Darhaven toils deep in the vaults to crack the code for sending an army to Rip's world. But their subjects always appear in NeuralNet, leading to much confusion on both sides.
When Darhaven moves work to a tabulator under Calais, odd things begin to happen in the past on Rip's world. As the guns of 1914 boom, mysterious sights appear at Mons, alongside intense early fighting between British and German forces.
Rip and his team will descend into the Calais vault to stop Darhaven, but the French Army has a presence there already. Rip is left with no choice but to accompany the Foreign Legion deep into the depths . . .
Don't miss the second book in this stunning steampunk gamelit adventure! Veteran science fiction and military fantasy author, two-time Kindle Scout winner Jaxon Reed presents an exciting all-new series set in a fantastic gaslamp universe! Featuring fistfights, machineguns, gang warfare, dungeon crawls and sci-fi adventure, Steam and Aether garnered tens of thousands of reads on Royal Road and was a 2022 Writathon winner!
The crew is back for another wild adventure. Rip is his usual self as he settles in with his new team and world. But of course trouble happens and off they go to try and solve a few problems. It made me laugh and giggle and roll my eyes. And Rip's various quips and one liners were a blast as his team had no clue what he was talking about and I found that hilarious as I got the jokes. My favorite characters popped in and out and added to the fun.
I love Jaxon Reed stories. The characters are great! The story line is engaging and interesting. He doesn’t pull you out of the story with unnecessary swearing or action. Just pure storytelling excellence.
This sequel is everything I hoped it would be after finishing the first book in this series. It continues the story and follows the characters with no letdown in quality in my opinion. Now I'm waiting for number 3. This is an alternate timeline science fiction novel with a steampunk flavor. It does not have a Victorian setting. Read the original novel first. That will improve your enjoyment of this one as it a direct continuation of the story. There's lots of action. We learn more about this world. Some of it takes place in France. We also learn more about the political situation in Europe. I'm not disguising the story so there are no spoilers. Other reviews will give plot details if you want them. I highly recommend this book as well as the first novel.
More vault exploring more fighting or leveling up so to speak. The MC is quickly bringing old his earth tech to his new world. i enjoy most all of the cast and certainly the current story line. The author uses history as a focal point and it it fun. More complicated research may lead to more crossover from Rips earth. I guess we'll see how that goes in the 3rd book. I look forward to it hopefully don't have to wait long.
The sophomore effort of Jaxon Reed's Steam & Aether series is a quick paced thriller. The story of Ripley Coulter, the soldier mysteriously transported to an alternative universe, continues as he and his merry band of Royal Venture Society members work to counter the threats of Darhaven. This book does a great job continuing to flesh out the world of Greater Umbria, analogous to our United Kingdom and the differences between timelines. Ripley is well positioned to capitalize on the technology from his world which does not yet exist. Carefully introducing items such as petroleum jelly and bicycles proves enriching to him and the overall story. It gives his team a bit of a leg up as they investigate the steam vaults as they try to detemine what sort of technology brought him into this world. I enjoyed the book and look forward to the next installment.

Our hero is a soldier protecting the multiverse, but he never expected to end up in a steampunk world. Add in some time traveling and his job just became very complicated.
This is book two of the series. It does okay as a standalone, but will be much more enjoyable if read in order.
This is a science fiction action story with a steampunk setting. The story is well written and easy to read with a fast paced action plot that starts fast and builds. Steampunk settings are always fun to explore with little surprises around every corner and this one is no exception. The characters are also very well done, particularly our hero. The journey has lots of twists and turns to it that kept me turning pages to see what was coming next. Overall, a highly enjoyable story and I look forward to the next book in the series.
Highly recommended.

Book two in this fantastic steampunk adventure. With incredible descriptive world building you easily find yourself sucked into this universe as we rejoin Rip and his team on their extraordinary sci-fi journey. Trouble seems to follow them and their one liners wherever they go, as does the action, the fist fights and danger. It’s exciting, it’s fun and it’s a great second read!
