First off the bat - the reproductions are horrible. I realize the limitations of black and white printing in 1962, but some of these are pretty much illegible. Thank god for Google Image Search.
The writing is rather dull, as you could expect from 58-year-old academic art study. The artists spoken of are quite fascinating, and the closer the book gets to its present (a tenuous stretch to call performance art and "happenings" a form of collage, but okay), the more interesting it is.
Not entirely worth the time I put into it, but a fairly interesting product of its time, I suppose.
This title had lots of information, but the photographs were in black and white, which was a little disappointing. I might check it out again someday, since I can't renew it due to another hold on it (I checked out the library's copy).
Not thrilled by this dated book. The surprisingly gendered view of artists working in collage is depressing and narrow minded. There are far better collage histories than this book available for research.
