Roger McGough's The Ring of Words is a perfect introduction to the pleasures of poetry. The poems are, in one way or another, about growing up - placing ourselves in the world around us and discovering the imaginative world in our own heads.
Such a wonderful anthology. Loved by all I know who’ve read it. One of the best. The poem choices are fantastic and the illustrations are fantastic. A Perfect union of words and pictures.
This has a good range of child friendly poetry, covering a lot of themes that children could relate to. It would provide children with a variety of types of poems that could be used to inspire their own poetry or used as examples to study in their own right. The topics covered and variety of length and seriousness means there is something for all in this collection which would make it a very good addition to a class library.
Poems are based on a theme. Lots of different examples. I enjoyed an ordinary day, the word party, the all purpose children's poem and a small girl swinging. Lots of discussion opportunities.
