On a rainy, windswept night along a slick coastal road Hayden Ryan wants nothing more than a chance at a new beginning. She’s hoping to put enough miles behind her to escape the grasp of her former boss, Jeremy Dochenko. Jeremy’s already tried to have her killed once before. And now, too tired to go any farther, she pulls off the road until the rain lets up. When she wakes to flashing lights in her rear view mirror, the last thing she needs is the suspicious, watchful eyes of Deputy Sheriff, Ethan Cody.
Like his father, Ethan Cody sometimes uses the shaman in him from his Chumash heritage to “read people.” The minute he sees Hayden Ryan on the side of the road, he senses enough fear and danger in her to set up roadblocks. His cop instincts tell him to avoid her like the plague. But avoiding her is difficult, especially when she decides to stay in Pelican Pointe. Soon mistrust on both sides turns to a love neither one saw coming.
Will they be able to trust each other in time to prevent Dochenko’s henchmen from destroying what they have together?

Why, o why do I do this to myself? All these books. Yes, all of them labelled as "romantic suspense" are utter crap. They all carry the same formula. A beautiful, "intelligent", yet lost heroine. A hero so macho, he makes me want to throw up, what with his six-pack abs, and knack to show up just before the woman he loves is going to be killed. Of course, there has to be insta love; they meet each other, they fucking hate each other, they fuck each other, they love fucking each other, they fuck some more, they fall in love, and they get married. If I'm lucky, this is within the span of a month, but of course, I have shit luck, so it generally happens in a week. All this. Now, I've never really had a full-flung relationship, but I'm a realist, and I know that this is just plain ridiculous. Add to this a sprinkling of grammatical errors, and lo and behold, any idiot with a laptop can become a "writer". And they make it a series? Like one torture device wasn't enough? Writers, please, please buy a dictionary and some imagination, or just stop writing. There's only so much we can suffer.
I just Love Vickie McKeehan's writing.. she knows exactly how to get you to fall in love with her characters and the storyline. Each book I have read of hers I find I love even more than the last.
A new life and a new beginning is what Emile Reed is looking for, and that is just what she gets. After being attacked by one of the henchmen that her former boss Jeremy Dochenko sent to silence Emile from testifying against him. Emile deems it necessary to get as far away from Chicago as she can get.She could go into protective custody but then she would have to give up her mother and her sister and completely forget her past. That is something she is not willing to do.So running is her only option at this point. She now has assumed the name Hayden Ryan and changed her hair color and now all she has left to do is fine a new town in a new state as far from everyone and everything she knows.
Santa Cruz sounds like just the place for her... until, She meets Ethan the deputy of Pelican Point. Sexy Native American deputy Ethan Cody comes across Hayden along side the road in the pouring rain and sends her to Pelican Cove for a dry comfortable nights rest. Though he knows something isn't right Hayden has secrets and he is determined to find out what they are. I mean this is his town and she is now here He needs to be sure the citizens are safe. Hayden find she loves Pelican Cove and decides that is is the perfect place to start a new life but she has to keep her past in the past. No one especially Deputy Dawg can know who she really is and why she is on the run. When Hayden arrived he had no idea of what Pelican Cove has to hold, but definitely did think she would fall in love and make it her home. With the help of Ethan, Jordan and Nick she can move on from the past and look forward to an Amazing happy future. But first she needs to be honest with them and let them help her.
I loved this book from page one and was enthralled with it till the end.I can not wait to see what Vickie McKeehan and Pelican Point/Cove has in store for us next!! Amazon will only allow me 5 stars for this book but there are not enough stars to be given for this book and the series. All hearts to Vickie.
Hidden Moon Bay is book two in the Pelican Pointe series by Vickie McKeehan. It is an excellent book with plenty of action as well as romance. The characters are wonderful and it couldn’t have been set in a prettier setting. I simply could not put the book down. I am looking forward to the next in the series. Emile Reed was running. She had been accosted and nearly raped and killed in the parking garage. She could still feel the knife at her neck. She didn’t want to testify against Dovenko now, not if it put her life and the lives of her sister and mother at risk. A friend in Nebraska helped her chance her name and set her on the road to make a new life as Hayden Ryan. Her new life brought her to a rainy night on a road that seemed to go nowhere and a car that finally was running out of gas with no station in sight. Now a police vehicle is pulling up behind her. What is Hayden going to do? Will he recognize her from a list of fugitives she knew he must have? Ethan Cody just wishes this rainy night would be over and he could go home. He was deputy sheriff under his brother who was sheriff; however, Ethan really didn’t want to be in law enforcement any more. He wanted to be able to sit at home and write and have his books published. With the rejections he kept getting, that dream seemed far away. Now he had to get wet once more to make sure whoever was in the car was all right. What a surprise he got when he saw the lovely lady in the car. However, his Native Indian power told him there was something dangerous about this lady. When he asked for her name, she stumbled over it. Who is she? Why is she here? Who is she running from? Are Ethan’s instincts right? The book is fantastic and makes you want to go on to book three immediately.
1. I usually reserve one star ratings for books I was forced to read in school (usually by teachers I didn’t like.) 2. It was free on Amazon (I LOVE Amazon lol) 3. It wasn’t terrible. I did finish it after all. 4. I’ve considered that maybe this is one of those it’s me not you situations.
Reasons this book barely got two stars:
1. I spent most of this book bored and annoyed. 2. The characters NEVER shut up. When they talk they go through every single boring useless detail. Seriously several conversations are pages of useless overly descriptive exchanges. 3. It seemed like every time Hayden met a new character they would tell her their life story right off the bat. 4. When Ethan first met Hayden he was very suspicious of her (which I understand) and kind of rude. And then two chapters later he became a horny teenager around her. He thought she was attractive when he first met her but his attitude towards her felt too abrupt in my opinion. 5. I was surprised Hayden managed to stay hidden from the bad guys for so long, because it seemed like she took some risks that would’ve gotten her caught sooner including occasionally drawing too much attention to herself a couple of times.
I could go on but I’m more than ready to move on from this book.
This is the 2nd book I have read of Vickie McKeehan's in the last 3 days. The 1st was Promise Cove, which is the 1st book in the trilogy. I have found it very hard to put these books down once I had started reading them. After I finished the 1st book last evening I immediately picked up the 2nd one and had read over a third of it before I figured it was time to get some sleep but I picked it up and started reading as soon as I got up this morning.
I loved both of these books. The books are about the people of a town called Pelican Pointe. There is romance, suspense and a great storyline. The people of Pelican Pointe feel like people you would want for friends. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series - Dancing Tides. I hope Vickie writes more books about Pelican Pointe.
This book was a freebie a couple of weeks for a limited time on Amazon and I quickly scooped it up. I knew going in that it was the 2nd book in a series but since it looked like was about different people than the first I figured I’d go ahead and read it first so that if I didn’t like I wouldn’t be out any money. Trust me when I say that I spend enough money on books so I scoop up the freebies any time that I can. This book didn’t disappoint me and I will be going back to read book one as well as other books from this author. I enjoyed her writing style and the story to me was intriguing.
Hayden Ryan is on the run from a very bad man that wants to kill her. He is her old boss that turned out to be a Russian mobster and she is one of the key witnesses that can put him behind bars for a very long time. Hayden has left Chicago and now finds herself 3,000 miles from there, lost in a really bad thunder storm running on fumes in the middle of the night. She decides that it’s best to pull over and wait it out in hopes that once the new day has dawned she will be able to figure out where she is and where she made her wrong turn.
Ethan Cody is a deputy sheriff in the small town of Pelican Pointe. When he finds Hayden parked in the middle of the road during a thunderstorm he knows right away that she’s hiding something big. He has always been able to read people and knows right away that her real name is not Hayden and that she isn’t from Nevada. But he can’t leave her out there in rain in the middle of the night so he takes her to Promise Cove Bed & Breakfast which is the only place in town to stay other than someone’s house. The owners, Jordan and Nick are newlyweds that cannot keep their hands off each other and have an adorable little girl.
With a little push from Jordan, Hayden quickly decides that it might be easier to hide in a small backwoods town that is barely on the map any longer. The people are friendly and while she’s weary of cops she can’t help but to find Deputy Dawg intriguing. That is if she can keep her secrets to herself and keep Ethan at arm’s length.
As I mentioned before this is the 2nd book in the series and while I able to follow along quite easily I knew that I was missing key things from the story. The reason that I say this is that two of the main characters in the first book, Jordan and Nick, play a major part in this book. Their story was told in book 1 so while you can read this book first I wouldn’t suggest it since you get a glimpse of their future hold after their story ends.
I’d also like to add that while this is a “soft” romance there is also a small tiny bit of paranormal thrown in that I can’t wait to see if that little mystery continues in the next book but first I will be going back to read book 1. 4.5 stars
This book was so very delightful it had just the right amount of romance and mystery that all books should have. The fact that Hayden (Emile) took it upon herself to leave town after fearing for her life from hunch men who work for her old boss is impressive to say the least, she managed to live on the run for months, she changed her car, her daily life style, she changed her name and she found a place that she figured would be safe enough. What she didn’t count on was falling for the little town and the community where everyone knew everyone by name and if something happened in the morning in one part of town by dinner time everyone knew about it.
When Hayden finds herself at a little B&B run by Nick and Jordan, who convinces Hayden to stick around and befriends her without too many questions but Nick can sense that there is something in Hayden’s past that she is trying to avoid talking about. The couple is the first real friends that Hayden has had in a very long time and when Deputy Ethan tries to dig into her past but comes up empty he can’t seem to shake the gut feeling that he has whenever the two are together. The attraction between Hayden and Ethan isn’t anything to ignore.
As the book goes on Hayden’s past seems to be catching up with her at an alarming rate but quick thinking Ethan is determined to protect her no matter what.
I would greatly recommend that anyone who is looking for a romance that will keep you wanting more and more read this book. I know I for one will be looking for more from Vickie McKeehan.
"Hidden Moon Bay" by Vicky McKeehan is a lovely romance novel set on the beautiful coast of California. Under the assumed name of Hayden our heroine settles into the small community of Pelican Pointe to hide from her former Russian boss against whom she testified and who is still on the loose and after her life. The owners of the B&B she stays in soon become her surrogate family and policeman Ethan her love interest. The story moves smoothly from her first arrival to her feeling at home in her new environment, gradually planning her future in the little village and opening up about her past. There are some supernatural elements to this tale, for starters there is a benign ghost who looks after the B&B. Then there is deputy Ethan who is psychic and who gradually discovers Hayden's secret through premonitions. Ethan is also a reluctant policeman who would much rather write and lead a different life. As with McKeehan's other work, her characters are deep, unusual, slightly unpredictable and colourful. The book is easy and pleasurable to read and I devoured it in one sitting.
Vickie McKeehan grabbed my attention on page one of her novel, Hidden Moon Bay, as she described the brutal murder attempt on Emile Reed. I remained glued to the pages for the rest of the story as Emile flees for her life from Chicago to a remote coastal town in central California, changing her identity to Hayden Ryan on the way. As the main witness to a multi million dollar fraud, the perpetrators want her dead. She tries to lose herself as a nobody in the small community but she meets a good looking cop who suspects she has a "past". This causes stress in their amorous relationship. For an entertaining adventure and love story, I highly recommend Hidden Moon Bay.
Wow, what a wonderful book about a woman on the run for her life, a ghost, a small town deputy, and a beautiful little town on the California coast. I thoroughly enjoyed this story about self preservation and starting over. Even through all the turmoil Hayden was able to find love in the unlikeliest of places and preserve in the face of such adversity. What a heartwarming story with a paranormal flare! Great writing!
Book 2 in the series, a very nice blend of continuing the story from book 1 and yet letting Ethan and Hayden have their own story. A wonderful mix of romance, suspense, a bit of paranormal and lots of small town life. If you have read Robyn Carr's Virgin river series and enjoyed it, you will love this series. It is totally unique, but engages me the same way, leaves me with that warm fuzzy feeling. Off to read book 3 of 6 in this series
This second book in the series, is just as good as the first one. The storyline of Hayden is very interesting and believable. It usuals a book that can be read as a stand alone. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading Book 3.
Hayden/E.R. and Ethan' s HEA! 3.5***** Spoiler Alert¡
Emile Reed, unwitting accountant for a Russia swindler/ mob boss, Jeremy D., escaped his henchman in Chicago to Pelican Pointe while restarting her new life as Hayden Ryan, farm worker/ diner waitress/ bookstore owner. Ethan Cody, PP Deputy Dawg/ struggling author/ former rocker, with his native American psychic talents, realized the love of his life was in danger. However he gave her time to get comfortable in their new relationship, before she told him about her past. The Feds, Brent, and Ethan, along with Myrtle, were able to corner Luka, Jeremy's paid assassin, thereby saving Hayden and having Interpol arrest Jeremy D.
Great characters and an interesting plot, along with Kent and Sissy' s bank robbery/escape and Jordan finally distressing sufficiently to finally see and speak to GhostMan Scott, and Hayden, alongside Nick and Jordan co-managing Haggert’s Organic Farm as their new inheritance, as sub-plots. Honesty being the bedrock of all relationships, is the flowing theme throughout this novel. PP is slowly acquiring its new blood and rebirth. A MUST-READ!

The love story of Emile (Hayden) and Ethan. While is on the run from the FBI and killer. On a run night she end her journey on the side of the road in Pelican Pointe. She mets Ethan and he known She is keeping a secrets. Can he help her ? Great story.
Hayden was almost killed one night and was able to get away to the cove but was stopped by ethan and at first ethan didnt trust her. Ethan tried really hard to get her history but as time went on it was less about her secret and more of protecting her. Hayden got through a lit with the ghost of Scott the protector.
Wonderful second book in this series. I m often leary of a series, but I believe the second is better than the first. Highly recommended to mature readers who love romance, beautiful scenery, strong characters, and page after page of suspense. Keep writing VM.!
Well she did it again. I wasn’t sure when I started this book but it didn’t take long and I wanted to know how it ended. Love the characters and the plot. Thanks
I just love pelican pointe. Loved hearing more about Nick and Jordan and the cove. The farm sounds lovely and i adore Hayden and Ethan. The bookstore is amazing! And Scott.
Wow, another day spent ready a great book. Well written with full characters and enough suspense and sweet love for any reader. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
She’s on the run and gets helped by the local police. She stays at the B&B and they help her. She gets a job, falls for the deputy and then the killer arrives.
Love this story. Characters are all wonderful. It was hard to put this book down. Started a tiny bit slow but something about it I couldn't quit and so so glad I didn't.
Falling in love with this Pelican Pointe series. Who knew ghosts could be so interesting and approachable. Ethan and Hayden are the ideal opposite to attract pair, but the way he steps up to protect her is heartwarming. Somehow, this piece of fiction rings true to life.
Another stellar read from Vickie McKeehan. I am adoring this series and can't wait to pick up #3. This book was perfect combination of steamy romance, suspense, and phenomenal character development.
