Gone at Zero Hundred 00:00
Three childhood friends…

Cody Beck - a wannabe filmmaker, wisenheimer and flirt.
Jaden White - the star who led the high school hockey team to two championships, and was now on the A-list for NHL scouts.
OVERVIEW:
A prominent P.I. is gunned down - killed by a sniper - and it is broadcasted on live TV.
Now, her daughter, along with her childhood pal, are thrust into a complex and riveting thriller forced to take on a secret club whose members call themselves The Privileged Ones.
Murder, trafficking, and illegal underground parties.
They're chased by men in ski-masks, nearly gunned down by members of a cartel, and the only way to bring down this criminal enterprise; is to crash a Mardi Gras bash and stop their private cruise ship from sailing off into the sunset.

About the author
C.R. Hiatt
16 books154 followersCR HIATT writes action-oriented stories with strong female characters as heroes. The daughter of a military veteran, CR grew up in a small town where she became an All-American athlete. CR knew early on that she wasn't cut out for the nine to five type of job - her tendency to day dream about adventures often got in the way. But, being the daughter of a Navy Veteran she also knew one had to do what was necessary to be secure, so she disciplined herself to push those dreams aside and settled on working in the entertainment legal field. When those dreams invaded her world once again, CR finally gave in and set out to write her own adventures. What the heck, right. If you can't live 'em, you might as well write about them.
The journey started after CR interviewed big city detectives about their lives on the job; then talked with some of their victims. That resulted in her first YA series: McSwain & Beck. The novels are works of fiction, only based on real life events, but you can't help but wonder while reading the books which parts are true.
When CR isn't writing, she enjoys renovating houses, spending time outdoors, catching up on her favorite books and TV shows (dedicated fan of NCIS, Justified, Southland, Blue Bloods, Person of Interest, and Big Bang Theory) and most importantly, spending time at the campfires with her family and friends.

McSwain & Beck offer revved-up action and a never-let-up, force of two
GONE AT ZERO HUNDRED by C.R. Hiatt hits the ground running on page one and doesn't allow the reader to catch a breath till the very last page. With two likable young adult characters to root for, with a plot that zips along page after page, you've got a story that offers up plenty of revved-up action and suspense.
Once a tomboy myself, I could relate to eighteen-year-old Sydney McSwain's bravado and her bold as brass personality. When she witnesses the death of her private investigator mother on live TV, Syd is forced to step into an adult role overnight. She and her childhood friend, Cody Beck, brainstorm and decide to take over her mother's P.I. business. "No job is too big, or too small for the reluctant detectives." It doesn't take long for McSwain and Beck to get caught up in murder, intrigue, drug dealers, and a slew of car chases. All the while Hiatt makes it clear these two crime fighters are a cut above the rest without the usual teen angst. Syd and Cody are smart, cocky, willing to do anything to solve the crime and shut down the bad guys for real. And wow, does Hiatt deliver an on-fire, never-let-up force of two by the name of McSwain and Beck.
Not since Alex Rider have I devoured fiction geared for young adults with such zeal. McSwain and Beck had me sitting back and letting them take the lead on a wild ride as they worked their way through mystery and mayhem! Now on to the second book, Fireworks on the 4th!

Gone At Zero Hundred is a well-written, fast-pace mystery that involves a crime we should all be more aware of.
Eighteen-year-old Sydney McSwain witnesses her mother, a private investigator, being gunned down on a live news broadcast. Following this tragedy, Syd and her childhood friend, Cody Beck, decide to run her mother’s P.I. business. When McSwain & Beck’s first client walks through the door, little do they know what appears to be a straightforward surveillance case will lead them to a nefarious secret organization called The Privileged Ones.
Syd reminded me of Veronica Mars, but without the boy-obsession. It’s clear from page one that Syd is her own person and marches to the beat of her own drum. I really appreciated that about her, as I appreciated her courage, common decency, and compassion. Hiatt might explore headlining crimes, but she uses her main characters to portray traits that if we all possessed, or strived to possess, there wouldn’t be heinous acts for newscasters to report. Even cocky Cody is noble, and there are glimpses of the admirable man he is becoming.
Though I enjoyed Syd’s first person narrative, the parts I found especially compelling and chilling were the third person narratives where The Privileged Ones hunted. Clearly, Hiatt did due diligence in acquiring information about criminal profiles. How victims were targeted certainly rang true and hopefully will help young readers be more wise. Unfortunately, these dangers are real.

I was intrigued by the synopsis of Gone at Zero Hundred 00:00, but I still wasn't really sure what I was in for. To me it sounded like the main focus of the book was going to be 90210 meets Alex Rider with the main focus being on finding Syd's father, but my assumptions were all wrong.
I really liked the first half of this book. It was action packed and mysterious and I kept reading wanting more. So many things strange things were happening and I couldn't wait to find out what secrets these rich kids were hiding and how the different plot strands all linked up. This is a fast paced novel that is filled with suspense. There's action left, right and centre, and usually when you least expect it which makes this story all the more exciting.
I disliked the ending of Gone at Zero Hundred 00:00 because it was just too abrupt. I didn't really feel like the story had actually ended and whilst it ended on a cliffhanger, for some reason I just wasn't that desperate to find out more. There were some parts of the book that I found myself rolling my eyes at the naiivity of the protagonist, Syd, but I'll forgive her this because she had just lost her mother. Other than that, she was a fiery and relentless character whose clock never stopped ticking for the entire story.
My favourite character was Cody. He's your typical American high school hottie - homecoming and prom king, and yet he's best friends with Syd, a tomboy whose favourite outfit is a pair of ripped Levis. He's the type of guy who would stands up for what he believes in, even if that means going against the wishes of one's loved ones and I really admire characters like that. I only wish that he could've had a slightly bigger role in plot.
All in all, this is a brilliant book that will keep you curious the entire way through. There are lots of plot twists and turns and some of the most unexpected things become linked as the plot develops. The characters are likeable and you find yourself willing them on, desperate for them to prove that these 18 year olds aren't something to be messed with. Although this is a YA book, I don't see why adults who are fans of action and mystery shouldn't enjoy it to. There is nothing juvenile about the writing or the plot and it makes for an excellent novel.

C.R. Hiatt’s, Gone At Zero Hundred was an enjoyable read. I would’ve read it in one sitting if life hadn’t interfered.
Eighteen year old Sydney McSwain is the daughter of a private investigator mother. Throughout Sydney’s childhood, she’s assisted in her mother’s investigations with relentless obsession. Troubling Sydney throughout her life is the mystery of who fathered her? Her mother is not on the subject.
A series of events at the beginning of the book traumatize Sydney, and pull her into her own investigation of the step-brother of a model who feels he’s stealing from her. Sydney and Cody, an amateur movie maker, computer whiz and fellow sleuth, begin to investigate.
But all is not what it seems. At first it appears he’s working nights at as a bar tender at a private club, but his role there might be more sinister. Lawyers at a powerful law office, shootings, and possibly crooked cops dog Sydney’s and Cody’s attempts to find out what’s going on.
This story moves forward at a brisk pace with efficient writing. Ms. Hiatt has created authentic characters who actions and motivations are believable. Written in first person in Sydney’s point of view, this reviewer was amused by Sydney’s thoughts on the people she encountered, and her interactions with Cody, and Jaden, another male friend.
The only negative thing I can say about the writing is I would’ve liked to have seen more of Sydney’s thoughts towards young men. There’s a hint something might develop between her and Cody, or possibly Jaden, but Sydney goes through the story without any quixotic thoughts about guys. It may be eighteen year old tomboys may think as Sydney does that this middle aged male doesn’t realize.
Gone At Zero Hundred’s ending will make you want to read the next in the series immediately. I’ll be reading it very soon and then waiting for Ms. Hiatt’s next book.

I always loved mystery and action books but I can't believe how intense this book was! Syd and Cody were the perfect match together! It totally reminded me of Bones and Booth. They were both real, sexy, and funny. I think Syd got some Catwoman gene in her! WOOT! She was reckless, and dangerous. The characters got major awesome sass! I totally wish I can be more like that! The romance between Syd and Cody was low in this book, but you know that there is something there, and it would grow.
The plot was a thrill ride for sure! It felt like I was watching some DC Comics cartoon but less predictable. There were many layers to this book. I totally felt I was attach in every single possible way with the characters and the plot. A lot of the time I felt like I had to hold my breath because I was so afraid. One more plus about this book was that the chapters are short! YAY! The story was definitely fast paced. I really don't enjoy books that dwindle on emotions and thinking a lot, especially over something so stupid. This book was definitely not boring.
Sorry for not having not a lot to say. I just can't describe how awesome it is. And I really don't want to give away much! I definitely would recommend this to more of the male readers because the romance is low and action is high in this book.

Full disclosure: I am a 20 year old male who normally reads graphic novels, YA action (read all the Alex Rider and Cherub series when I was younger). Now I mostly read zombie books.
The author, CR HIATT, gave me a copy of Gone at Zero Hundred 00:00, and asked if I would read it and submit a review on Goodreads.com. The only thing she asked was that I be fair.
I gave it high marks, and recommend it to anyone who enjoys action. The story wasn't bogged down with romance, the way a lot of YA novels seem to be these days. There were hints of it in the sequel, but it didn't bore me. I was interested from the start, and read the book straight through. It's an easy and exciting read that gets your blood pumping.
The book opened with an action scene, and the author kept the pace steady throughout, having something happen every few pages. The characters were fine-tuned with their back stories told through action - which I could relate to because they were my age. I also liked the way the villains were introduced, and described in a way that kept me tuned to the pages until the final showdown.
Awesome book!

I was impressed with this action packed book. Sydney is a 18 year old girl who's two best friends are boys. Cody is into computers and movie making, is full of himself and the girls are all over him. Jayden is the best hockey player in state. Sydney's mom runs a private investigation business out of the firehouse where they live. Sydney and Cody learn a lot from hanging out with her mom. Jayden is usually practicing hockey because he wants to go pro. The three of them get caught up in a case that involves murder and drugs among other disgusting crimes. There were times I wanted to kick butt myself. These three are impressive young people. The ending blew me away, I can't wait to continue my adventure with the next book Fireworks On The Fourth..thank for the next book because I'd would have gone insane wondering what is going to happen next. This series could be and should be a movie, it's that good. The plots and characters are so real we could and will fall for them kick butt sleuths. Thank you for sharing your skill with us.

Gone at zero hundred packs a real punch and keeps your fingers eager and ready to turn the next page. Sydney is thrust into the world of sleuths by fates call. Luckily for Sydney she had paid attention whilst growing up, watching her mother who was a kick- ass private eye and one of the best at what she did. Without giving the story away, Sydney has no option but to take up the role as private eye to keep a roof over her head. I really loved this character as she reminded me much of myself at the same age, independent, focused and determined. Pairing up with her friend Cody they find themselves in the dark under world of crime, deception and so much more. With her own life now at risk she puts her own fears aside to save the lives of others who need her help. Sydney is a great role model and just shows what you can achieve when your chips are down and everything seems to be against you. Fantastic read, well written and I have already downloaded the authors next book, Fireworks On The 4th.

Sydney McSwain lived with her mother, a Private investigator who got too close to uncovering something and is killed right in front of Sydney. After this, Sydney and her friend Cody Beck form a partnership where they take over her late mother’s job and begin to do some investigating of their own when they get a mysterious but beautiful client named Summer.
First off, I like that Syd is strong, yet still has a vulnerable side that makes her relatable. She is totally kick ass, but not too much so that she is like a wanna-be guy. I picture her more as a young Laura Croft type character, unraveling mysteries and facing danger head on, and using her wits and strength to persevere. I like the chemistry between her and Cody, and although there was only mild flirting, it seems like something more could happen in the future. I liked how everything came together at the end and can’t wait to see what is store for the duo next!

Gone at Zero Hundred is a most unusual mystery/thriller as the investigators, “McSwain and Beck”, are only eighteen years old. After Syd’s mom is tragically killed Syd is forced to find a means of support and decides to do the only thing she knows how to do. Little does she know what perils await when she accepts her first assignment as a private investigator.
I admit I was a bit surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. The story and characters were well developed and likable if somewhat improbable. Very entertaining and kept me reading straight through to the end. The story ends on a bit of a cliff hanger that leaves one guessing at the outcome. I look forward to the conclusion and to what mischief this unlikely pair of teen investigators will get up to next.
A fast read with non-stop action from beginning to end. Highly recommend.

I really enjoyed reading this story. When I first saw the cover, I was intrigued, and when I read the blurb, I was more interested. It's a great moving story with a good developed plot, and I believe it will keep you guessing; sure you might have some predictions beforehand on whom the bad guys are, but you just might be surprised towards the end; I know I was! The characters were very well formed, and the scenes/dialogue flowed pretty nicely. There are hard moments that the characters face, but there are humorous, and good feeling moments as well. And of course this story has action/adventure, so be prepared! There is also a hint of a possible romance, and when you read the end, you will definitely be wanting more, trust me...and good news, there is another book coming, so be ready for that, but read this one first. I hope you read this as it's a novel very much worth reading! :)

Writing a murder mystery takes a special writer and a sharp mind. CR Hiatt has this down. Her ability to pull the reader in and not let go is mesmerizing. The connection and thrill you feel for her characters as they go from one close call to another and are thrown from one adventure stunt to the next will keep you begging for more. The clues are there if they can just get them. And they are willing to risk it all to do so. Courage, strength, a quick wit and a drive for answers keeps the team on their toes and one step at a time closer to finding the truth. And don't we all want the truth?
I highly suggest anyone that loves a good mystery book to pick up this one. You won't be sorry and you won't want to put it down.

From the very first word, this book is “GO”. And I love those kind of books. Ooh, the thrill, the action, just wow. And more so when the main protagonist is a 18 year old girl. Some more wow!
This book never slows down and I adore that. It has mystery and action that is all raring to go.
And the twists and turns were amazing. Also, I loved all the characters, what fun!
It made for a short, quick read that I finished reading in one sitting.
In short, this book has it all. Go read it.

CR Hiatt did a wonderful job with this teenage thriller. The dialogue was snappy and realistic, with snippets of teen life I found very fun! I am looking forward to reading her new book.

I'll be honest, the main reason I decided to give this book a try was because the cover reminded me of the types of movies that I like to watch. Movies like The Bourne Identity, Wanted, Taken, all movies where there is some mystery and the main character has to be stealthy and solve the puzzle with out getting shot by the bad guys. The first few chapters I was worried that it wasn't going to be like those movies at all. In the first few chapters we're introduced to Sydney and her friends Cody and Jaden. She seems like any other teenage tomboy. But it wasn't until she was starting to solve the case that I really began to get interested.
I was also kind of confused for the first few chapters. Not confused enough to dislike the book, but I just wished that all the subplots were connected more early on. Here are all the things the reader is trying to figure out in the first half of the book.
1. How come every few chapters are about a teenager being stalked and kidnapped?
2. Do Cody and Sydney have feelings for each other?
3. Who is Sydney's dad?
4. Who is the guy Sydney is paid to spy on and what is he up to?
5. Who killed her mom?
6. Why was her mom helping that girl?
7. Why does the one cop give her the creeps?
8. What is that rich family up to?
And the list goes on. While it was hard to keep everything straight, it also made it impossible for me to stop reading because I needed to know all the answers!
The second all the answers started to come out and plot points started to connect together I was so excited. It was pretty genius and very much like those movies that I mentioned earlier. I was holding my breath hoping Sydney and Cody would make it out of their missions alive.
The writing was so suspenseful and a perfect combo of dialogue and action. Sometimes books of this genre are only action and the characters don't develop a lot or they only have inner dialogue. It was kind of weird that sometimes it was written as a story and other times it was like the narrator was talking to the reader.
I loved Sydney's character. She's a tomboy and hangs out with two guys all the time. Reminds me of my senior year of high school. I was not a tomboy at all, but I had mostly guy friends. It was fun to see their relationships and how I was able to relate. Also I loved that romance was not the main focus of this book. And there was no insta-love or love triangles.
I finished the last page of the book and was frantically looking for more pages. I couldn't believe that it was over with a few important questions unanswered. I think the author is writing a sequel called Fireworks on the 4th . I can't wait to read it! Overall, if you're into action packed books or movies this is definitely something I'd recommend.

Disclaimers: I received this book for review as part of the Reading Addiction Blog Tours. For more information, see the disclosure at the bottom of this post.
My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I had never heard of this book before being asked to review this book for the blog tour. I looked at the cover, the synopsis, and then realized it was about teenage private investigators and so I gave it a shot.
C.R. Hiatt created a compelling world with lots of intrigue. I constantly felt the wheels turning in my head as I tried to piece all the information together to figure out who was really the villain.
Hiatt also created characters that I absolutely loved. Sidney was a character that I could relate to and one that I was rooting for. Cody was the best friend (and maybe more if you trust Sidney's mother's take on the situation) who you loved shaking your head at. The friendship between Cody and Sidney made for an enjoyable read. I also really liked their friend Jaden, but you didn't learn a whole lot about him in this novel. From the few pages I've read of the next novel, it appears like that might change in the sequel.
I've mentioned that I loved the plot, the characters, and now let's talk about the novel in terms of style and writing. C.R. Hiatt's writing was fresh and I sincerely felt like I was in the character's minds. This novel was told mostly through Sidney's mind; however, there were a few other perspectives brought up in the novel. Her writing lent to realistic characters that I loved reading about.
However, while I liked her writing style on the whole, there were some occasions where I felt like the text jumped ahead too quickly or else lagged behind. There were a few pacing issues and a few moments in the text where something caused me to momentarily disconnect with the novel or made me pause and think 'could that really happen?'. But those moments were few and the rest of the novel made up for these few moments.
Overall, a great start to an intriguing series.

“Their lives were in the hands of two 18 year-olds…”
Gone at Zero Hundred 00:00 was a wonderful book full of surprises and packed with action. I don't read a lot of action novels, but I enjoy reading them once in a while. This book really was worth the time it took me to read it.
I was amazed by the characters. They were great, and not some lame stereotypes. The girl, Sydney, was not very girlyl, but more of a tomboy. She definitely kicks ass! Then there was her a) hot, and b) great fighter bst friend Cody. He loves filming and photographing, which is why his parents kicked him our. He lives in the house of Jaden, the third, and last, one in the friend group. Together they form a marvellous trio of teenagers that might be able to arrest some major criminals...
The plot of this book sounded very promising, and it was just like I expected it to be. There was only one empty spot; no(t much) romance. Not that I am a 100% romance lover or something, but I just like to have some in every novel. But I get it, action and romance isn't always the best combination... Still, I was okay with it because of the whole story. Some teens who kick ass and save the world from criminals always are great to read about -this explains my obsession with Anthony Horowitz' Alex Rider series- and I adored all characters.
It was very well-written and easy to read. However, sometimes it was just so easy to read for me. As a Dutch girl that's still learning English, I am used to having a hard time reading novels because of the use of difficult words. This book was so easy to read... Maybe I'm just getting better at English. That would be great :)
A book I'd recommend to all teens that love books packed with action, mystery and humor. You will not be disappointed.
I give this book 3 stars!

I picked this book up thinking I could use a good adventure. The cover, the title, the synopsis all lead to an adventure and I got an adventure. This book was thrilling, exciting, and full of action, mystery, and attitude.
The story revolves around a girl, Sydney McSwain, and her best friend, Cody Beck. After graduation when tragedy strikes, they decide to take over her mother’s private eye business. This decision leads to them getting chased, beat up, and shot at, not to mention they solve the big mystery and bring the baddies down. Sounds like so much fun.
Sydney is an amazing heroine. She is very snarky, which I love, very independent, courageous, cunning, and very sneaky. Her mother taught her well in the business and she starts off the business better than your average PI. Cody is sexy, funny, smart, and a real flirt. They make a very odd couple but their friendship works. They back and forth banter had me laughing out loud on many occasions.
Sydney and Cody are thrown into a mess of crime when their very first client walks in the door asking for surveillance detail on her step brother. Form that moment Sydney’s life gets very interesting. In the process of staking out her target she stumbles on to some very heavy things and has to connect all the pieces. She and Cody never hesitate when it came to solving the mystery.
There were events in the story that were over the top but somehow it fit. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first started the book. I have not read to many crime books. I am sure this will be the start of many as it was a blast to read. The story was really easy to get into. It’s your average teens being kidnapped, breaking and entering, and murderous plot, but with the added bonus of McSwain and Beck. It was a fun ride and I really enjoyed reading this book. I look forward to the next installment.

This was such an action packed, fast paced book that I had trouble putting it down.
Sydney McSwain is a sassy and highly intelligent teenager who unfortunately witnesses the murder of her mother on live television. She manages to pick herself back up and soon realises that it’s up to her to step into her mother’s shoes and keep her private investigation business going so that she can try and discover who her mother’s murderer was.
Sydney’s best friend, Cody Beck, comes on board as her partner in the investigation business and the two of them got caught up in a major underground crime world that is filled with danger and people who are not what they seem.
Sydney was a great female lead character and I thought it was so refreshing to read a book with a female lead that was self-reliant and not just totally focused on a love interest or other shallow pursuits. She actually reminds me a lot of a younger Stephanie Plum from the Janet Evanovich novels as she doesn’t let anything get her down and is ultra determined to move past any hurdles that are thrown her way.
I loved the short, fast chapters of this book but did sometimes feel that some parts were a little disjointed due to them being so short and rushed. I also felt that some sections were a little 'over-described' and this made me feel a bit bogged down in superficial details now and then. This wasn't very often though.
Overall though I found it a very enjoyable read and the cliffhanger ending means that I can’t wait to read the next instalment just to see what happens.

Gone at Zero Hundred 00:00 by CR Hiatt is an action packed thriller in the same vein as James Patterson, but written for young adults. The story was action-packed, edge-of-your seat entertainment. The story is about 18 year old Sydney and her friends Cody and Jaden. Sydney’s mom, a PI that has been working with the police to uncover a dirty cop, is murdered. Sydney witnesses it live on TV. She decides to take over the family business, as she and Cody have been working there anyway.
Sydney and Cody get their first case, along with a mysterious phone call from one of her mom’s previous clients. The two are somehow connected and lead Sydney on a wild journey, constantly putting her in peril – much to the chagrin of the cop who has been a mentor and father figure. In the end are Sydney and Cody in over their heads or can they save the day?
I really liked the main character, Sydney. She is witty and easy to like. She is fearless, curious and wants to do the right thing despite the hardships she’s faced with the recent death of her mom. Her friend and partner Cody is a good secondary character. He is caring and seems like fun – even though he constantly has a camera to his eye trying to film crazy shots.
CR Hiatt's writing style is perfectly paced and easy to read. She really kept me guessing. I will definately be reading more by CR Hiatt and I will be recommending the book to many. I am dying for the next book in the series – I really want to know who Sydney’s father is!

Who at age 18 didn't feel like they were invincible and were going to live forever? Who wouldn't feel the weight of guilt for arguing with a parent in the AM and then losing that parent the same day? And who wouldn't take over their mother's business as a means of support when there was no other means of support? Fortunately Anna McSwain had taught both her daughter Sydney and her friend Cody Beck well in the mundane and safer issues of private investigation. They had listened and learned well and were willing to takeover the business in her absence. Two eighteen year olds were well in over their heads. With one detective on the local police force as a trusted friend, they set out to do PI investigations. Their first client however, hired them to investigate her brother, David Klein. This case was directly related to Anna McSwain's death, unbeknownst to our sleuths. There is danger, action, shootings, murder, kidnapping and human trafficing and a lot of puzzle pieces begging to be put together!
I enjoyed the book immensely. Mysteries have become on of my favorite genres and CR Hiatt has become a new favorite author. I loved how she kept Sydney McSwain tough and "relentless" and yet tender hearted to feel the suffering of the trafficed 16-20 year olds!

Syd McSwain (main character) was easy to empathize with. A very likeable girl, typical teenager in some ways, and not so typical in others. She's a sort of contemporary Nancy Drew type character.
The plot was good: Her mother, a PI, is gunned down during a very high profile arrest and Syd and her friends watch it live on a morning news broadcast. It's the day Syd graduates from high school. With the help of a couple of friends, and under the watchful eye of a family friend who happens to be on the police force, she sets about to find out who killed her mom.
In the process of wrapping up her mom's cases, she runs across a file from a case her mom was working. A mystery girl mentioned in the file contacts Syd, and she agrees to meet her. It almost costs her her life.
The plot is good. But there were moments when I felt like I was watching Scary Movie--as in, don't go there alone! Don't trust him! Look behind you!
It's evident early on that there are dirty cops involved.
The end was pretty big, and even though kind of fantastic, it did hold the action and suspense till the end.
Overall, 4 1/2 stars. I always round up, so this gets five from me.

I read this book as part of a blog tour hosted by Reading Addiction Blog Tours for C.R. Hiatt. I first agreed to do it because I love a good mystery and adventure. This book did deliver such a story. This book kept the pace and was a quick read. The chapters are quick and not too long, making the story fly by. The mystery and plot was developed very well. A lot is going on, but the author does tie it up nicely at the end. However, she doesn’t finish everything in the end as there is a follow up book.
Sydney and Cody are the main characters. They are great friends and work well together. Their personal interests combine very well throughout the story. Another character I did enjoy was Detective Carter. He was the comfort of the law enforcement side to the entire story. I enjoyed his character so much I hope we see him in the next book.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was a great story. Plenty of action and suspense on every page. And a reminder...not everything is wrapped up because there is a second book to be published soon.

Review from Read that also
Reality is not a strong point of this book. But who cares? This is a read where you sit back, relax and breeze past the pages. You just have to know what next before putting it down. The surprise elements are nicely strewn along the way and they develop wonderfully, without hindering the flow of the read. Swain’s mystery of the by invite only club Devil’s door is left at the peak before the narrative jumps to Bradley Johnson. And the privileged ones. An effective technique in building tension. And lo, there comes Tamara, her mom’s client, shot dead in an alley.
The pace and flow of narration makes this an interesting read. There is excitement and the book manages to hold on to the tempo well. I was suspicious if the author would be able to pull of the multiple plot lines into a satisfactory ending. Well, my doubts were completely unfounded. Ending was fit to the pace and tone of the rest of the book, with just enough set aside for a sequel.

GONE AT ZERO HUNDRED by C.R. Hiatt was a fantastic read. I breezed through this in three sittings. The chapters were short, which I loved, and the pace fast. I found myself up way past my bedtime saying, "just one more chapter, just one more chapter." I really didn't want to put this down.
Sydney McSwain is a tomboy with sass, but she has to grow up real fast on graduation day when tragedy strikes in a highly traumatic and emotional way. From there on the pace and mystery really start to pick up speed and it never slows down.
Sydney is a fun and dynamic character and when she teams up with her childhood friend Cody and family friend detective Carter, her mother's private investigation agency gets that much more exciting. I already picked up the second book in the McSwain and Beck series and I can't wait to read it!
I highly recommend this book for anybody who loves a strong, young sleuth with a nose for trouble. Pick up your copy now, you won't be disappointed!!

I have to say I don't usually read YA stories. But when I read the synopsis of this one, something caught my imagination and I had to read it. I read the book in less than two days which shows how the story grabs you.
When Sydney McSwain's mother,a private detective working on a pension fund scam involving local law enforcement officers, is shot while making a routine arrest, Sydney has to pick up the pieces of her life, and decides to pick up her mother's mantle and carry on the family business. What they don't know is her mother was involved in a large and very dangerous case and soon the plucky trio are in over their heads and sinking fast. The protagonist is written with a lively voice and the story is relentless as the mystery deepens. Soon bullets start to fly and Syd learns the hard way that being a private detective is a lot harder than it looks on television!

What a rollercoaster of a book!! I was GLUED to it!! The two main characters are thrown into a murder-mystery. The chapters are not too long, so it was an easy read. I was a bit skeptical, as it’s listed as a YA book, but I was very happy with the content! Hence, don’t judge a book by it’s cover! So if YA isn’t your cup of tea, but you like murder-mystery and lots of action, you just may want to give this book a try! I can’t wait for the second book to come out. I may even have my teenage son read Gone at Zero Hundred.
The characters and the story line were very well thought out and really flowed with the book. This book would make an awesome movie! I can’t wait to read more from C.R. Hiatt!!

Not what I expected after reading the reviews. it's NOT a young adult book it is an adult book written about young adults.
Looking at the age of the reviewers I can see most are over 25. My friends would not like this book, the plot is ok but lacks good action, trying too hard to be romantic like Twilight or Hunger games. This is the lowest rating I have ever given a book I regret the time I wasted to read it. This should not be marked as young adult. The author can put a book together but can not pull in a reader aged 13-15. Just adults who think they are reading YA.
Other points the backpack was left in the car and then a few minutes later it was used to hit something with? Really! How did that happen?

What a great story! I thoroughly enjoyed this book by CR Hiatt. I felt an immediate understanding of the main characters and loved the way the book flowed. Enough background at the start to take you into the action which is based around a well thought out plot. The main character, a young detective, does an amazing job on her first, big case unearthing a sinister plan in the process. A heroine with attitude is what you get and I was left impressed by her tenacity and grit. You'll be willing her on to succeed in her endeavours and will be left wanting to know what happens next. An excellent read for young adults and adults alike. Highly recommended.
