It's rare to read erotica that is not all about the wham-bam, thank you, ma'am. I really enjoyed "How to Break a Cowboy" because there's an actual plot amidst all the hot, steamy sex.
Although this is my first (but not last!) Daire St. Denis story, I can tell she has a very deft hand writing sex scenes. Heck - she just writes very well, period. The dialogue, the characters, the setting - there really isn't too much for me to criticize.
My one critique though is this: I felt the reason Wade resisted Dallas, and its resolution was fairly weak. From the beginning, I did get the sense of Wade as a controlling man (not in a bad way). So the reason Wade did not want to continue a sexual relationship with Dallas beyond the one night they shared was because Wade was afraid of losing control? OK, but then when they did resume sex, Wade very quickly established his bedroom dominance! His "conflict", therefore, to my mind was needlessly manufactured drama/angst. But this is a minor quibble.
I thought the Tessa character was wonderful. I like stories where the female protagonist is a woman who knows her own mind, is confident in herself, and lives life on her own terms. The three males - Wade, Connor, and Dallas were also great. Each is different in looks and personality, and of course, all are smoking hot.
I enjoyed my first foray into the world of Daire St. Denis. As I said, this was my first Daire St. Denis story, but surely not my last.
