This was the best in the series so far. Sarah sees her friend from the past who is in town to take care of her cranky great-uncle and make him move into assisted living. Her friend has to leave town so Sarah spends days going through junk and cooking for the uncle. She knows something is going on since things are move in the attic and supposedly no one has been there. With little help from her friend and active resistance from the uncle she solves the case.
Loved the characters, but after 10 in this series, I can almost predict what the mystery is. Sarah has to solve any mystery that comes her way. Her faith always leads her to help those around her. I have all 10 books, so I am happy to share these with a friend. Time to move on to something with a little bite to it.
This is generally a low-stress cozy Christian mystery series.
As the story opens, Sarah is working in her garden. The story is set in Massachusetts, the date is late May and and there are golf-ball sized tomatoes on her plants which means that Sarah cheats and buys fully grown plants at the Agway.
A car accident has taken the life of a young woman who has been caring for her disabled father. His niece will be making other arrangements for him but asks her friend, Sarah, to provide meals for him temporarily. Sarah is helping out by sorting things in the house and looking for the daughter's will when she discovers that someone is coming in the house and, apparently, taking things.
The mystery of who is sneaking into the house is hardly any mystery at all. It was pretty easy to guess who done it as soon as the character was introduced. While this book contains fewer of Sarah's italicized prayers than in the last one, the "be a friend" message is very heavy handed.
This book had by far the most abrupt "and they lived happily ever after" of any book in the series so far.
Sarah's college friend Suzy stops by and asks Sarah to watch over her great uncle for a few days and help sort things in his house. Suzy is going to put him in a home. Carroll's daughter, Dawn just passed away. Carrol is a very grumpy man and tells Sarah that some of his tools are missing. after a couple of days Sarah's notices things that have been moved in the attic. She finds a blue baby quilt and wonder who it belongs too. Also, her friend Irene is hanging around a lot. So Sarah is trying to solve a few mysteries. Later, Suzy does not come back when she said she would come back. Does Sarah find out who has been moving things around and where is Suzy? Also what is going on with Irene? Read this good book to find out.
I gave this book the benefit of the doubt and gave it 4 stars because I really enjoyed the story/mystery but the author really needed to do a little research. The series takes place in Massachusetts and the time this story starts is late May. The first page states that Sarah is working in her garden and everything is doing well and the tomatoes have golf-ball sized tomatoes on the plants. This might have been true if the story was set where the author lives, in the south, but in the north gardens don't get planted, except for a few hardy plants, until near Memorial Day because of frost threat. This book mentions that they are having a very warm May, which is possible, but not many people would risk planting a garden early enough to have golf-ball sized tomatoes while it's still May.
Okay, that's nit-picking but I like realistic details. I also thought that Sarah was nosier than usual in this story. Of course, that made a good story, but for a Christian lady I thought that she pushed her way in a lot. The story deals with the return of her old college roommate, the flamboyant Suzy, who has come home to help her cranky Uncle Carroll organize his home for a move to a rest home. Suzy leaves right after arriving and leaves Sarah to deal with the very cranky Uncle Carroll. While she searches his house she notices that things in the attic keep moving, disappearing and reappearing. So she embroils herself in searching his family history and grills all his relatives.
This is one of many Patchwork Mysteries with the same main character, Sarah, the other books are written by different authors. This tale told how Sarah helped out Caroll (my grandfather's name), organize his belongings. She finds that several items get moved around and are missing. The story was a little too passion-less for me and a trifle predictable. I did enjoy the Christian aspects. However, if I was able to get another free library book, like this one. I would take it and read it. Love that free stuff.
Patchwork Mysteries #10. This one involves a grumpy old man who's grieving for his daughter and is facing the need to move because he can't afford live in help. Sarah agrees to help her old college roommate by inventorying the house and helping her uncle. Mysterious visitors in the night that they can't figure out how they are entering the house add some excitement to the task. Who are they and what are they looking for?
My neighbor gave me the first 10 books in this series. They are wonderful books filled with spiritual people that I just want to keep reading about. The books are small so they are a quick read but you always want to pick p the next one to find out what happens. My hope is that Sarah and Liam get together.
7/2/14-7/10/14 Sarah helps her former college roommate organize her elderly uncle's attic and gets involved in a mystery of the past. Someone is sneaking into the attic at night and things are going missing.
Sarah Hart is helping her college friend, Suzy Carmicheal with Suzy's great-Uncle Carroll and his house. Whew! what a cranky old man! What mystery will Sarah find? Will the tiny blue baby quilt help her quest?
