Her father’s health keeps getting worse, her brother’s marriage is in trouble and they found out that someone has been stealing money out of her father’s account leaving him with no money and in danger of being evicted. Sarah works on finding who did took the money and on a memory quilt of her father’s life.
Sarah goes to visit her father who is very ill while she is at the senior living place, she finds out he is behind in his monthly rent. After talking to the doctor she finds out that her dad doesn't have long to live. Sarah decides to make her dad a memory quilt and also, to find out who is taking money out of her dad's account. She calls her brother, James in Italy, who is in charge of the bank account with her father to have him help out find out what is going on with the account. James and his wife decide to come to Sarah's house to visit. This novel was suspenseful but also sad, and poignant at the same time. As family and friends give something towards the quilt they also tell stories about Sarah's dad. This is a really good book.
This book is number 13, and it was missing from the library at my church, so I purchased it because for some reason I thought it was going to be an important book in this series, and it was! Not spoiling it , but get a tissue. ENJOY!!!!
This one will always be both my favorite and least favorite of the series. I really fucking miss you Nan. Thanks for keeping me company while I reread your favorites and discover new ones you would love.
This book made me laugh and made me cried. I was both of my parents caretaker. I have been through those emotions too. I also have a memory quilt of my dad’s and a teddy bear made from a shirt of my mom’s. Thank you for a wonderful book.
This is book #13 in this series. The books are written by all different authors. This book really advanced the family dynamics and introduced the fact that Sarah has a brother James who lives with his wife in Livorno, Italy. I don't remember ever a mention of a brother in any previous books. This book is well-written. I noticed that the series is veering away from mysteries that actually involve quilts, although there is always a quilt in the story.
In this book Sarah receives the bad news that her 97 year-old father, always such an inspiration to everyone, has a serious health problem. A call to her brother James, who hasn't been home in a long time, brings him home to Maple Hill. Then Sarah discovers that her father's bank account has been drained. At first she suspects James, who has control of the account. However, James is perplexed too. This leads into an investigation by Sarah before it's too late- the nursing home has threatened to evict Sarah's father if his overdue bill isn't paid. Through it all Sarah gathers quilt pieces to celebrate her father's life. I was also impressed by the correct medical information and methods.
Sarah's father is ailing in the nursing home, and Sarah's brother and his wife come home to Maple Hill to be with him. There is fraudulent activity on her father's bank account, and Sarah solves this mystery while crafting a memory quilt in honor of her father and his life. This book was so very touching, I didn't want it to end. I love this series, and love how each book fleshes out the cast of characters a little more.
OK so this one was better due to the fact that we now at book 13 know the characters, but still get surprised. More family and friend surround Sarah as her father loses ground. Why and how could anyone steal from the residents of the nursing home? Sarah Hart will find out!
Enjoying this series, of which there are 27 books. If you are reading this series, you most likely anticipate what is to come. I'm on number #26 and it's good!
A Quilt of Memories is #13 in the Patchwork Mystery series, and I have to say it is my favorite so far. Not because it is an outstanding cozy but rather for the sweet poignancy Eckhardt has written with the loss of one of the main characters. Sarah Hart, professional quilter and quilt restorer, is once again caught up in a mystery. But this time the mystery surrounds her 97 year old father who has lived in Bradford Manor Nursing Home for many years. Apparently his identity has been stolen and someone is using his checking account and has cleared it out. Now there is possible eviction from the nursing home as he has missed a monthly direct payment for the nursing home. Meanwhile, William has suffered several TIA's and is not doing well.
Without wanting to give much away, Eckhardt wrote a beautiful scene of peace, reverence and faith that definitely brought tears to my eyes as one of the major characters of this series is called home to be with Jesus. I am sure this book will be the one I remember the most out of this entire series.
