Her thoughts told her that she needed to protect Britain, a friend of hers, but that didn’t make any sense – Britain didn’t need to be protected from anyone, he was strong, young, and absurdly wealthy. Charlie also knew that even though her friend Bianca called Charlie her best friend, she didn’t trust her …she was almost sure she despised her, but she couldn’t figure out why, or understand how random thoughts were telling her that she adored both Britain and Bianca – that they were her saviors – that they brought silence to the unstoppable whispers, but the silence scared Charlie. In her mind anyone or anything that could bring silence to something that dark could not be good.

Charlie wanted to stay in NY, figure out what she was missing, why, and who was behind it all, but her mother had other plans. Against her will, Charlie was sent to Salem to live with her sister, within that small town Charlie found her memories and so much more.

Her life contains gaps, her hopes, her dreams, who she was is missing, but why? Who did this to her? Will Charlie take back her life, will she find those missing memories? If she does, will she like who she was meant to be?

SEE by Jamie Magee is the story of a girl determined to discover who she is and what she lost. It is told with almost a shroud-like covering over each page as we are left as clueless and unsettled as Charlie and those around her. Who can be trusted, who is truly a friend and who is out to destroy her? What secrets lurk in the shadows and why is music so important?

This edgy tale is well-written, the characters each carry a huge part of this tale and the mystery is so well-hidden that, we cannot see more than Charlie, herself, we just KNOW something is going to happen and trust me, it does and Charlie will never be that lost little girl again!

Intriguing reading that rides on the edge of darkness!

This book was an addictive and alluring book with a flowing melodic undertone that hums as you read...

The book starts dark, as a reader you feel Charlie. You’re as confused and bewildered as she is ... As you read, it all starts to connect and as I neared the end it's started to clear up to me just like it did for Charlie.

I found the characters easy to relate to, they were all unique and easy to fall in love with as well as cheer for them. Each character was an individual that brought something extra and important to the story with their gift.

Jamie is an amazing and gifted writer. I felt all the emotion in the perfect places at the perfect time with the perfect pitch. I felt the love, anguish, darkness, light, sorrow, beauty that I was meant to as the reader.

I love the use of music the author infused in the book. I love how it feels like a living breathing thing that helps to guide the characters. I wish I could see the music and hear what they (the characters) wrote...but I guess that's the magic of a book...the reader gets to find their own song.

My personal favorite was the outstanding message of hope and light through darkness.

I personally can't wait for book 2, I’m curious to see what lies ahead and how this cast of characters is going to conquer the darkness…

As most of you know Jamie's first series, The Insight series is my 2nd favorite YA series but now after reading SEE and don't know which one is my favorite.

SEE is somewhat on the same basis as Insight. You have true love or soul mates, the main characters wanting to help "people", and totally hot guys! And guess what? There are twins in SEE! But, that is where the similarities end. SEE, to me, is darker and I love that!

This book will completely hook you. Before you know it you will be 100 to 200 pages into the book and wonder where the time went. Within the first two pages it had me captured and I didn't want to put it down. For me it's hard to find a book like that so I was thrilled when this one did.

Like I said SEE is dark but it's also intriguing, thrilling, captivating, and suspenseful. And for all you music lovers...music is a HUGE thing in this book. That's a plus in my book.

If you have read the Insight series then you will love SEE. If you haven't read the Insight series that's okay you will still love this book!

First Thought: Edge of my seat the WHOLE time!

Plunging into SEE I already had high hopes for it because of Jamie's previously published, Insight Series. There’s just something about the way that she writes that calls to my soul. It’s vivid, emotional and takes my breath away.

Forgetting who you are and everything you've know sucks. Initially I felt SO bad for Charlie, but then I kind of started to appreciate her memory loss. As she moves back home and starts remembering everything, it's like you're watching her fall in love for the first time. Though there's underlying issues, the relationship that she creates with Draven is awesome!

Trying to find her "way back" has her whole life turned upside down. With temptation always calling....literally....it almost seems like she'll never return to the person she once was.

This is where I really started to get into it, Charlie has moved away from all the evil in her life, but yet it's right there at every turn. She seems so confused at times that you wonder which side of the line she's going to land on. Even though everything her heart calls to her feels right, it seems that the Darkness could have something a little interesting to offer her.

Trying to sum this up without babbling on and on and on seems difficult. I want to gush and rant, and gush and rant! Though keep in mind that I mean rant in a completely positive way. Charlie is possibly one of my favorite female leads of all time. It's not because she's quick and witty, it's because you can see how true & pure her heart is. She wants nothing more then for the ones that she loves to be safe. It's no wonder that her and Draven are meant for each other....and have a mentioned how yumm-tastic Draven is??!! This man has more patience then I could EVER find. Knowing that the person you love can't remember you or recall your last conversation, that to me would be soul-crushing. But Draven keeps his faith in Charlie and knows that what they have can't be tainted by magic....can it??

Overall this book was fab! Number 2 should be equally amazing, but only time will tell :)

Alright first few things I need to say before I start this review, a) This was my first Jamie Magee book, I never read the Insight Series, I have the first one just never read it, i don't know if that effects ANYTHING at all, from one person's review i read i think its in the same world but totally different characters, now if that is true i do not know. b) I skimmed the last 25% of the book...hehe i will say why later. But with all that said this wasn't for me, thats not to say that its not for you, maybe if i had read the insight series first i wouldn't have been so lost, but i don't know that for sure.

So I pick a song or two to describe the tone/whatever in the book. This is my choice, i know that at the end of this book there is a playlist, i didn't look at the playlist to be honest, i saw Godsmack and that was it. But the song i am choosing is a bit different from what i normally pick, this book talks a lot about music, and one of the MCs favorite types of music is rock instrumental without lyrics, well, well, well i do have some of those. And the two i would pick to listen to, to get a "tone"/ "vibe" would be "Noir" by Lights at Sea (its an indie band from my home state, saw them in concert it was pretty sweet), and "Walk With Happiness" by The Best Pessimistic

Alright so i am not going to do first thoughts, i am just going jump into this.

Plot: Alright here is the thing, i loved the concept of the story, that the girl lost some memories, and all that. UNFORTUNATELY i don't think that it was handled in the best way. On top of the fact that this was done in first person as it was, so we were as clueless as she was. I just sent more than half the book screaming at the other characters. The plot was suffering because no one would help us along in the story until about half way through. Then it all comes out in a rush and i felt totally like a fish out of water, if it wasn't a new type of paranormal being, or whatever you want to call it, then i think i could have been okay with that, but it wasn't at least for me it wasn't again this goes back to the Insight thing, i don't know if they are in the same "world" but if they were it would make a little more sense maybe? i don't know for sure, but for those who haven't and it is in the same world, i was totally overwhelmed and lost, and by the time we really did start to explore what they were i had already pretty much threw in the white towel and was done with the book. I think at first it started off really strong, i was into the whole mystery, what the hell is going on vibe but then it just kept going on and on like that and i was getting frustrated and mad. And it has a lot to do with characters as well, so i am going to move onto them.

Characters:

Charlie: She is the MC and i liked her. She was the type of character that keeps to herself but she is a little spit-fire well until she meets her old friends that she can't really remember, its only when she is dealing with the B twins as i started to refer to them as, Bianca and Britain (no they are not related but they are always together, and they are not dating just friends apparently) that she is that spit-fire of a girl. I can see that she is trying to protect her old friends and family near the end when i started to skim. But i had a lot of problems with her as well, for one when she moves back everyone mostly though Draven, keeps saying that he wants "his Charlie back", well he says "I want my Charlie" and she never once gets insulted by this? I think that you would, i know that i would. i would be pissed as hell. Because she is still, her but she can't remember things from the past, wish for her memories back but the way he makes it sound, the way they all make it sound is like she is a completely different person (which yes i suppose she is some but still its just wrong) i don't know how to explain this very well but i just do not like that. And she keeps a lot of things to herself which i understand, and then when she does ask for help, NO ONE EVER HELPS HER. ever. they are like, no you need to find your memories on your own...um how the hell is she suppose to do that? i don't understand okay...moving on

Draven: He isn't shy. i hate that he was referred to as shy all the time, he kept to himself there is a difference. Anyways i don't know if i really cared for him all that much. He kept himself at a distance even from Charlie, and he is the one that kept saying she needed to find her memories on her own, well how is she suppose to when she no one coaxes anything out of her, to help her. you can't pull out a memory without some sort of stimuli...oh god i am going all psychology-ish .... i am annoyed...wow alright letting that go. i don't know really honestly he would say some pretty things but its in the actions that you do that you really show your love and his actions were kind of shitty. again it might have changed dramatically in the parts that i skimmed over but in the first 3/4s of the book that is how he was. he was hard to know, hard to like.

Other side characters were just as bad, NO ONE helped her because Draven decided that she needed to do it on her own. i just don't understand that. i really don't.

Draven and Charlie's relationship: well i read in other reviews that it was this beautiful love story, and they were super cute together, but i really didn't see it. To me - YES TO ME, notice the "M" and the "e", not you, or anyone else so try not to take my word to heavily - they were very distant with each other, they had moments again where Draven would speak and he did same some very poetic, beautiful things but again there really wasn't anything there for me. they didn't seem to have that passion, again maybe it was at the parts that i started to skim that this all emerged but in the parts that i did read word for word, there wasn't anything for me there. it felt like surface love, which in my book is saying you love each other but there are no actions towards it.

i don't know i shrug my shoulders at you. this wasn't for me, i was really liked it at the beginning i was excited, and i haven't come across a lot of paranormal/fantasy, books that revolve around music which i was really interested in before, because i don't read a whole lot of contemp fiction, but it didn't work out for me. Is that to say it won't work out for you? I don't know. I think that if you have read Jamie Magee's stuff before, i would say yes give it a try, if you are still interested but haven't, maybe look around on other reviews see if anyone says more info about the insight series, and if these two are related by being in the same "World" then maybe check out that one first.

This is my first Jamie Magee book. I’d heard the author’s Insight series was really good, so going into See I really didn’t know what to expect, but I had above average expectations. I won’t really say too much plot wise since revealing anything about what’s going on would totally spoil the book. But I’ll try my best to be “insightful”.

What I liked

The concept and plot were just amazing. Like I said, I can’t tell you anything about what it is, but what a very cool concept and one that I haven’t ever really come across in the books I read. I absolutely thought incorporating music into the plot was a banging idea, as I believe that universally, music is the one thing that we all understand. Don’t you agree? So well done in that aspect.

What I didn’t like

I spent the entire first half of the book quite frustrated. Some readers might call what I went through being kept in suspense. I call it being kept in confusion and I didn’t like it. For me, being kept in suspense is feeding me bits and pieces to keep me on track but never really telling me exactly what’s going on. In See, we are told virtually nothing for until midway in, and I found that very hard to push past since I felt doubly confused since the main character was just as lost as me.

Second, I felt the characters needed a bit more developing. I didn’t really feel a connection to them as I read. I liked them well enough, especially Charlie, our main character, and Madison, but I felt that Draven, as a main character, needed a little bit more spice added to his character. I know, I know, Draven was written this way for a reason, but I don’t think it would have hurt the story to spice up his personality a bit. Charlie was kind of spunky and smart-mouthed, but I always love heroines like that. Madison was just fun, and Aden was cute. I don’t know what to think about the mysterious Britain, even though Bianca was always on my “BEWARE” list.

Overall, a nice read that readers who don’t mind reading and being told absolutely nothing about what’s going on will probably really enjoy. If you can get past the dark abyss we are forced to fall through for half of the book, then your reward shall be great. This book is well written, with vivid descriptions of what our characters are going through (once it’s revealed) as Charlie tries to see into a past she thought she’d lost forever.

Brilliant. Seriously, this book was brilliant. I was sucked in from the first page and putting it down was almost painful. I had read the synopsis months before I read the book, so I basically read it blind. I loved that I had no idea what Charlie was up against as she worked at unweaving the mystery that has become her life. WOW! I did not see most of it coming and and am so excited that I already have book two, Witness,up on my kindle. I am actually guessing this will be way shorter than the book deserves because I have to go read book two.

In a time where so much of the YA para out there is about fallen angels, vampires, and weres, it was so wonderful to see something completely new. While it technically is YA, the story is so unique and well developed I loved it as an adult. It is wonderful when an author can pull off writing an amazing and clean novel that is so intriguing and fun that it spans the age barrier. I am so excited to see where this adventure is going to lead the four friends and their families.

I don't know what happened here, to be completely honest. The story itself wasn't that bad really, I've seen waaaaaay worse. The problem, for me, was mainly in the first half of the book. For some reason I felt like the writing was detached, like it was just recounting of facts by someone who didn't really care. It got to the point where we got to read how Charlie turned off her phone by using sleep button, or answered the call by sliding her finger on the screen. And it repeated over and over again. I mean, seriously? Did we really need to read that? We all know how the phone works, thankyouverymuch! By the second half I either got used to it to the point that I didn't notice it anymore, or it got better, I honestly can't tell. And this "friendship" with Bianca, don't even get me started on that. That was just pathetic.

See follows Charlie as she tries to piece together her memory and find out what all the strange stuff is that is happening around her. To say that I liked this book would be an understatement. I LOVED it! I am ashamed to say that this is the first book by Jamie that I have read but I can safely say that it won't be the last.



We are taken on a journey of self-discovery aided by the power of music. The reader is just as confused and frustrated as Charlie in what happened the night her memories were taken. She feels scared and powerless and must find a way to gain back her memories and discover why she can see the shadows and hear the whispers that call out to her. This particular aspect of the story is what intrigued me about the book. I wanted to know just as much as Charlie what the shadows wanted. I was kept guessing throughout what they were and when I found out I was surprised I didn't figure it out before hand. You are kept in suspense all through the book. Nothing was given away too early which made me want to keep reading.

This book is as dark as it is uplifting. On one side you have Britain and Bianca, two characters which you are wary of from the beginning, not knowing whether they wanted to help or hurt Charlie. From the get go I knew Bianca was one to watch out for and I still have my doubts about Britain. On the other side however you have Charlie's real friends, Madison, Aden and Draven. I loved these characters. They really were the friends that Charlie needed to help her through all the mess and help her regain her memory. I especially loved the twins, Aden and Draven.
The main reason I loved this book was for the music aspect of it. I never truly realized the power of music until I read this book. It was a central character all of its own. I was moved to my core and brought to tears so many times. I could just imagine what the playlist for this book would be like. I think if I heard it I would be a blubbering mess!

This book is breathtaking, heartbreaking, uplifting and addictive with a very powerful message at its core. It is one book that needs to be on everyone's shelf.

What a chaotic adventure! This is the type of book where you have no clue whatsoever what's going on - because the main character doesn't know. And as Charlie regains the pieces she had lost, and with them her old self, you uncover just how important your memories and experiences are for your personality. Every imperssion shapes you, every achivement, every mistake. So while Charlie finds her way back to being herself, she also grows even stronger on these harsh events at the same time. All of this was just so incredibly bittersweet, especially her broken love, but actually all of her relationships, like with family and friends too, because there are so many other people suffering if you're not being yourself. I'm sure it felt to them a little like Charlie'd died, especially since she lost her amazing and important gift, now unable to help herself and countless others.

Aprospos gift! The music part was awesome. I don't know that many books that have music as an essential part in it, so I'm giving major extra points there. And although there was a playlist attached, I'd still want to hear Draven and Aden play! This as a movie... omg, it'd be so awesome! Granted, there wasn't this much of actul action going on, mostly confusion and maybe it was a little scary in some moments, but the overall tension built until the last pages and it was killing enough. And seriously, I'd want to know how they envision the Seeing for screens. I didn't find it that hard to imagine, it wasn't like something totally off scale, but... it just had this feeling to it that makes it really special, even more so in combination with the music. I think it could be overwhelmingly heart-wrenching if you could really hear and see it, not just read about it.

While you stay with Charlie and Draven throughout the book, you also get glimpses into some of the other characters, and there is enough left to be (hopefully) uncovered in following installments. I'd love to get to know Madison and Aden better, and I think chances aren't half bad that they could hook up, too. (That'd be very funny to happen, I just know it!) Plus, I am very excited to know more about this other dimension or what excatly it might be, where they intend to go with Austin. And that guy Madison saw in her dream? A lot of still shapeless plotlines, and I want to know what they'll look like in the end!

I was fortunate to have pre read this book for Jamie.
This is a must read for all Insight fans Jamie's first series ..and if you haven't read them yet ..why the hell not?

I have to admit that when I started reading this I didn't know what it was about and the plot didn't really come to light until I was over halfway through, so this added to the mystery of the book. Charlie gets drugged by her "friends", Bianca and Britain, and when she wakes up, important memories are missing.

After her graduation, her mom moves her home to Salem to live with her sister, where she starts to put her memory back together, with the help of her real friends Madison, Aden and especially Draven. She remembers how to deal with the shadows, how important Draven was in her life, and what exactly Bianca and Britain are.

This book was well written and the dialogue was quite enjoyable. The characters were well defined and likeable, I just didn't feel any real connection to them. It has an interesting story line, but no action until the end. Most of the book is about Charlie learning who she was before she lost the memories that made her who she was.

I was more interested in this book for the first two thirds or so but found my interest waning towards the end. I think I thought the big reveal would be something more exciting but I wasn't that impressed. I'm finding myself a little hesitant to pick up the next in the series.

From the moment this book started I was hooked. That doesn't happen often and I loved it. Immediately there is talk of hearing things, and losing memories, and I had to know what happened to the main character Charlie. I was immersed in her confusion and desire to know what happened to make her forget parts of her life. When she goes back to her childhood home to live with her sister, she becomes involved with a group of friends, who she has known forever, but for some feels like she just met, and they help her to piece together her memories and help her realize a strength and a gift that she didn't remember having.

This book was an absolute-keep you on the edge of your seat-can't put the book down-must read every page and ignore sleep-page turner that had me captivated from page one. This story was so original and full of mystery...it had me completely clueless on what could possibly happen next. Some stories are predictable...but, I doubt one person could have seen where the story was going!!! Do yourself a favor and give this book a chance. You won't regret it- I promise!!! Can't wait to see what the next book has in store for Charlie and her friends! 5 stars!!!!

This is the 1st in a new series by this fairly new author. It is my understanding that the See series is going to tie in with the Insight series and you can already start to see that with this 1st installment. It amazes me when authors can keep track of what is going on in a story line to create more than one book in a series. It is really awesome to think that an author has the capability to do that with 2 series and then tie them together in the process. I can't wait to see how this turns out.

I still like these books but.................The focus is now on the other group of teens to fill us in on what led them to the point where theyjoined the origional 'cast'. I do like these characters but no as much as the origionals, and the other storyline was better. I'm hoping that by the time I get to the last book I'll be blown away with how both sets interact!

That was powerful! I loved the story from the first page until the very last. It's rare for a book to captivate me in that kind of way.

A wonderful tale.. Love how it shows you that you do not have to be alone to battle your battles. Its okay to lean on someone for help! A wonder written YA book does not cross the line. A must read for 2012!

This book was frustrating because the storyline was original, the characters were rich and loveable, and I was engaged from the very first page...but the author clearly doesn't know proper English and hasn't hired an editor. Literally every paragraph, there were sentences I had to read maybe three times over to make sense of them. That I'm giving this book 4 stars speaks volumes about how much I loved everything else about it, because the language really was unacceptable. I even purchased other books in the series, because I'm dying to know what happens and I wasn't ready to let go of the characters - but a whole year later, I haven't yet read them, because I don't know if I have it in me to face the headache of trying to decipher the author's use of English.

If the author happens to read this, I do editing! I'd love to fix the book!

DNF at 47%. I tried, I really did. The story was interesting, the twists and turns intriguing, but the execution fell flat. Spelling and grammatical errors aside, the world building was sloppy, and poorly delivered. The character development was slow and disjointed. I understand that the author was trying to make the reader feel as confused as the main character with amnesia, but there still has to be a hook to make me want to read past the confusion, and it just wasn't there for me.

Unusual & interesting. I didn't expect ghosts and phantoms coming out of the darkness and shadows at night. Even more I didn't expect to encounter a group of people who have special capabilities to see & talk to them. They were able to "see their memories" and speak words that neutralized them from harming people.

A crazy sort of love story and friendship between this group of friends with like skills. Who knew!

Two and a half stars. I could see this getting better reviews from those who favor paranormal themes. At times, I could really relate to the heroine. In the last chapter, the plot seemed to go over the edge. Again, this might be better enjoyed if this genre is your favorite. It was fast reading but I probably will not continue the series
