When he was only 21 years old, Pete Leibman landed his dream job working in the front office of the NBA’s Washington Wizards. He went on to become their number one salesperson for three straight seasons and was promoted to management in under two years. In this encouraging guidebook, Leibman shares his proven and simple system for career success. You’ll learn how to: think big and identify what you want from your career; network your way past corporate gatekeepers; impress highly influential people in any field; land interviews for jobs that aren’t posted; sell yourself on paper, online, and in person; and get hired faster and with less effort. Filled with the inspiring success stories of other young professionals, creative strategies for leveraging social media, and the five secrets that will skyrocket your earning potential once you are hired, I Got My Dream Job and So Can You provides you with the tools and confidence to overcome the discouraging job marketing and start climbing the ladder to success.
PETE LEIBMAN, despite being told it would be “impossible,” networked his way into a job with the NBA’s Washington Wizards right out of college and was promoted to management when he was only 23. Today, he is a popular keynote speaker, and the founder of Dream Job Academy, a career-training program for young professionals.
This book is a good read for someone who is beginning to dip their toe into the professional world. Lots of rubber-on-the-road advice about resumes, LinkedIn, salaries, job hunting, etc. However, like any career success is book, it tends to push the "ambition-filled success and money are the only things that matter" kind of view. For Christians, I would recommend it to be read beside The Common Rule for a more balanced view on vocation.
I'm currently going through a quarter-life crisis in a dead-end job and needed inspiration for starting a new career. While I skimmed through the 2015 edition of What Color Is Your Parachute? and completed the exercises, it wasn't overtly beneficial. As soon as I started I Got My Dream Job and So Can You, however, I was hooked. Leibman's funny, conversational tone made for a quick and easy read. The exercises (especially listing my five proudest achievements) immediately gave me a sense of what I wanted to do with my life. I took copious notes on networking, how to improve your LinkedIn profile, tips for a successful interview, and how to succeed in your position after landing your dream job. If you're stuck in a rut or thinking of changing careers, I highly recommend this book!
I wish I found these book sooner after high school. As Liebman teaches on how you can actually get a job worth livig for and also makes you really think on what you want to do in life. And that's profound, as many books out there just makes you focus on CV and resume, but in life is more than that, it's also about networking, and pursuing your passion. I would sincerely recommend to those who want to seek a career they can work and fall in love with.
Leibman's advice really opened my eyes. It helped me make connections that I never took the time to contemplate before. After reading his book, I'm more confident than ever in my ability to attain my dream job!
This is a great book for anyone (no matter their age) about ascertaining their dream job, getting there, and excelling there!
Great book for Job Seekers and Young Professionals alike. This book contains step by step guidelines that help you target, and obtain your "Dream Job".
There was some good content, but it was largely a regurgitation of the same type of advice that is found in these types of books. It was good enough, but loses stars for a lack of originality.
