As an Aggie fan, I was very excited to find this. Wayne Estes is an Aggie legend who died too young. While an interesting story, the writing left something to be desired. I give credit to Eleanor Olson, who clearly researched her subject thoroughly, and not leaving out details that make Estes look like less than a hero. In some ways, this book was a case of getting to know your hero too well. All in all, a good read for someone looking to get some more details on Estes's life, but it definitely won't win any awards.
My Children's Lit teacher wrote this book. It's a true story. Wayne Estes was the star basketball player at USU. Everyone idolized him. He just saw himself as an ordinary guy who enjoyed playing basketball. His sudden death stirs up the athletic and college community. His legacy is carried on, he will never be forgotten.
I was particularly interested in this book since the author taught at Roy High, where I went to school, and because I used to watch Wayne Estes play basketball on television. He was a great player and a gentleman. I enjoyed reviewing his life and learned many things about a Utah State basketball legend. I still remember hearing of his tragic death on a TV broadcast.
