SYAORAN OVERMATCHED?!

Young Syaoran and his friends are on a quest to retrieve the magically potent feather-shaped shards of Princess Sakura’s memory. The search has led them to the country of Ôto, a world with the romantic feel of Japan in the early 1900s. However, another dimension traveler has shown up as well–the immensely powerful Seishirô, who first trained Syaoran. Now he and Syaoran are mortal enemies! Seishirô’s first objective is to kill Fai, beloved wizard and one of Syaoran’s closest companions. Does Syaoran, who is just beginning his training, have any hope of surviving their inevitable battle?

CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.

In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.

In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.

¿Qué irá a pasar después?

Este volumen contiene los capítulos 43 al 49.

How long have It been since I have started to this volume! I didn't got time to continue and I missed reading manga.
So, I have three problems with this one: 1.I confuse some characters. They look so alike. Like the king and now Seishiro... 2.I have problems to grasp fighting scenes. Some are very exaggerated too. 3. Sakura spends her time mostly sleeping. I would like her to be more active.
Admittedly, that plot twist was interesting. And I am afraid I saw a big spoiler somewhere and I know some twists ahead. So sad for this but I can't keep my eyes off spoilers! They are so attracting!

This had more fight scenes in it, which I don't really enjoy - especially in manga, but the concept of this world was interesting.

The facedown between Fai and Seishiro was awesome. As well as Kurogane and Seishiro's.

The foreshadowing was well done as to what was behind the Oni's weird behavior. Don't wanna give spoilers, but it was a not-so surprising twist.

Review for complete series

Tsubasa is in a way a love letter to all of CLAMP's other works. I went into this having read almost all - definitely all relevant - series by CLAMP, so I can't say for sure, but I think this series is only half as fun if you haven't read the other works (preferably all). If you enjoy Easter Eggs and cameos, Tsubasa is an absolute treat.

For the longest time, Tsubasa was the longest manga series I owned; anything beyond 10 volumes makes me think twice as I find that most lengthy series just drag unnecessarily. However, it was impossible for me to say no to Tsubasa, Sakura and Syaoran from Cardcaptor Sakura have been long-time favourite manga characters of mine, not to mention that I am generally very fond of CLAMP and all their big and small crossovers. Reading a story that combines almost their entire bibliography and with Sakura and Syaoran as the main characters was too good to say no to. It should also be mentioned that this series is heavily interwoven with xxxHolic's plot and should best be read alongside each other.

This Syaoran and Sakura are not the same from Cardcaptor Sakura (although the original Sakura makes a cameo). In essence, this is a story about travelling between dimensions - the same person can exist in different versions of themselves in different universes. Sakura and Syaoran travel between the different worlds - all very different - and meet characters and elements from all across CLAMP's other works. In fact, some characters appear more than once to highlight how the same being can exist and lead a different life in different worlds. It's really fun to see the characters from other stories living different lives, some are funny and some are bittersweet. CLAMP has killed off a fair amount of its characters in other works so it's nice to see some of them leading happier and peaceful lives.

In addition to meeting a whole lot of known characters, there are also a couple of Tsubasa original characters such as Fay and Kurogane who accompany Sakura and Syaoran on their travels. I've grown to love Fay and Kurogane almost as much as I love the other two - so while Tsubasa is very much a homage to other CLAMP works, it's also a very character-driven story with both Fay and Kurogane having intricate and deep personalities. I also have to express my apologies to Kurogane - I always expected not to like him because I'm not very fond of brawns-over-brains type of characters, but I was very wrong about him; great character, smart as well a strong and just a really great guy.

Being a work of CLAMP, it's almost needless to say that the art is beautiful. That being said, this is more of a shounen-esque series which also shows in the art with the somewhat oddly length limbs and a greater focus on action, weapons and muscles. I prefer shoujo art, but the facial art is much the same as other CLAMP works so I can absolutely live with that.

A downside of Tsubasa is plain and simple that it gets confusing. There are time skips, world switching, doubles across different series (xxxHolic) and rather vague motivations from the villain's side. At some point, I just decided to go with the flow rather than trying to make sense of every detail. There's a bit of a loose end, though I wouldn't exactly call it a band ending either. Now that they are working on a sequel, it'll be interesting to see where things will lead to next.

Either way, an absolute gem if you like CLAMP and crossovers, and Sakura, Syaoran, Fay and Kurogane are just a great team of characters - to be fair, Mokona is as much part of the team and deserves a mention too. Finally, I just love these characters.

This series is just a blast so far, so I'm going to write this review quickly before I move on to the next volume. We get a little bit a character development from Sakura - carrying over from the previous volume - which was sorely needed, as we've been gleaning most of her personality from flashbacks up until this point. The payoff for the mystery in Otou country was great, and it reminds of why I like the world-hopping theme of this series in the first place. I hope CLAMP can keep my excitement going each time our heroes enter a new world.
The action is paced much better than in previous volumes, and the cluttered panels have become a lot more spacious and less confusing. Seishirou in particular is a great villain, his kind appearance offsetting his horrible actions. I would rather not spoil the ending of his fight, but suffice to say I enjoyed how we didn't get a conclusion that tied up everything in a neat little bow. We've got a real, honest-to-god subplot!
I'm very excited to read the next volume, so I'll end it here. I'm recommending this series as far as this volume, and I don't think it'll change for a while.

I think I have now finally caught up to where I fid she'd reading up to last time I started reading the Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles series. Being reminded just how awesome it is! Still holds up! The actions scenes never fail to impress. Plot twists at an all-time high.

Can't believe Syaoran's martial arts teacher is reeking havoc in other worlds with one of Sakura's feathers in search for a way to gain immortality. Vampire twins? Sounds awesome, I hope we run into them at some point. Syaoran is so cool, knowing that he's not ready, but desperate and determined enough to unsheath his sword to try to retrieve a feather.

With oni acting strange and Syaoran's old mentor involved somehow, the group need to figure out what's gone wrong in this world. Also, where in the world (pun intended) could Sakura's next feather be? Mokona can sort of sense it, but it's both there and not there. Very strange.

The mysteries keep on piling up! I'm very curious to find out what Syaoran's forgotten past is all about and what the true motives of the villain behind the scenes is (and why the time-and-space witch has chosen to work against him). On to the next volume!

Still loving this series! The fight scenes in this one can be a tad hard to follow, as there are lots of action lines and such, but it's not too hard. The art style is nice and crisp, reminds me of Clamp's Chobits style.
Also, finally a book ended right as they left a world! I get they can't always do a world a book since it goes by pages and chapters, but still, it makes it easier to take a break if it ends like this one did.
This series is just getting warmed up!

Aku jadi pingin baca ulang Chobits pas lihat Chitose muncul sebagai project leader Game Negeri Oto. Tapi Chobits tuh genre-nya ecchii dan sekarang udah mau masuk awal Ramadhan. Hmmmmmm tahaaaan. Apa baca wiki page-nya aja ya? Aaarrggghhhhh!

To be honest, this volume was pretty fun to read. I wish the minor characters were recurring, but I know it's not quite as possible in this story. I liked the concept and the throwback to the Angelic Layer series, which I loved.

Best volume and best world we’ve visited so far. Two twists keep us engaged and a lot of action packed fights with fantastic art to keep us entranced. I do not remember where the story goes after this, around this time I stopped watching, or it stopped airing, new episodes. Volume 8 here I come

Normally don't live the battle scenes as they can become a bit confusing but they were genuinely so beautiful this time?

So many good moments, really warming up to many of these characters and the ending was so touching. Very excited for the next volume!
