Sometimes even Angels must learn to fly…

Six Pack Ranch, Book 4

Allison Parker needs a convincing excuse to come home to Rocky Mountain House. A hopelessly romantic reason that won’t let her mother suspect the truth—that Allison has discovered Mom is keeping a terrible secret from the family.

Gabe Coleman is struggling with two of the roughest parts of ranching: dealing with his bull-headed mule of a father, and making enough to pay the bills. When his old friend Allison offers to help him develop his ideas for organic ranching—in trade for pretending to be her fiancé—it sounds like the perfect set-up.

Yet the deception leads them in an unexpected direction, where their shared daily hells are erased by nights of heavenly distraction. It’s not supposed to be real, but once the gates are opened, there’s no denying they’ve found in each other a little bit of Paradise.

To break free of the past and face the future, though, will take more than temporary pleasures. It’ll take putting their hearts on the line.

3.5 This was surprisingly good!

Ok, I admit, when I started reading this I didn't really expect anything past a 2.5, maybe 3 star read. A typical romance, boring and meh but relaxing.
Maybe that's why this book got a 3.5 from me, 'cause I had low expectations.
Still, it was a pretty good read, I didn't even skim!

I dunno why I liked it so much... The writing was pretty good and the characters were interesting, even the plot was a bit more fun than I expected it to be.
Ok, ok, I do know why I liked it... During the whole book, all the guys looked something like this in my head:

So yeah, when you have characters looking like that... well, what's not to like!

2 ½ stars. Nice characters doing nice things. But I wasn’t emotionally anything. It was easy to put down.

Even the sex scenes didn’t grab me. I found myself skimming them.

The story lines include: Gabe and Allison pretend to be engaged. Gabe is a good guy helping others. His main problem is trying to make the family farm more profitable, but his abusive and cruel dad causes problems. Allison is a neat woman and smart. Her mother is dying of cancer. Gabe and Allison spend quality time with her mother.

One part intrigued me. Travis attended fight clubs. I liked the look in his eyes before fighting, the pummeling he gave and took, and his bringing in a beat-up buddy who was attacked by a gang outside the fight club. I wanted more about Travis and that world. I believe his story may be in a sequel.

I’m reminded of Sol Stein’s advice to writers. One of his ten commandments is: “Your characters should steal, kill, dishonor their parents, bear false witness, and covet their neighbor’s house, wife, man servant, maid servant, and ox. For readers crave such actions and yawn when your characters are meek, innocent, forgiving, and peaceable.” This book is mostly about peaceable etc. characters, except for a tiny part of the story involving Travis.

DATA:
Narrative mode: 3rd person. Kindle count story length: 4,246 (450 KB) 228 pages. Swearing language: strong including religious swear words, but not often used. Sexual language: strong. I took a chance on this one as it is my first western romance. The setting is Alberta, Canada & Allison has just moved back home, leaving her job & Red Deer behind. A reliable source has informed her that her mother is very ill, still working at the family owned restaurant but the bad news is still being kept from Allison & her family. So as not to raise questions by her perceptive mother, Allison approaches old friend Gabe with a proposal. She will offer him free advice to help his family farm flourish with new organic procedures & he in turn will agree to be her fake fiance. Her mother must not suspect the real reason she has come home.
This, for the most part was an angst-free sweet story about wholesome, kind & sometimes crazy families. Gabe was adorable & the kind of guy that worked hard but would also set everything else aside to help others. Allison, very family orientated, loved her family & spent any free time she had visiting her mother. As a fake fiance, she & Gabe lived in his cabin, grew closer & if you love hot sex scenes with a couple that aren't yet really a couple, then look no further. There were some sad moments & also hostile arguments between Gabe & his father (the old man was quite the ass) but overall I did enjoy this story. A stand-alone with a HEA.

Wow, it’s hard to believe we are already to book four in Vivian Arend’s Six Pack Ranch series. I have loved each one so far mainly because the stories have all been so different and Rocky Mountain Angel proves that a really great series writer can take an often used plot and turn it into gold.

Gabe Coleman has been called a lot of things in his life; saint, good friend, angel, protector and while he may be all of those things, he’s every bit as sexy, steamy, and raunchy as his Coleman cousins. He hates all the “good” names people call him because he feels he doesn’t deserve them and lord knows his verbally abusive father doesn’t see him that way. Gabe is struggling both with an event that changed him forever and figuring out a way to keep the “Angel” Coleman’s ranch from going under. He has some big ideas but he also has to deal with his father who thinks so little of him he won’t even hear him out.

Allison Parker is a woman on a mission. She’s found out from a friend that her mother is dying and she decides to return to Rocky Mountain House to be with her until the end. Problem is she needs a cover story good enough that her Mom won’t see through it. What she comes up with will no doubt convince her Mom but first she must convince Gabe it will work. She knows just what to offer to get him to agree but worries that she’s taking advantage of him.

When Allison asks Gabe to be her pretend fiancée he feels she’s not thinking straight. But, when she lays it all out for him and then offers to help him with the organic farming that he’s been researching, he can’t refuse. They try to keep thinks platonic but they soon find themselves using each other to ease the stress of their everyday lives.

From early on in this series I’ve loved Gabe’s character, he’s always appeared to be such a nice, stand up guy and he is but he is so much more. He really proves how far he’ll go out on a limb for someone he cares about when he helps Allison and her family through a very tough time. Not only that, he continues to help out his cousins in various ways including Travis, who I will admit intrigues me above all the other Coleman men. Despite the way his father treats him, he works the ranch and tries to find new ways to make ends meet. He adores his mother and his younger brother and will do anything for them. How can you not love this man?

What Allison asks of Gabe seems very selfish but it soon becomes evident that Gabe needs her as much as she needs him. She is a great sounding board for him and she helps him begin to realize his dream for the ranch. In addition she defends him wholeheartedly when his cousins and his father say some pretty nasty things about him. I love that when she is confronted about something he’s done, she doesn’t let it sway her perception of Gabe. She waits to hear what he has to say and then she gets mad, not because of what he did because he didn’t share what was going on in his life.

These two have major chemistry and their love scenes are very hot. However, I really appreciate how much time these two spend learning about each other. While they were acquaintances before they started their ruse, they really didn’t know each other. They share some important history which gives us (the readers) some insight into both of these complex characters.

Rocky Mountain Angel is a superb addition to the Six Pack Ranch series and once again proves that Vivian Arend is an outstanding author. I’m always amazed when an author can write a very sexy romance novel and it includes so many things people deal with in everyday lives; Cancer, death, abuse, and demons from the past. While there are some serious topics in this book, it doesn’t take away from a very gratifying love story between two people who no doubt love each other completely. I am blown away by Vivian’s writing and I know this book will be one I’ll revisit again and again. Oh, and Viv I am so waiting for Travis’ book, next to Gabe he’s interested me since Rocky Mountain Heat and this one just made me crave his story even more!

Vivian Arend Rocky Mountain House bk 04 Rocky Mountain Angel

I loved this so much that I listened to it twice!

I'm SO happy that we didn't have to make it through the Six Pack Colemans before one of the cousins stepped up to the plate. Gabriel "Gabe" Coleman, an "Angel Coleman," and Allison Parker are exactly what I expected and needed for Gabe. The chemistry between them shone in a quick scene in an earlier book, and this took it all. The. Way. Home! 🔥☄️🔥

I love where their hearts are when they embark on their fake relationship. I love even more when the heat explodes and things move to that gray area between fake and forever. Even icy cold water can't cool them down.

Seeing her lush figure every night and every damn morning—screw being stereotypical, but he was a fucking male, and fucking was on his mind.
-- Gabe Coleman

There's plenty of heartbreak, love, friendship, and more, and I'm here for all of it! Such a good addition to the series.

I read along while listening to a copy of the audio book. The narrator is Tatiana Sokolov. I enjoy listening to her.

This is my first Six Pack Ranch book, and I really liked it. Worked really well as a stand alone.

Pretend engagement stories are not always my favorite, but this one worked..I think because there isn't major conflict or drama surrounding the pretend engagement. Gabe and Allison fall for each other pretty quick, without much conflict...but I liked how it is done. They are both such warm, fun characters. And the sex. Dear lord the sex - it's dirty and gooooooood.

I def rec.

This has some of my favorite sex scenes ever in a book. They're hot and sensual and a few were long but never boring. This is an emotional read. Also, there's a character that I personally wanted taken out. I've never had that kind of reaction to someone. I was very invested in this book and didn't want to put it down.

Not really sure what to say about this book. It's pretty much on par with the others in the sereis - which is ok, but not spectacular. Gabe is probably my favourite male character from the series so far, as he was just really loveable and caring. This is a really sad storyline, but there are also plenty of fun, sexy scenes inserted throughout, so it balances out the unhappy side to the story. As usual, I liked the lack of angst concerning the mains' relationship as they were both pretty upfront and honest about their feelings from the start. On the downside, the main characters from the previous books did not make an appearance in this instalment, which I was disappointed by, as it would have been nice to see how their relationships had evolved further.

Classic fake relationship that turns into exactly what neither person expected it to, deep and meaningful real love and caring for one another.

Gabe Coleman is a dream Canadian Cowboy. Good looking on the outside and inside a man to stand by you through thick and thin, a man worth keeping through the good times and the bad, a man who loves as hard as he can and deeper than even he knew he was capable of.

Allison Parker is the girl that Gabe had a crush on in High School. Now back to her roots so she can take care of unexpected family business before it is too late, Allison begs Gabe for a really sticky favor.

Never one to turn down a friend in need, especially a beautiful woman who has the ability to turn him inside out as soon as he looks at her, Gabe agrees and the rest is pretty much exactly what I expected and even better than I hoped.

The book may be the 4th in this series but it truly is a stand-alone with its own beginning, middle and ending without a cliffhanger.

The storytelling really brings you into their lives.

It’s almost like Allison was subconsciously drawn to Gabe for help. Having been acquaintances years earlier their fake fiancé story is almost a second chance too. Anyway, I digress, this book was touching but also a sweet falling in love story with too strong, intelligent people who also have baggage. Tearful at times I still couldn’t put it down.

This book we are with Gabe & Allison (the angel boy Coleman). This relationship starts out as a plan to make Allison's mom believe Allison didn't come home to take care of her for her illness. Gabe and Allison find out they are really made for each other.

I'm a huge fan of this series. There is just something about this family that I love, and I love to revisit the Coleman family.

From the first moment Gabe showed up on the page in the first book in Rocky Mountain Heat I was intrigued by him. There was just something about him that left you wondering who the real Gabe was. In each of the following books we got to see more and more of Gabe.

The term good ole boy comes to mind when I think Gabe. He's the kind of guy who will do anything for his family, and not expect anything in return. He does it because he understands the importance of family.

Alison is the perfect match for Gabe. She is someone who puts family first and drops everything to be there for her mom. When she enlists the help of Gabe to help her family without them knowing it she got the perfect partner.

I'm going to admit it, there is absolutely NOTHING in this book I didn't like. From Gabe and Allison's relationship to what happens in Gabe's family, yes it has to do with Travis, oh and something with the twins.

This book has everything I look for in a great romance, characters I like and want to be together, a conflict which makes them grow together as a couple, scenes where we get to see who the hero really is, and a family that makes them want to pull their hair out and yet they still love them.

I will say that there are a couple of scenes with Gabe where my heart broke for him because he feels so much.

Gabe lives up to his name - he is an angel! Allison needs his help and he gives it to her without question. This is a theme in Gabe's life in his dealing with everyone. Allison sees this and wants to speak out but doesn't feel it is her place in their fake relationship. Neither can deny their attraction to each other so they add a sexual relationship to their story but Allison still holds out on the emotional attachment. Gabe falls and lets Allison know but she still holds back admitting her feelings for him even though he can see them, she won't vocalize them. There are some deeply emotional scenes along with their heated interactions. After all the emotional turmoil has happened and it is time to move forward, Gabe confronts Allison to get her to admit her love for him - just perfect!

This was the story of Gabe Coleman and Allison. Allison finds out her mom is dying. She hasn't been home for a few years and she knows her mom won't accept any help from her if she knows she is sick. She goes to Gabe with a plan to become his fiance so her mom will think that is why she came home. Gabe decides to help her out, but it comes with complications when he finds they are really attracted to each other. this is a good read

Trying to help a friend and finding love.

Love stories that are lets pretend, always ends up being real instead. Gabe Coleman and Allison Parker are a perfect match to get this family farm to look forward to a bright future. Love that they start out as friends and become so much more to one another with out even realizing it at first. Very well written and brings you so far into the story you can feel like you are there.

Loved it looking forward to my next visit.

A great addition to the series. I think every book just keeps getting better and better. I enjoyed the characters, but they weren't my favorite in the whole series(probably the only thing keeping it from beingn 5 stars). They were likeable and well developed, just not my favorite. I can't wait for more of this series! Damn there are a lot of sexy cowboys whose stories aren't told yet!

Rocky Mountain Angel is book 4 in the Six Pack Ranch series and follows Gabe, of the Angel Coleman clan, and Allison.

Gabe is the oldest son of the Angel Coleman boys. He has a brother, Rafe, who is finishing high school and uses any excuse to come visit him and spend time with him in order to get away from his father. Sadly, years ago an accident occurred that caused their father to resent Gabe and become indifferent and abusive.

Allison is the oldest child of her mother. When she learns through a friend that her mom is sick, she returns to Rocky to help take care of her, without letting her know that is what she is doing.

When Rafe catches someone riding their horse wildly with a truck following behind them, he goes after the horse and rider to prevent a catastrophic accident. When he finally settles the horse and realizes it is Allison, he takes her back to his home to find out what happened.

In telling the story of how the truck with teens spooked her horse and she took off running, she also mentions the issue with her mother. She has come up with a reason for her to come back to Rocky and she needs Gabe's help to sell it. She proposes that they say she came back to Rocky because she and Gabe are engaged. (Insert jaw hitting floor sounds).

Needless to say, Gabe is shocked, but agrees to go along with it, as friends. But they will need to make a change to her plan to make it seem real. She will need to move in to his home. Luckily, he has a guest bedroom for her to stay in.

When it comes time to tell the families, Gabe arranges to meet with his mom, Dana, and tell her. He does not want his dad anywhere near Allison. Dana is ecstatic to welcome Allison to the family, which leads both Gabe and Allison to have guilt over perpetrating this lie.

So when it comes time to tell her family, Allison chooses to tell her family alone. Her mom is thrilled, but her brother is not. He has heard rumors about the money problems the Angel Coleman clan is having and he thinks Gabe is trying to get money from her and the family business. If only he knew this was all her idea. Neither her brother nor her sister know about their mom's illness. Her mom does not want them to know. She does not want to worry them or be questioned about her decision.

Ultimately, Allison agrees to help Gabe turn their land in to healthy, organic producing land. Ben, his father, does not want to discuss it with him, so Gabe just moves forward with his plans. Due to a bet made with his father on Canada Day, Gabe is now responsible for the balloon payment due at the end of summer. How will Gabe manage to make this happen?

When the balloon payment comes due, Gabe and two of his uncles, make a land trade deal. Ben is livid and thinks Gabe took money from Allison's mom in order to make the payment. But when the truth comes out, not only did it serve to make the payment, but it will also fast track Gabe's plans.

Meanwhile, Allison watches her mom deteriorate. Gabe arranges for them to get married at her mom's bedside in the hospital. It is not meant to be real, but we all know the old adage about good intentions. When Allison steps out to get a wedding dress and prepare for the ceremony, Gabe receives an envelope from her mom. He agrees to hold the money in trust that she is leaving for Allison. She has no idea of this money, but his father sure found out about it.

So much hatred and resentment in this branch of the Coleman family. It makes me sad to see such a close knit family have one small group like this. Even Uncle Mike tells Ben to cool off. Everyone knows Ben is the problem, but no one seems to be able to do anything about it. Sadly, this wound will only continue to fester. I do not wish ill on anyone, but man he needs to take some chill pills. He is disrespectful to Dana and both of his children.

The confrontation between Gabe and Ben about what happened years ago was epic. I was so glad to see Gabe stand up for himself and call his dad out on his own contribution to what happened.

I love that Gabe has the support of Uncle Mike and his uncle from the Whiskey Creek clan. He will need it going forward in order to implement all of the plans he has for their land. I wish him the best of luck, but know he can do it.

Tatiana Sokolov narrates another Rocky Mountain book. So many emotions go in to this story. She manages to handle the good times and the bad and everything in between.

Another captivating story within this series.
But with Gabe and Allison's fake relationship romance,I found it very emotional as the reason why they pretend to be in a relationship is heartbreaking for Allison.
Allison needed a good reason to come back to town without her Mother being suspicious and what better reason was there than LOVE.
So she approaches a guy she has known since High School Gabe Coleman to be her fake boyfriend/fiance and in exchange she will help him turn his ranch into an organic producing ranch.
It would benefit them both.
Gabe Coleman had only come back to his families ranch because of his Mother and his younger brother,to basically be a buffer with his controlling angry father.
But the ranch wasn't making money and they needed to modernise and he had alot of ideas but his father refused to listen to Gabe.
When Allison approaches him with her wild idea he agrees because if she could help with the ranch it could change there fortunes...Little did Gabe know that this agreement would change more than the ranch but his life too.
I loved Gabe he is not one of the brothers he is a cousin as Vivian is branching out to tell the stories from the extended family.
Gabe has alot to deal with and has so many burdens on his shoulders I felt so bad with the way he was treated by his father.
He is the opposite of his dad and Allison often refers to Gabe as Angel boy, because he is always willing to help people and rescue anyone who needs it.
He oozes sex appeal,is hard working ,generous ,caring and kind...he can also be protective and demanding,he is perfect for Allison.
Allison is like full of life but also has her own burdens and her family is going through an emotional time and needs Gabe for support and to make her mother realise that he was her fiance, because this would make her mother happy.
The thing is fake starts to feel real and they can't stop the chemistry and attraction between them so what happens when the ruse is over?...what if they can't let eachother go?
This story is an adorable one but also sad in some places,I loved how Gabe and Allison were honest with eachother,so there was no misunderstandings on their feelings.
Gabe was more open than Allison though and it took her a bit of time to admit her feelings.
They are a hot couple thats for sure and can't get enough of one another.
This book was captivating and has a bit of mystery to it when Travis brings a stranger into the mix..and I am intrigued by who exactly Travis is.! and the secrets he is keeping...
I thoroughly enjoyed this book just as much as the other books,it is a great edition to this series.
I Loved it.
fantastic.

so, apparently, the whole "Six Pack Ranch" series is not limited to the Six Pack Colemans, which is what the first three books of the series was centered around

we'd seen glimpses of Gabe

anyway, so, Gabe, we get to learn that his branch of the Coleman clan isn't all roses

I thought the scenario was a little far-fetched and I agreed with Gabe that there were serious complications given the tight-knit community and the huge family

can't wait to get to Travis's book - what is going on there???

I already picked up the next book in the series about Joel - a little bit of the twin turmoil was hinted in this book, so, I'm interested to see what happens there

this is another one where I was really interested in the plot and ended up skipping most of the sex scenes - I know! for once! ;)
there was plenty of actual plot to go with those sexy times, so no harm there!

overall, I've liked this series, nothing amazingly awesome about it, but they're quick reads, with a lot of interesting things going on in each book. so, I'll continue to read them until they get repetitive or boring or something less than fun :)
