Louisa wakes from a deep heavy fog, surrounded by strangers and horrified to discover she's been the sole victim of a terrible buggy accident. Worse... she remembers nothing.
Trevor Worthington, Duke of Kenbridge, can’t trust women. Yet after nearly killing the amnesiac Louisa, he has little choice but to open his home to her. His heart softens to the straggly woman in beggars garb as he strives to help her regain her memory. As proof of Louisa's scars, both physical and those lurking beneath the surface, come to light, Trevor finds himself more and more drawn to the mysterious woman. However he is hesitant to enter another nightmarish entanglement like his first marriage.
Louisa is all too happy to accept employment in the Duke's household though it quickly becomes apparent she doesn't fit in at all! For starters she speaks French and has no skills to speak of. Bits and pieces of conflicting memories flash through her mind, lending more confusion to the puzzle of her life. Fortunately the duke proves ever patient with her myriad of mistakes and Louisa finds herself falling in love with the kind, brooding man. As their budding relationship progresses from improper to scandalous Louisa's memory begins to return. Dare she tell Trevor the horrible truths of her past? That she belongs to an evil man known only as Macgregor.
As the heartbreaking facts of Louisa's past are exposed and decade old questions come to light, will the truth keep these lovers from happiness? Will Trevor be able to give love another chance? Or will Louisa's sweet touch prove yet another forgotten memory...
I loved it! Plain and simple. It had simpering sweet and clean sexy moments. Fun happy and explosive moments of emotion I won't tell of which kind of course. Very intrigueing, fun, my favorite word clean. I love that even in the colonial times or any "time" period she writes I can read it with out covering my eyes or embarrased by what I read because it's clean! I just love Marie Higgins writing. She has become one of my favorite authors and I don't have many favorites. I recommend it and can't wait to read The sweetest love and the sweetest secret both by her I just haven't found them yet.
I gave Mrs. Higgins another try after her recommendation that I read a book that was not published by Walnut Springs publishing. Soooooooo much better written and overall well put together. I wasn't left frustrated or confused by missing stuff that was taken out of her other book. I actually read it all in a day as this was a short read. I will for sure read her others that are her own work, without the publishers suggestions of taking out content. I will add a list of her books that are self published to my comment as soon as I find it. Stay away from those not listed in here as the publisher did a poor job, much to her detriment of loosing readers.
"Take My Heart" (previously titled "Pretending You Are Mine") Colonial romance, "Falling In Love Again" (Colonial romance), "The Sweetest Kiss" (Regency romance), and "A Walk In Heaven" (Christian historical romance).
This is the sweetest book I have ever read. I thoroughly enjoyed this tale and the journey it took me through. Marie did a great job with this sweet regency romance. The characters are lovable and very real for the era the story portrays. If you like Jane Austen’s writing you will love Marie’s books. Louisa Hamilton is a pickpocket; she has to be or be bitten by the man who owns her. He just brought her back to a place that brings shadows to her mind. She is on the verge of finding who this shadows occults when she is run over by Trevor Worthington, Fourth Duke of Kenbridge. Feeling guilty, he takes her home and nurses her to health. Pretty soon it is obvious that he is bound to lose either his pocket watch or his heart.
What a story! There were many ups and downs throughout the book that kept the story engaging. I found a lot of the book quite funny as well as sweet. I enjoyed how clues were slowly put together as we went along and in the end everyone ended up where they needed to be. We also had a sneak peak of the Duke and how he interacted with his brothers and best friend. This was the first book I read in the series even tho it is out of order. I will certainly read the rest of them. Great find!
3.5 This is the second book in the series. As a lot of second books, it wasn't as good as the first. I liked the fact that Trevor didn't completly lead Lousia on. But it just didn't have the same draw that the first book had. To be honest I enjoyed the fact that Trevor was not a rake and that he was so sweet. I just didn't really like the storys premise. It did keep me reading though.
Marie Higgins does it again. This was by far my favorite so far!!! Such a good book, could not even put it down!!! A must read!!! For the past 6 years Lousia has lived as a thief until one night when she is accidently hit by the Dukes carriage!!! There's fun, laughter, seriousness, kidnapping, and so much more. A must read!!
It has been a while since I read a good historical romance and this book help me remember why I feel in love with it in the first place. Once I started reading I couldn't stop. A definitely must read!!
Enjoyed this romance of Trevor and Louisa. The ending seemed a bit rushed regarding the Danvers. Memory loss was a bit tedious. Ready for books 3 and 4 . Tristan and Nic maybe super resistant to love given Trey and Trevor capitulations.
I love this authors stories. They pull me in from the very beginning and keep me wanting to read late into the night. This series has a bit more romance than most clean books I read. Although there isn’t any sex, there are “passionate” moments.
I won a free pdf from the author so I really wanted to love this book so that I could give her a glowing review. It is book #2 in a series, but I have not read book #1. I don't think it seemed to matter... I never felt confused. It starts off well, I was interested from the beginning. My first thoughts as I read were that there were some cheesy parts that didn't seem believable. For instance, the main character gets separated from her family and experiences memory loss. She happens to be helped by a man whose brother was lost and also experienced memory loss. A bit too coincidental in my opinion. My second thought was that there were so many typo errors throughout the book. I wondered if it was still in the editing process, but I see that it is currently for sale so I guess it's done. The errors distracted from the storytelling. My third complaint was that there was too much sensuality for a regency romance. Granted, it would still technically be called "clean," but usually these romances are all about the desire and less about passionate kissing with moans and sighs. The gentleman wasn't too much of a gentleman. He continually kisses a servant (despite saying he didn't want to be that kind of man) behind closed doors. Didn't gentlemen back then keep doors open when alone with a woman? But all of that aside, I did still want to continue reading to find out what happens. It was mostly a fun read it just could have been better.
Another great novel by Marie Higgins. In this story, Trevor's wife has passed away, leaving him with twins. He has found out that his wife was unfaithful and wonders whether the children are really his, or if they are the offspring of his Kate wife's lover. Fate steps in when, one day, his carriage accidentally hits and almost kills a young vagabond. He nurses her back to health and, it is through her that he eventually finds the truth. In fact, many truths are revealed through her. This wonderful story with a plot which loosely reminds the reader of a combination of Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist and Cinderella is a beautiful fairy tale with a nod to characters from the previous novel in this series. Marie Higgins has a lovely style of writing that pulls the reader's interest in from the very start and holds it to the very end. This book is a clean, historic, fictional romance and the second in the series. I highly recommend her works and look forward to reading the next book in this collection.
PG - Sex: no sex, some kisses Language: no swears, Violence: a speck of violence (not descriptive). Good continuation of "Sons of Worthington" series, but is a stand-alone as well. Cute story and nice way to spend the day.
