Young Syaoran embarks on a worlds-spanning adventure to restore the memory of the most important person in his life, the princess Sakura– even though he knows that she’ll never remember her love for him. The trail leads to a small town reminiscent of Europe at the turn of the nineteenth century, a place where the ghostly image of a golden-haired woman comes in the night to steal the town’s children. Syaoran and his band of outrageous friends–affable Fai D. Flowright, loose cannon Kurogane, the odd creature Mokona, and Sakura herself–mount their horses and venture into forbidding, barren woods to solve a mystery, rescue the children, and retrieve one more piece of Sakura’s missing memories.
CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.
In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.
In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.
After getting another feather, Sakura's memories return. It was heartwarming memories and it was so sad that she doesn't remember Syaoran being part of her memories. I am excited about New dimensions and world's they are going to travel. Next world is Jade, Europian country in 18-19 th centuries. Probably England it seems. And here is mysterious princess who kidnaps children. This fairytale like atmosphere is exciting. I wonder what will happen next.
Syaoran is so cool! He kicks a rifle into the air without hesitation. He has so much skill, I wonder how much more impressive he'll become. Karogane is mad, too, catching the rifle and pinning the assailant and stating one of the coolest lines with so much swag: "A man who points a weapon should be prepared to die by one." So cool! Can wait to see how the gang finds and saves Sakura and the kidnapped children!

After passing through a world of cities too small for them, Syaoran and his friends enter a town that fears for the lives of their children, as they continue to be led to an old castle where a spirit draws them via the power of a mysterious feather...CLAMP will keep readers intoxicated with atmosphere and secrets promising a supernatural adventure. Could one of Sakura's feathers be the cause of so much pain amongst the townsfolk?
I very much prefer character stuff to stand-alone stories so I didn't like the horror part with the Princess as much as the first story in the volume. In this book, we learned some things about Shaolan but to be honest, I like Fye and Kurogane better and especially Fye. He's so mysterious!
Tsubasa is in a way a love letter to all of CLAMP's other works. I went into this having read almost all - definitely all relevant - series by CLAMP, so I can't say for sure, but I think this series is only half as fun if you haven't read the other works (preferably all). If you enjoy Easter Eggs and cameos, Tsubasa is an absolute treat.
For the longest time, Tsubasa was the longest manga series I owned; anything beyond 10 volumes makes me think twice as I find that most lengthy series just drag unnecessarily. However, it was impossible for me to say no to Tsubasa, Sakura and Syaoran from Cardcaptor Sakura have been long-time favourite manga characters of mine, not to mention that I am generally very fond of CLAMP and all their big and small crossovers. Reading a story that combines almost their entire bibliography and with Sakura and Syaoran as the main characters was too good to say no to. It should also be mentioned that this series is heavily interwoven with xxxHolic's plot and should best be read alongside each other.
This Syaoran and Sakura are not the same from Cardcaptor Sakura (although the original Sakura makes a cameo). In essence, this is a story about travelling between dimensions - the same person can exist in different versions of themselves in different universes. Sakura and Syaoran travel between the different worlds - all very different - and meet characters and elements from all across CLAMP's other works. In fact, some characters appear more than once to highlight how the same being can exist and lead a different life in different worlds. It's really fun to see the characters from other stories living different lives, some are funny and some are bittersweet. CLAMP has killed off a fair amount of its characters in other works so it's nice to see some of them leading happier and peaceful lives.
In addition to meeting a whole lot of known characters, there are also a couple of Tsubasa original characters such as Fay and Kurogane who accompany Sakura and Syaoran on their travels. I've grown to love Fay and Kurogane almost as much as I love the other two - so while Tsubasa is very much a homage to other CLAMP works, it's also a very character-driven story with both Fay and Kurogane having intricate and deep personalities. I also have to express my apologies to Kurogane - I always expected not to like him because I'm not very fond of brawns-over-brains type of characters, but I was very wrong about him; great character, smart as well a strong and just a really great guy.
Being a work of CLAMP, it's almost needless to say that the art is beautiful. That being said, this is more of a shounen-esque series which also shows in the art with the somewhat oddly length limbs and a greater focus on action, weapons and muscles. I prefer shoujo art, but the facial art is much the same as other CLAMP works so I can absolutely live with that.
A downside of Tsubasa is plain and simple that it gets confusing. There are time skips, world switching, doubles across different series (xxxHolic) and rather vague motivations from the villain's side. At some point, I just decided to go with the flow rather than trying to make sense of every detail. There's a bit of a loose end, though I wouldn't exactly call it a band ending either. Now that they are working on a sequel, it'll be interesting to see where things will lead to next.
Either way, an absolute gem if you like CLAMP and crossovers, and Sakura, Syaoran, Fay and Kurogane are just a great team of characters - to be fair, Mokona is as much part of the team and deserves a mention too. Finally, I just love these characters.
The Koryo arc ends on a satisfying note with another trio of CLAMP characters appearing in an interesting way. There’s an interlude with a lot of Sakura and Syaoran. Sakura remembers more of her past while Syaoran remembers the gaps he was once in. The two of them are making new memories, often with Fai, Kurogane, and Mokona at their side. There may not have been a feather, but everyone is able to enjoy themselves. A good thing because once their visit is finished, Mokona takes them to a far more dangerous place, the country of Jade. There children are disappearing and the ghost of a Princess Emerald (who looks like a grown-up Emeraude-hime of Magic Knights Rayearth) is believed responsible. There is, however, more to the mystery and this place than anyone thinks. It’s a delight to see how CLAMP’s characters may reappear in this series. Sometimes I enjoy the potential in the panels, like King Ashura rising from his watery prison in a shower of crystals. Or the mysterious moments related to the overall arc, like the boy in the jar dressed in Fei-Wang Reed’s colors in Fei-Wang Reed’s lair. They’re as exciting as the individual stories playing out. Yuuko’s interludes are always amusing or intriguing, communicating through Mokona. Everyone got an interesting layer of development and the mystery of this particular arc is getting more intense, leaving me eager to read what happens next.
Having gained a powerful ally in dealing with a despot, the group regains a feather and moves on to the next world. Turns out not all worlds have memory feathers in them. Seems the search for Sakura's memories will be even more of a needle-in-a-haystack challenge than previously thought.
Enjoying the different worlds the group go to! The variation is good thus far, and the dangers the group run into not all being solved by punching (or kicking) is appreciated. As much as I enjoy fight scenes, it'd get a bit repetitive if fighting was the only way for the group to solve their problems. Glad to see Sakura more in action, even if she does do the foolish thing and run off without yelling the house awake first.
The flashbacks that reveals makes the Sakura & Syaoran interactions more interesting to me. Onward to volume 5!
One of my favorite parts of this series are the authors' attention to cultural differences between the characters. I really enjoy whenever a character doesn't understand a tradition or societal norm - heck, two of them have never seen snow before! It's refreshing and hilarious. I'm also loving the little character quirks that work to develop our main cast without having to describe their personalities. Kurogane carrying around a comic book with him from world to world says a lot more about his studious nature than another character explaining it. The same goes for Syaoran and his love of the worlds and their individual oddities, and it's great to see him geek out about history and wildlife wherever they go. My only issues with this volume have to do with the pacing, which can seem a bit disjointed between panels, and some odd art style decisions, but that's more personal preference than a real critique. I'm still having fun, and am very much looking forward to the next volume!

Mokona is adorable! It's fun to see everyone all dressed up too.All the different worlds are quite fun and interesting. Again, I wish we would have gotten to see Toya and Yukito again, but thats a minor complaint. The Legend of the Golden Haired Princess is interesting as well. Sakura is a good character, I love how much inner strength she has. It is rather sad that she will never remember her past with Syaoran, but I honostly want to smack him for not telling her that they knew each other as kids and he gave those memories to Yuko in order to travel to other worlds and get the rest of her memories. I do love the group dynamics in this as well. Looking forward to the rest!
This story is about a character named Syaoran goes through a lots of different dimensions to recover the memory of princess Sakura the most important person in his life. According to the text, it states, "The smile her highness gave me... was so warm!!!" Syaoron said which means he loves princess Sakura. I love this story because it shows so much detail and explaination about the characters. One example could be when they went to a town and everyone except some people thought that they were the one's who kidnapped the children. I suggest that people that love anime or manga should read this book.

This might be my favorite volume so far. While lots is happening, the action is a little calmer, so there's more time for the characters to develop. I also really like the "fairy tale" story line running through the second half of the volume and I can't wait to see how it's resolved! Also, the running gag of Fai's names for Kurogane and the way Mokona teases Kurogane are probably my favorite little bits running in the background.
I've been really enjoying all the different worlds and the plot to recover Sakura's memories. It's actually more intense than I imagined. I thought this series would be cute and fun, but it's stressful and full of new things at every turn. I am actually enjoying it quite a lot, and the fact that one memory is not collected in each and every book, but slowly continues through them, makes you want to read more.
2.5 This was a weird one among the tsubasa chronicles for me. Finishing up in one world, and then passing through more than one after that, it felt a lot like filler, but even the filling spaces were more interesting than the mystery towards the second half. It didn't seem to have much of an arc of its own, and I found myself getting distracted and putting the book down more than once despite this being one of my favorite series.
I enjoy monster of the week plots, but I feel like they really ought to keep them contained in one volume unless they would prefer to create monster cliffhangers. I like that Sakura is taking more initiative with the situation and I look forward to her developing both as a new person and as someone who's remembering themselves.
Since I've just finished the anime, breezing through all the books knowing what's going to happen is no fun. But I admire the drawings so much. All the details and everything looks so majestic. Feels like having a hard copy of all the comics but sadly even Kinokuniya doesn't carry them anymore. :(
