dragging the story so it was a yes from me. also i'm not high into bully romances so maybe it got me a while to fully get into it but i still enjoyed reading this.
i really loved willow's character from the very beginning, and no doubt she deserves better. there was yet another example out that how plus sized girls are bullied no matter what. but i really liked the fact how she didn't let it get to her and eventually she became a successful woman.
however, it got me a little time to completely warm up to sawyer's character. although i really love billionaires but i was afraid the whole time he'll mess up again and eventually hurt her but he didn't do that so it was a plus point. although i didn't forgave him fully for the way he bullied her in the past but still. now if we talk about them as a couple, they really had some burning chemistry between them. and however the slowburn was literally killing me ( the ending was worth it! and the last scene (r) (& + the bonus scene were damn! overall if you enjoy a spicy billionaire with second chance romances, then it's for you

I wanted to love this book. I rated it a 4 star since we can’t give half stars but this is closer to a 3.5 star book for me. It is a solid premise with some of my favorite tropes. It was an enemies to lovers with a billionaire flare. They knew each other growing up. But where Willow remembers Sawyer and his bullying of her all through school. But Sawyer sees her and only sees a gorgeous and successful woman. Willow isn’t surprised. But she is surprised that she begins to be attracted to him.
As the story progresses their relationship grows and changes as they learn to trust each other. However, Willow has a chip on her shoulder from when she was a child and this continues to impact their relationship. But Sawyer is determined to prove to her that he is different.

The book is a really quick read, I think around 200 pages. This didn’t give the relationship very much time to deepen and or develop past the basics. However, at the end of the book they are happily in a relationship and moving forward together. I think this book could be really good, if it has just a bit more depth. But if you’re looking for a quick read with a HEA then this book is for you.

great start to the series

This is the first book I’ve read by either author and I was here for it. I do love a good office romance and they had it all with some angst and banter that I enjoyed.

Sawyer is in a bit of trouble and needs someone to help clean up the mess that he has made. Willow is definitely up for the task but when she realizes that it was her ex bully from High School, she sees the opportunity to get revenge for how she was treated.

I loved that we got to dig into their past to see what happened between these two. I do love a good bully romance and this book had it in spades. I love bully romance because I like to see how far the characters are willing to go and how they come back from that. When they have a way to turn things around so that it changes my view on them and melts my heart.. I just love it.

I’m glad that Willow came in swinging and stood her ground against Sawyer. He needed a couple reality checks to make up for the past especially if he banks on having a relationship with her. I loved the side characters and I can’t wait to continue the series.

Of all the people to hire Willow Anderson, Sawyer Cargill never came to mind. The thing is they share a past not a good one but one that has made her who she is right now. In his mind money can buy anything including her. After being bullied from him in school she is determined to make him pay. She had a plan to make him beg for her services but seeing him after all these years something has changed. It was supposed to say bye and leave but somehow the rich bully has grown wanting more than just money. Seeing him wanting something more than just money and now acceptance well just makes her heart softening. All in all it was good but for me it lacked so much more. I wanted more of Sawyer than the little snippet we got from him and Willow seemed more one story than a real character. All I got was Willow still stuck in the past of how Sawyer acted towards her and nothing else. One minute they're fighting and then making out just seemed too easily. Considering this is the first book in the series hoping the next ones will be better.

I am new to the arc team and what a great start. I just devoured this book, it was a real page turner. This is the first book involving the Cargill brothers. Sawyer is privileged, from a wealthy family and the new CEO of the family’s yacht club, but due to his big mouth when drunk he almost ruins the business. He needs help to re establish his reputation and the best person to do that is Willow, who is an amazing pr woman that has had to overcome a miserable childhood thanks to Sawyer. I didn’t want to like Sawyer (an ex bully is not a great quality to have)but once they spend time working together and he showed how truly bad he felt for his treatment of her he redeemed himself in my eyes. Willow was a firecracker and stood up to him beautifully after all these years. A dynamic couple and once they gave in to their feelings, were on fire. Loved this book, also downloaded the bonus!🥵. Can’t wait for Brooks( sawyers brother) and Zoe’s story. A best friends sister scenario. I am voluntarily reviewing this arc.

This is the first book in the Cargill Brothers series, this is Sawyer and Willow's story.

I really enjoyed this book, the hate to Lovers, it had me wanting more turning the pages to see what will happen next.

Willow has held a grudge against Sawyer since school when he bullied her and humiliated her at the school dance, she has never forgiven him and when she gets an email from him needing her help, she is delighted to drive and tell him a firm NO, she would not help him, but does she?

Sawyer had been drinking and opened his mouth saying things he shouldn't, not knowing someone was recording him and had posted the video online, he was ruined unless he could get someone to take it down and do damage control, a friend had told him that Willow was the best person to do this, he at this point didn't realise who she was, to him he had never met her but was soon to be enlightened by an angry Willow.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Sawyer and Willow fit each other perfectly!

Sawyer is the CEO of his family’s business, The Somerset Yacht Club. He’s done something that needs fixing. Enter Willow who is a PR fixer and owns her company with her best friend. Only one problem, Sawyer bullied her in high school. She’s now thinking about revenge. Sawyer’s in competition with the Macmillans who are building a resort. He wants to expand the dining room at the Yacht Club because they don’t have enough room. But, he’s having a hard time getting the permits. Their road together is argumentative with Willow having past emotional scars from Sawyer. The second problem is that they can’t seem to stop thinking about the attraction between them. Can she ever forgive him? Read and find out. You won’t be disappointed in their rocky road!

Spicy! Chemistry that can't be denied!
How do you keep your walls up from your high school bully when he asks you for PR help and he does not remember you? Initially, you refuse to accept the job and tell him to his face why you will not accept the job. However, when he wears you down to help him and you find out he has changed, your walls start to crumble. That is exactly what happens to Willow when her high school bully Sawyer reaches out to her. This story did not disappoint with the chemistry that flew off the pages; especially when Willow sees the change in Sawyer and she likes what she sees. It is also nice to see a heroine who is able to hold her own against a billionaire and his billionaire father. Once again, Charlotte did not disappoint and I look forward to reading more about Cargill Brothers.

I loved the start of this new series set in Somerset Harbour.
A true Enemy to Lovers story, one that captured my attention and didn't let go. Great characters combined with an engaging and detailed plot kept me engrossed.
Willow and Sawyer are true opposites. One born with a silver spoon and a belief that he was top of the food chain. The other is the butt of all his jokes, the scholarship student trying to make it in a very difficult and cruel world.
Roll on a decade, and Sawyer does something very stupid, still believing he is above reproach. Only one person can help, will she or will payback be a better choice.
Willow has Sawyer in his place so quickly. I smiled so much as he came to realise what was going on.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I can't wait for the next and highly recommend it.

This had me enemies to lovers billionaire! I love that Sawyer is a former high school bully and Willow is his forget victim! The way it's written is so well done! You feel Willow's pain that she went through and how it's affected her life then Sawyer's genuine regret. I was really impressed with how it was handled! Their chemistry is tangible but I could've done with a little more tension filled scenes. I feel like it kinda skipped that part and I wanted more of that relationship building. All in all it's an enjoyable read! Thank you Charlotte and Quirky Chimera for my e-arc! I'm excited to read Brooks' story next!!

Hate Mate : A Somerset Harbor Novel (Cargill Brothers Book 1)

Sawyer is the son of the last CEO. They own a yacht club. He opens his mouth and makes a statement that get video taped and it's released to the public. He needs to fix his families business. Willow is a successful PR Fixer and has a score to settle with Sawyer... Revenge from when they were high school, he made fun of her. Thought she was a freak, fat and ugly! She takes the job on fixing Sawyers mess, foot in mouth problems, embarrassing his families name. Willow goes to work for him, making him grovel and do exactly whatever she wants him to do! This story was basically a simple little love story and it was absolutely awesome to read. A stand alone story. The author wrote a good story, I enjoyed reading it! ENJOY

This is book 1 in the Cargill Brothers series. Each story will follow one of the men in the family and their search for love.

This book is about revenge and redemption. We follow Willow who was destroyed in high school from the bullying she received form the students including Sawyer Cargill. Willow was a scholarship student where the others were all millionaires and definitely did not include her in any activities. Willow was finally thinking she was fitting in until the last dance of the year....She was humiliated and that one event proved to her that she could only count on herself to make it in the world. Then we have Sawyer a fellow student and rich kid too handsome for his own good. He is the one that delivers the final straw in Willows basket and she will never forget him or the mortification in front of the other students........ Years later, Sawyer finds himself in a pickle and the only person that can save him is Willow. The problem...He doesn't remember her and revenge will never taste so good.

This story was a fun easy to read romance. Willow was a very strong FMC who is smart and cunning. Sawyer still hasn't grown up and is the spoiled man who has just been given the family business to run. Together they are explosive and so fun to read about. The one lines and quick comebacks from Willow are amazing. I would like to have seen more of a background with Willows experience in school along with a more in depth relationship between Sawyer and Willow. This was a super fast read that I enjoyed and I look forward to reading about the other Cargill family members.

This is book one in The Cargill Brother’s Series and it is Sawyer and Willow’s Story and what a great start to a new series by one of my favourite authors Charlotte Byrd and her husband Ronan Byrd. Sawyer is CEO of the summerset Harbor yacht club which is owned by his family and doesn’t do commitment or relationships and that is just how he likes it. Willow and her friend Sarah have their own PR Company and have worked hard to make it a success so Willow doesn’t have time for relationships as her work consumes her. When Sawyer is in a conversation with his best friend Milo where he is annoyed and pulling apart the locals someone records him and it goes viral on the internet Sawyer realised that he will need a PR Specialist to fix the problem and also help save the family business not knowing that things are going to get a whole lot worse. When Willow gets an email from Sawyer Cargill it brings up all sorts of emotions from her time at school when he bullied and made her life unbearable and now she sees this as the time she can take her revenge for everything that he put her through because she is a lot stronger and doesn’t take bull from anyone and she is determined to take him down a peg or two. The more time that Willow and Sawyer spend together the stronger there chemistry and feelings grow but can they let go of there past if they decide that they want a future together. There are many ups and downs along the way and I love how strong willed Willow is and doesn’t let Sawyer get the best of her but will love win in the end. I couldn’t put this book down and read it in one sitting as it was a real page turner and totally addictive and I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing series.

How I love the PR trope books. Willow co-owns her own PR firm and when her old high school bully reaches out for help with his recent crisis, she decides that’ll be the best time to get revenge for the way he treated her when they were in school. Sawyer doesn’t remember Willow at all which doesn’t help matters at all, and those chapters as they negotiated and argued we’re easily my favorite. I was shocked at how quickly I read them.

This book is a slow burn but man the the wait is worth it. I loved how they handled their relationship towards the end. Sawyer really showed that he’s changed and Willow was willing to give him a chance, but they still have a lot of things to figure out to make the relationship work.

Overall, I highly enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one!

ARC review - I received an advanced copy of Hate Mate and I’m so grateful I did. This was a great fast paced read!

I love that Willow (FMC) held her ground and was just all around a boss as B***h, because quite frankly Sawyer needed and ass whooping and needed have a wake up call!

This is book 1 of what I believe is a 4 book series and I am very intrigued and excited for book 2 which follows the story of Sawyers brother, Brooks.

When Sawyer messes up, he needs to find someone to fix his life quickly. And lo and behold, here comes Willow, the girl he used to bully when they were younger. Now Willow has control over Sawyer's life, so how will she take revenge?
I enjoyed the banter between Willow and Sawyer, their back and forth and trying to take the rein.
With time, Willow realizes that Sawyer is not the person she thought he was. She also realizes that she might have misjudged him. She does have a successful career, but Sawyer's treatment of her has stuck. Sawyer tries to find a way to show he has changed and face the consequences of his mistakes. I really enjoyed their chemistry and as the author is new to me, I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
