Ascoltato camminando estraniandomi da tutto, straziante.
Racconta dei nostri alpini tra paura e attesa, sommersi di neve, mentre fuori imperversa la guerra e come se non bastasse anche la natura intorno a loro si fa aliena. Rintanati sotto terra, che De Roberto la definisce la porta dell'inferno.
P.S. "Torneranno i prati" è il film di Ermanno Olmi tratto dal racconto che è possibile vedere in questi giorni su Raiplay, merita.

Probabilmente non avrei mai letto questo libro, non è il mio genere. Grazie all'audiolibro ed alla superba interpretazione di Pierfrancesco Favino, invece, mi è piaciuto molto. Una lettura veloce ed intensa, mi riprometto di approfondire questo autore.

Ascoltato il primo giorno dell'anno mentre salivo verso il saltuario. Un ascolto memorabile, ancora guerra, sì, sempre quella, perché gli uomini sanno odiare meglio di qualsiasi altro animale; e i compagni che muoiono uno ad uno, e la paura che attanaglia, e i pensieri che si accalcano, e la razionalità relegata in un angolo oscuro, e le azioni di chi non è più lucido. Questo è il racconto de"la paura", una chiara rappresentazione di ciò che stiamo vivendo all'epoca del Covid.

I listened to the audiobook read by Pierfrancesco Favino one evening on my way home by car. I felt there, in the trenches. I couldn't see the motorway but the rocky mountains, I wasn't driving the car but trying to duck and dodge the bullets.
I understood the fear, those agonies.

And us complaining about a mask, about not being able to go to the cinema, about medicine.

This is a chilling short story: a platoon is huddled up on a rock, about a third of a mile opposite the enemy troops, in a situation of idle stall and implicit no aggression. Until a change in the nationality of the enemy troops means that a sniper starts targeting the very exposed sentry post. I wont' spoil it for you, but what follows is blood curdling.

The writing is beautiful, with just a few neat and concise words sufficient to make each character come alive, even those that don't stay with us for more than a paragraph. Great read.
