Hatou Manabu has a very odd friend at school named Marii Yukari. Yukari has purple eyes and a bizarre way of looking at the world: she sees all living things as robots. This has not always worked out well for Yukari, even costing her a best friend when she was younger. However, Yukari insists that the things she says she sees is true, and her vision seems to give her insight into the abilities of others.

Manabu thinks she’s just weird, but she soon realizes that Yukari has unexpected talents. Her eyes allow her to view the world in a different way, and even the police come to hear her insights. Eventually, her eyes also get Manabu wrapped up in dangerous plots, and force Manabu to not only step up and take a much more proactive role in her own life, but also to question what being a human or a robot actually means.

Bagaimana jika semua mankhluk hidup terpantul di matamu sebagai sosok robot? Seperti itulah dunia yang terlihat oleh mata ungu Marii Yukari. Satu-satunya orang yang mengetahui tapi tetap menerima Yukari adalah Hatou Manabu alias Gaku, teman sekelasnya. Gaku berusaha menerima perbedaan mereka, dan tidak menganggap Yukari merendahkan manusia, dengan menganggap mereka sama seperti benda-benda elektronik dan plamodel. Tapi, ketika seorang pembunuh maniak menyerang Gaku karena hubungannya dengan Yukari, kehidupan Gaku berubah total, yang ditandai dengan tangan kiri yang menjadi berfungsi ganda sebagai tangan, dan telepon genggam.

Diangkat dari novel berjudul sama, versi manga ini walaupun lebih sederhana dan dipermudah dengan bantuan gambar, tetap bukan sesuatu yang mudah dipahami dengan sekali baca. Narasi Gaku tentang bagaimana perbedaannya dengan Yukari pun sepertinya akan menyambung ke titik lain yang lebih merepotkan. Tapi, pada intinya, buku ini sangat bagus, terutama dari segi ide yang unik.

Agnosia ? Less like the Lovecraftian monster world the character in Saya no Uta see and more like the RPG world that character in Sekihiko Inui’s comic I forgot the title of.

So it’s from novel… ^^;

The extended ability that come with the eyes are surprising though, in a Twilight Zone kind of way.
Ignoring the extended part that say “Sequel coming!!”, the first book is closed really nice. Could’ve been a single book story.
