I began my working life as a small-animal vet. Like turning the pages in a book, I was never quite sure what was going to happen at the surgery next. From the sausage dog who swallowed a sewing needle to the telly addict of a rabbit who lost an eye to infection, there was never a dull moment.

I have always loved to read, escaping into all kinds of novels during those long nights on call, but I didn’t have much time to pursue writing until after my children were born and I gave up full-time work to look after them. I joined a creative writing group and entered all the writing competitions I could find.

My break into becoming a published author came in 2002 when I was joint winner of the Harry Bowling First Novel Award. At the award ceremony, I met Laura Longrigg of MBA Literary Agents who signed me up on delivery of a finished manuscript.

In April 2003, Laura rang to say that Headline were offering me a two book deal. I had to dial 1471 to check she really had called me and I wasn’t dreaming.

My first novel, Under The Bonnet, was published in November 2004. My second, Our House, was published in 2005, the third, Family Matters in 2006, and the fourth, The Boy Next Door in 2007.

Since then, I’ve been working on an exciting new project, a series of novels about The Otter House Vets, a fictional practice set in a quiet Devonshire market town. Trust Me, I’m a Vet, which will be published in paperback by Arrow Books in April 2010, closely followed by the second book in September 2010.

Since I last updated my website, my menagerie of animals has grown, much to my family’s delight. We now share our lives with two cats, three mad Border Terriers, two ponies and two pet rats which we found abandoned to starve in a cage in the woods nearby. You should have heard my husband’s sigh of resignation when I told him we were bringing them home!

I found this book a nice light read but very enjoyable with lots of ups & downs in everyday life. What happens when the village GP and local vet get together !!!!! Well the road is anything but smooth for them, only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the story was a little bit predictable but read this book you won't be disappointed x

It took me over a month to finish this... I enjoyed the first 100 odd pages and then it all went downhill. The characters are all horribly annoying - the bipolar sister, nagging niece and nephew, the horrid patients... The list goes on. I didn't like anyone in the book. I was also disappointed that the entire book was equestrian based. Yes, the blurb mentioned horses but the cover has 2 cats and a dog on it - there isn't a single cat in the book. And "vets" in love - there is one vet in the book. Just all round disappointing. Would recommend to people who lived Saddle Club as kids as this is the grown up version!!!

Cathy Woodman’s Talyton St George series is one of my favourite book series! Mostly because it features lots, and lots of animals and I just don’t think you can go wrong with books that feature animals. You already have my approval. There are 8 novels in the series so far (well, there will be when book 8 is released in April), as well as a digital novella and I have to be honest, I was suprised to discover that fact! I truly wasn’t aware there were already 8 novels. I had read the first 5, but hadn’t managed to get around to 6 or 7, you know what it’s like when books just pile up and you discover books ages after and wonder why you hadn’t already read it, but with book 8 around the corner, I thought it was very much time to catch up on the fantastic series, so I started with Vets In Love!

Vets In Love is book 6 in the series, and as with all the later books, introduces us to entirely new characters (at least I think they are – from what I can remember, we haven’t already met Nicci or Matt before, and if we have it would only have been briefly) and, sadly, there is no Maz in sight. I do miss Maz. But, I also like being introduced to the newer residents of Talyton St George – and it seems there is no shortage of fantastic new characters for us to meet! Nicci is the newest GP in town, who also moonlights as a horse eventer (is that the right word? I have no idea), with her horse, Willow. When Matt comes into Nicci’s surgery with a busted shoulder, it’s love at first shoulder, or it would be if they weren’t bound by client/patient rules, and there wasn’t a pesky ex on the scene, desperate to stick her oar in where it isn’t welcome. But despite all the issues, the two keep finding themselves drawn to each other, until they can deny their feelings any longer. But things just keep getting in the way – mostly work, but also Nicci’s training for the competition she’s entering as well as Nicci’s wayward sister Cheska and her kids. Can Nicci and Matt make it work or is there just too much pressure on their relationship too soon?

I very much enjoyed Vets In Love. As I say in most of my Cathy Woodman reviews, reading one of her books is like slipping into my comfy duvet, they’re such warm, lovely books and I just know that what I see, is what I get. Although I do personally think the official Amazon summary probably gives a bit too much away about the book! Most of the stuff in the synopsis doesn’t actually occur til really late in the book. The first chunk of the book is devoted to getting to know Nicci, to learn about her work as a GP (more fascinating than I thought), learning about her life with horses (which all went over my head, to be honest, but I loved reading about the relationship between Nicci and Willow, it was super sweet) and seeing Nicci and Matt do that dance. The dance that shows you two people could not be more perfect for each other, and it was so frustrating every time something popped up that prevented them from simply spending time together! It drove me mad! What with one thing or another, they just couldn’t seem to go on many dates, or anything at all! I was frustrated on their behalves, especially because their scenes lit up the book! They were very flirty with each other and it was lovely to be able to see that!

Vets In Love is yet another brilliant addition to the Talyton St George series! I raced through it, and the only real sticking point for me was Nicci’s feckless sister Cheska, who drove me to the brink of insanity. If somebody came into my house the way Cheska did, and used my house the way Cheska did and left it in a perpetual state of untidiness she would have been out on her ear. I loved her two kids, Sage and Gabriel, but Cheska was like a child who had never grown up and I wanted Nicci to tell her to grow up. But apart from that (and Matt’s ex-girlfriend Mel who hung around like a bad smell) I thought it was a lovely novel. It was so nice to see characters who are always on the fringes of the books, like Frances and FiFi. I can’t wait to get stuck into books 7 and 8 as soon as possible because reading Vets In Love made me realise how much I’d missed reading about the folks of Talyton St George. I very much want to move there as soon as I can, and I wish it was a real place, because it definitely is the most romantic place in Britain, and it also sounds like the most wonderful place to live!

I’ve always enjoyed the Talyton St George series by Cathy Woodman (reviews here) so I couldn’t resist buying this one!

In no time at all I was drawn in by the warm characters and rural setting. The blossoming romance was the main feature of the story but it was surrounded by the fascinating day-to-day lives of a village GP and vet. The medical scenes were written convincingly and in such a way that I felt like I was taking part too! This was something that I particularly enjoyed.

Cathy’s relaxing writing style made this book a pleasure to read and as you’d expect from a series there was a sense of familiarity when characters from previous books made appearances. Horse lovers will enjoy the horsey events and activities, following Nicci as she fulfills her riding ambitions. The gentle drama was just enough to keep me on my toes.

Vets In Love was another lovely read from this author, wrapping me up in the feeling of rural life beautifully.

read this on a whim after spotting it in the second hand books at church, even though I really didn't need another book with a large TBR pile already, but I'd not read a Cathy Woodman before so I thought why not...

Enjoyed it enough to be happy to read the rest of the Talyton St George books if I came across them. Though Vets in Love seemed an odd title since the book was mainly about the doctor and her vet boyfriend. Yes there was another vet in it who was a necessary character for the storyline, but didn't really warrant the s in vets....but it was a lovely read, so I can let that pass!

AND only a couple of edit errors which is a good plus point, I hate books full of spelling errors, extra words and words in the wrong place that make me want to get the red pen out...which of course I could never actually do...

AMAZING! One of the best books in the series, I definitely enjoyed this book a lot. Plenty of horses and engaging right from the very start.

This is really more of a "doctors and horses" book, rather than "vets and dogs", and at first I didn't think the changeup was going to work for me, but it does. Things get rolling a little more normally once Matt becomes a bigger character, and the additions of Cheska, her kids and family issues helps a lot. I also particularly like the Dark Star storyline, more than that of Willow. Another good read!

My only real criticism of this book is that in the first quarter there is rather too much time spent on the One-day Event. The minutiae may be appreciated by those who ride but, for townies like me whose childhood dreams of riding ponies were never fulfilled, it was all rather unnecessary especially as it didn’t contribute much to the story. That aside, it is another great read from Cathy Woodman and I enjoyed it as much as the previous 5 in the series.

The title is slightly misleading as it's more about a doctor than 2 vets. It was a nice predictable romantic story. However unless you really like horses I would give this book a miss as over half the book is about the doctor riding her horse.

2⭐=Below Average.

Not a great lover of this. I think it was because it revolved around a Dr's practise as well as around an equine practise. I think I've had my fill of medicine over my career! 😂
I hope that I enjoy the next in the series better.

Romances are not my favorite kinds of books. However, this one is not your typical romance. There’s a lot of interaction, it is not predictable, and the characters are lively.

Cute story, a light read, but it's definitely better suited for younger readers. I found the story to be a little bit forced and not as engaging as Cathy Woodman's other books.

This book in the series I found just a little predictable as early on you knew who the going to fall in love and for me not as filled with tension as some in the series. Sage was a wonderful character really took to her.
But lovely to have the old favourite character threaded through the story line. It's not put me off reading the books to follow on in this series

Light-hearted romance read.

I have never read anything by Cathy Woodman before so I felt pleasantly surprised with how the story played out. It wasn’t until I had read the book that I realised it was part of a series, though I think most can be read as stand alone books like this one. I liked the author’s light style of writing with how she creates her story.

The title may be a little misleading, as only one of the leads is a vet, Matt, with the other being a doctor, Nicci, but the romance defiantly isn’t. When Matt and Nicci first meet you can see the sparks fly between them, even if Nicci is causing him a bit of pain trying to sort out his shoulder. This would be ok in a normal situation but as Nicci is the local GP and Matt is the patient it makes things a little more complicated. Matt never the one to back away from something he wants just goes right ahead and switches doctors so Nicci will have no excuses for dating him.

Their romance gets off to a great start, even with their crazy work schedules, the chemistry between the characters is clear. Everything seems to be going in the right direction for them, but with Nicci’s sister, niece and nephew suddenly showing up for a ‘visit’ which turns into a lot longer, Matt’s ex dropping some devastating news on him and Matt’s dislike of Nicci’s eventing for fear she might get hurt, things start to unravel fast. A lot of things seem to be being thrown at them and they have to decide if all the stress is worth it in the end.

After about half way through you can see how the story is going to play out (it is a romance novel after all) but I still found it a good lunchtime read, a light-hearted romance to get swept away with. It does make me want to check out the rest of the series now.

Prior to reading this book, I will admit that I had certain pre-concieved ideas about this book mainly due to the title and the cover. The title ‘Vets In Love’ and the slightly twee cover gave me the immediate impression that this would be a light-hearted read with average characters and an extremely predictable plot. I am a big fan of the ‘chick-lit’ genre but there is a fine line between a light-hearted read with fantastic characters and an unexpected plot line and a dull light-hearted read that does not draw you in to the character’s world.

However I was pleasantly surprised with this book and I am glad that I made the effort to get through the first few chapters. Yes, it was a light-hearted read but it was an enjoyable one and there were several unexpected plot turns. Although it was slightly predicatable in how it would end (it is after all a romance novel), I enjoyed the development of Nicci & Matt’s relationship. I read the book in one sitting unable to put it down.

If you love a light-hearted read set in a rural location with plenty of romance and family related drama then this is definitely the book for you. This is the sixth book in the ‘Taylton St George’ series and although this is a standalone book I would consider reading the other books in the series.

“Vets in Love”is the 6th book in the Talyton St George series. Not only is Nicci is the local GP but she is a keen horsewoman and along with her horse Willow has ambitions to qualify for the Badminton Horse Trials. Being a hardworking GP with a long list of demanding patients and equally demanding family there is little time in Nicci's life for a man, let alone a man that comes with an ex-girlfriend who will not let go of her former love, Matt without a fight.
Once again we meet characters from the previous 5 books set in Talyton St George but perhaps not enough of the original characters such as Maz, Alex and Emma.

This book was an easy read and didn’t require a huge amount of concentration and thought. Readings equivalent of a gentle stroll on a sunny Sunday afternoon with no great excitement or revelations. Perfectly enjoyable if you are looking for an non taxing read. Will be read the subsequent books in the Talyton St George series.

I was bored from the first page of this book but I am a completest and very rarely will I be unwilling to finish a book. This was no exception. I kept trudging through, hoping with every turned page that SOMETHING would surprise me and make it worth the work. It wasn't.

I almost gave up a few times but I was sitting next to my bf on the train and every time I wanted to he encouraged me to keep trying.

When I finally did make it through the end was an even bigger let down than I thought possible. Talk about anti-climactic.

Even the wrenches thrown into the budding relationship were predictable and boring.

I was looking forward to this read and was sorely disappointed.

The only reason it even got 1 star is that I did wind up caring about some of the characters at least. I did hope for a good outcome in the end.

I liked this book in the Talyton St George series; this time is about Nicci, the new GP and Matt, one of the Vets at the Equestrian Hospital.
As usual, the path of true love doesn't flow easily. There's Cheska, Nicci's sister and her 2 children Sage and Gabriel; Willow the horse and then there's Cheska's longstanding problem with her Mother.
Will Nicci and Matt love happily ever after?
I really like the series and will read the rest of the books in the series however a small negative is that they are getting a little formulaic; but I cannot put them down as they are great fun to read. I like the relationship issues as well as the animals which are an integral part of all the books in the series. Roll on book 7...

Each book in the Talyton St George series can be read as a standalone novel, but I would certainly recommend reading them all in order as you will get to know the characters and their stories. This is the sixth book and I really enjoyed it. I am a big fan of Cathy Woodman's books, she has a lovely style of writing that is like being wrapped in a big warm hug. I loved the story and I did really feel for Nicci at times. I enjoyed reading about the horses side of the book as I used to ride and this has made me really want to get back into it. A lovely little story that you will want to read over and over again.

I keep visiting Talyton St George, and it never changes! It's like visiting home after time away! There are always stories to be told, new visitors or residents to meet and the welcome never wavers.

I liked the the little aknowledgments & updates to the original characters from the series, and you know they'll never be far away!
