Slowly, like a whisper almost blown away in the wind, two words streaked across her mind: 'Kiss me.'
Kira may have survived the eclipse, but her troubles are far from over. She's headed to Sonnyville with one goal in mind: to learn more about her parents. But with Luke and Tristan competing for her heart and Diana gunning for her head, time is running out on the search for her mother. And the closer Kira gets to answers, the more terrified she becomes. The conduits fear her, the vampires fear her, and Kira is starting to wonder if maybe they're right...

Once again Kaitlyn Davis gives us a top notch story, SIMMER is book two in the Midnight Fire series. The story takes Kira to Sonnyville where she goes to look for answers to what happened to her mother. While she is looking for answers and has her sights on destroying Diana, Luke and Tristan are there to help her. And of course, the love triangle continues. I really like were this series is going. I like how the characters are growing and the storyline continues with easy flow and fast-pace action. All I want to say is keep them coming, I look forward to the next book in the series. Don't waste any time...look for this series, you will not be disappointed!
I think I'm gonna change my own binge-read rule a little. Don't get me wrong, I still think truly binging a series is a bad idea for me, since it's harder to go from one series to the next than it is going from one book to the next. However, as long as I always read one other book in between books from the same series it should be fine. Which means I might be able to finish this series before the end of the week. Which is a little what I want because it's addictive.
In every possible way, and in this book even more than in the previous one because the love triangle that was certainly not there in the first book has made an appearance in this second book, this is a delicious almost old school YA novel. Our girl is unique, the first of her kind in a thousand years, we learn in this book. She has two handsome guys in love with her, her own feelings are a little complicated, and of course there are parent issues and other saving the world challenges.
What I liked about this book, is that we saw the world of the protectors a little more and therefore we also get more of an idea where they come from, how they see the world, how they grew up, what kind of community they have and what kind of life they have. However, we also see a lot more about the vampire community, their way of living, their parties and richness. And it's clear that we have much more to discover in the next books.
I also still love the main character in this series. In a way she's a typical teenage heroine. She considers herself stronger than she is and wants to be included in dangerous missions even though it might not be the best idea. But, in this case it's mostly because she's enthusiast and responsible and also because she knows that this is about her. The fights are because of her. The danger is because of her. Whatever everyone does it's because of her mother. And that makes her easy to like.
Kira liking Luke as more than a friend is not unexpected. She loves him as a friend and there's a spark there. Tristan accepts Kira for who she is, not what she is & ditto. I like the fact her grandfather gave her the missing pages from the book which gives her a better understanding of her history and what she very well may be or may turn into. Nothing is written in stone and the pages have a lot of supposition. Her ability to heal people and restore life is quite unusual also. Kira is very powerful and she's learning to control the power within her. I completely understand when Kira confronted Diana and ultimately what happened. There was nothing redeeming about Diana, but she did tell the truth before turning into ash. Aldrich is intriguing. I wonder what is going on with Kira's mom and why she's living with Aldrich, unless it isn't voluntary. The ending was fitting and I'm glad the Punishers razed the mansion to the ground. Kira walked away in front of Luke and Tristan leading the way. I sincerely hope Tristan doesn't get hurt more by Kira. I feel for him as if he were a real person. I am on to book 3. Happy reading!

I bought this book last night before going to bed. I woke up this morning and started reading, and could not stop! So, my husband is coming home to a messy house and no clean laundry today... Ms. Davis' books should come with a maid service. Anyhoo, this story gets better and better. If you are looking for an engrossing series with a strong heroine and a couple of hot gentlemen vying for her attention, do yourself a big favor and pick up Ignite and Simmer.
the book starts off with tristan and kira's relationship that has been growing as well as the growing threat towards kira as diana leaked out to other vampires that kira is a mixed breed of conduit which would offer the vampires an immunity towards both punishers and protectors.luke is starting to have feelings for kira and she can sense his thoughts and read it at times and its only confirmed during their trip to sonnyville, the community for the protectors.kira meets her grandparents,of which her grandfather is one of the council members and he slowly comes to accept her when she saves the whole protector community from the vampires when it is attacked after tristan warns her about the attack.he hands over the missing pages of the book that kira read and she spots diana, follows her and learns that tristan's maker is still alive and that her mother is with him for the last ten years where aldrich insists her mother has been with him of her own free will.was an interesting read and kept me hooked

Simmer Book Two of the Midnight Fire Series By Kaitlyn Davis
Kira was born with a special ability she is able to harness the power of the sun and use it to defeat vampires. Kira travels with her guardian and best friend, Luke, to Sonneyville home of a large group of protector conduits to hopefully learn how to control at least half of her powers since she is the only person alive who was born to a protector and punisher the two factions within the conduit community. Once Sonnyville is attacked by vampires who are after her she decides it is time to put an end to it and goes after Diana the one who has initiated the hunt for Kira, if she is able to capture Kira and drink her blood she will be immune to both factions powers.
Kaitlyn Davis writes some of the best action scenes I have come across in a young adult book; they are fast paced and so well delivered making this more than just a silly romance. With this book we get to see more into Kira’s character and her family life in general we also get an introduction to her mother’s family which doesn’t turn out so wonderful to begin with. The overall book is fantastic like I said great action but also the romance is intense but when Kaitlyn Davis throws a monkey wrench into Kira’s relationship with Tristan you can’t help but wonder if she should really be with someone else. Even if you are not a fan of vampire romances I would give this one a try it is not your average series.
This is no Twilight copycat. I enjoyed this book more than Ignite (book 1). The only reasons for this is that it started fast and stayed exciting pretty much throughout the whole book. Also the writing and editing where better. In this story Kira has one thing and one thing only on her mind. Where is her mother and could she really still be alive? Kira is summoned by the council to Sonnyville, the conduit community that her mother is from. Luke her best friend is also from there and accompanies her. There the two continue Kira's training and she soon discovers she has another gift. She can read Luke's mind. Just his, no one else's which confuses her. She also discovers that Luke has feelings for her that go beyond the best friend title. Meanwhile Tristen, Kira's boyfriend who just happens to be a vampire is out hunting for Diana , the evil vamp who holds all the answers about her mother. Vampires are out to get her the conduit doesn't know what to make of her. Then there are the Grandparents she so desperately wants to get to know who have shunned her all her life because her parents love was forbidden. Tristen discovers that vampires are gathering in Orlando. Are they there for Kira or something else? That is something you are going to have to find out for yourselves. There are some awesome battles in this book. I will tell you that much. I'm really looking forward to reading Blaze book 3 of this series. Thank you Kaitlyn Davis for writing such a unique and exciting series.
I recently read the first book in this series, Ignite, and while I had been disappointed with the unedited quality of it, I was interested in following the story through with Simmer.
I was pleasantly surprised by the change in quality between the two books. While the grammar and spelling weren't flawless in Simmer, the mistakes didn't distract me from the story.
I like the direction this series is going. While some parts were predictable and very typical of the genre, I found overall that we learned more about the conduits and the characters. While I still tend to see Kira as being a little too predictable, by the end of this book, I could see things might change, and she might move forward and take on more responsibility.
Some of the new elements introduced about mixed breed conduits were definitely interesting, and I'm hoping to see these come into play more moving forward.
Overall, this was reasonably good and a quick read. I enjoyed it considerably more than the first book of the series, and I hope the series continues to improve moving forward.
The book Simmer was a really good story. I like how her powers grew stronger. She learned to controlled them when she had killed Diana. It was awesome to see Diana beg for her life when Kira was killing her. She was real nasty bitchy vampire. I say she deserved to die. I did enjoy every moment of it. I know your Midnight Fire Series are way different from Stephanie Meyer's Twilight Saga series. The only thing that reminded me of Twilight was when Kira falls for a vampire name Tristan. Her best friend Luke is like Jacob to me. He is the best friend who can't have Kira. He and her are the same. Come from same people. I love reading this book. I was so excised to read this book to the end. I enjoyed it.
All I can say is Wow!. This book was so much fun to read. There were times when I laughed out loud until I was in tears for laughing so hard. The mental image of the tall dark Tristan with a t-shirt of a puppy in a Darth Vader costume was too much. I laughed until I cried. It happened again with the mental picture of tall lanky and somewhat goofy Luke stripping in a thong to pay for food made me lose it again. I love that the main characters have evolved so much. The passion between Tristan and Kira is amazing. This installment was so exciting and intense with great twists. There is a great balance of intensity and humor. I really could not put it down. I finished this book in one day. I loved it.
The protagonist is a Mary Sue--super-powerful, with a huge destiny and two perfect boys in love with her. She's never in any real danger because her powers are so strong, and she can instantly heal people, even large numbers of people, so no one around her is in danger, either.
I thought things were going to go to a very dark place and I would have relished seeing that happen, but I feel the opportunity was squandered at the end and nothing really worked out.
I liked it enough, i just hate love triangles. I will probably read the next one and see who she chooses. But she better choose quick because i have no patience for stupidity.
In this second book in the Midnight Fire Series, Kira has graduated from high school and now will be leaving for two months to train. She will be learning how to use her powers. She will also be away from Tristen. Tristen plans to be spending the time looking for Diana. Kira comes face to face with what remains of her family. The reception she gets is a bit disappointing. She realizes she doesn’t fit in here either. Her powers are growing and there are secrets being kept about what she is and what she can do. She also thinks her mother is alive. Diana hints about the possibility and she is also planning something big. Vampires attack Sonnyville where the Conduits live. Kira and Tristen pair up with Luke trying to figure out what is really going on. The vampires have captured conduits and have been holding them. It is Luke’s job to find out more. Kira is looking for information about her mother. Tristen is determined to stop Diana before she hurts Kira. New players come forward and Kira isn’t sure what to believe. All she knows is she has to do what she needs to do. This book picks up where the first left off. Kira has recovered and needs to learn control. The author separates her from Tristen momentarily when she goes with Luke to learn more about the Conduits and her powers. It seems the logical next step. However, I don’t like how Kira feels about Luke. Her confusion was irritating to me. I hate reading about triangles and I hope the author doesn’t explore that direction. Tristen and Kira already have enough against them. I don’t want to see Luke get in the way. I did like that Kira’s grandfather gave her missing information. She learns more about herself which threw some twists into the plot. Diana was a major enemy but she learns that is the least of her problems. You meet a powerful character at the end that left me thinking about who he was to Kira. I have formed a theory or two and can’t wait to see if I’m right in my guesses. It was a great read. I give it a 4 out of 5.
Absolutely loved! Kira's adventure continues and with more discoveries comes more mysteries. I love the pace and twists and turns and am constantly eager to turn the page. I do, however, feel a little bad for BOTH Luke and Tristan...I mean, they are both great guys and I totally understand Kira's mental conflict over them. While I know who she ends up with because of Midnight Ice, I'm still attached to both guys at this point and my heart is already sad because one of them is going to get hurt no matter what. But I'm pumped to learn more about her mother and see how the saga continues!
Kira has to travel to Sonnyville to face the conduit council and get some further training. She’s hoping to find out more about mother (whom Diana hinted was still alive). Luke and Tristan are still competing for her heart. She already is in love with Tristan but doesn’t know if they have a future. And she has developed a very special connection to Luke.
How did Kira pass her classes and graduate if she’d been in a coma for two months?
Fave scenes: Kira playing with the kids at Sonnyville and Tristan jumping out of the car.
A good continuation of the series. Kira and Luke make their way to Sonnyville so that she can learn more about conduits. Tristan follows later with news of Diana's machinations. Conflicts and combat abound. Hints of the future leak out. The end is mildly satisfying, but, in part, a cliffhanger.
Totally liking this series. If you liked the love trio of Twilight, then you will like this book. The main character girl has two young men who love her. She has one that is goofy and makes her laugh- a good guy. She has the other one, who is dark and treacherous- who will she love? As she embarks on this journey, I guess we will find out who she really turns to- a life of immortality with a vampire or a simpler life as a conduit.
Simmer is the second book in the Midnight Fire series by Kaitlyn Davis. Like the first book, this one was predictable, but when you are writing vampires and magic it is hard to find a unique angle, but I have found books like Claudett Melanson’s, Maura DeLuca Trilogy that was able to find that unique angle. While the whole conduit thing in this series is good, building toward the point of it all is slow and kind of like waiting for an elderly woman in front of you in line who decides to pay with ten dollars in pennies. While, I get building the back story and the current story and meshing them together is important, I think that lack of real understanding about so many different things may have been improved by a little more focus on one aspect or another. That being said, another similarity to the first book was the poor editing job, although this one was a little better it still had me jerking to a stop at big mistakes. The editing job may have compounded some of the other issues because it was so poorly done.
What I liked about Simmer is again the characters. I will say it till I am blue in the face, love the characters and you get me to read on. Luke, again is a shining star that deserves so much more emphasis and would require writing Kira as not the predictable idiot that she is. I do see that a shift may be coming and with it a bigger role for Luke, which I think is needed because he is one of the most likable characters. While Tristan is the heartthrob and the vampire it is tired. I also liked the introduction of Sonneyville and finally getting into the sticky past that includes Kira’s grandparents. The town is surprisingly lost in a time warp not in its technology but in its ideologies. Another good addition is the side effect from saving Luke’s life. Kira can feel his feelings and hear his thoughts. This of course adds a whole new level of screwed when her best friend is flirting with her via mind meld and her boyfriend the vampire doesn’t know. All in all, the jury is still out on this series. I like it and will finish the series just because it is an okay story, unfortunately I don’t see it being one of those stand out series for me unless the next two books knock my socks off. I hate giving anything three stars or less so this doesn’t make me feel good.
We continue on with our story but it gets a little more intense. Kira realizes that Luke feels more for her than friendship and if she’s honest with herself, she’s drawn to both him and Tristan. There’s the complications of visiting Sonnyville and the fact that Diana is still out there and she needs to be destroyed. Plenty of action and diving further into her intense relationships.
Started this book this morning and then finished it just now! Wow this book was so much better than the first and I loved hearing all the history about the Conduits and Vampires. Although now my heart is torn as I want Luke to be happy but Tristan and Kira ARE SO PERFECT! I think the only way this will be solved is if Luke dies😬😬
Definitely read in order, or you will miss things. This book could have made a great conclusion to book 1. I see the lead character still mired emotions snd the counter parts still tugging in opposite directions.
This was the second book in this series. We find out more about Kira's powers and how well she handles them. We also find out more about her family. Would've been nicer to have more on this book, seemed to fly by compared to the first but definitely kept me interested to read the next installment
Not a "cannot put it down" read, but decent enough. Overall, I like the series and the characters. It is somewhat predictable, with only a few twists here and there, and moves at a reasonable pace.
