Fans of Rodrick and Löded Diper will enjoy this installment as the band attempts to make it big. For me, however, the story elements didn't click into place as they should have to make me laugh. The actions seemed mundane and lacked the comedic style of previous books - the scenes were set, but the characters and antics were too tame. Instead of seeing and reading what the characters were doing, it was a lot of reading about what they could do.

Also, despite this being a book about Rodrick and his band, I still wanted a mention or two of other usual characters like Manny and Rowley. I did enjoy many of the drawings, they were often more amusing and told a better story than the actual words. An appropriate and anticipated addition to the series, just not one I enjoyed as much as others.

I love this series. I will buy this book for myself and kids and I 100% know the reasoning behind the title spelling. But did you really need to punish librarians, booksellers, and parents who will try to search for the book in library catalogs and databases?!?

I wasn’t expecting the book to focus almost entirely on Rodrick with very little Greg, but after fifteen years of these books, it makes sense. Not exactly what I read Wimpy Kid for, but still fun, and I liked the kids at the bar mitzvah going crazy for the band.

I was pretty hyped for this, knowing that a Löded Diper-centric book would have a lot of Rodrick in it. But... this was pretty boring. I didn't find it overly funny, Greg and Rodrick didn't even really seem to interact all that much. The only "highlight" - and I use that term super loosely in this context - was the reference to Garbage Pail Kids. I'm a millennial, I love anything that invokes nostalgia. BUT I HATED GARBAGE PAIL KIDS WITH A PASSION, AND I STILL DO. THEY TERRIFY ME. EVEN AT ALMOST 40 THEY ARE SCARY AND DISGUSTING. So I was torn at the reference, because it was amusing but it made me think of the source material and blechhhhhhh.

ALSO I'm a little sad that I don't buy these books any more, because this one comes with a Löded Diper sticker and I kind of really want it lmao.

This book wasn’t as great as the other Diary Of A Wimpy Kid books. I really struggled to finish this book, despite reading on and on, I really couldn’t enjoy it. The book doesn’t feature characters such as Manny Heffley, Rowley Jefferson, Susan Heffley or Frank Heffley, these characters are part of Greg’s life without them the book is tedious. Greg begins with his thoughts on fame although he doesn’t want to be famous, he decides to be best friends with a possible one. The book focuses on Rodrick’s passion for his rock band and he enters a competition “Battle Of The Bands”. The whole book focuses on Rodrick trying to get his band famous by different attempts. The storyline was weak and the focuses on Rodrick, Greg and his band was boring. This book dragged on and on!

This is a disappointment of a DOAWK book, usually rare from Kinney but increasingly common as the series progresses. Once again, he casts aside the grounded setting of a middle school for much zanier pastures. I’m not opposed to the idea of a book that focuses on Rodrick more than we’ve seen before, but without any new insight to his thoughts the story felt detached and impersonal. That’s not aided by a trend I’ve observed (or at least believe I have) where Kinney uses speech bubbles less and less in his cartoons, making the story-telling feel less present. The overall effect: a familiar tune, but without any soul.

Puerile? Yes. Silly? Yes. Disgusting in places? Sure - I mean look at the title, name of the band. But in for a penny, in for a pound as they say and having read the previous 16, I had to continue. Don't know if my sophomoric sense of humor will ever go away (hope not, I'm a bit attached to it after 76 years) but this series has been a lot of fun over the years. Marking this one down to average since it is probably the weakest of the recent offerings - told by Greg, but features mainly his brother and friends so many of the usual characters - Greg's family and friends - get scant attention. Many of the situations stretch credulity - where is the money coming from to fund the stunts of the unemployed band wanting to perform in a battle of the bands? Still, an interesting distraction, quick read and entertaining.

I've always wondered about Roderick's band! We never hear much about the other members, if they play many gigs, etc. And here it all is, the Full Diaper, the dirt, if you will. And Greg is witness to it all, thanks to being strong-armed into being a roadie, and then a member of the band!

This one took me quite awhile to get through. While I liked it more than the previous one in the series, it wasn’t up there with some of the ones that I have really enjoyed.

The narration was really well done again. I love that it has been the same narrator throughout the series.

I think maybe just a few too many lyrics about exploding diapers and the like. Some of them were pretty funny though.

Not quite up to par as some of the really good books from the series. I am going to continue on because I only have a couple more to go, I believe.

Highly recommend this series as a whole though for some laughs, even as an adult!! 😊.

Reminds me of a made up song I used to sing to the boys when they were babies and I changed their diapers to keep them from squirming away(sung in an Italian pizzeria accent). They used to laugh when I had my nose covered with my shirt to keep me from gagging so much (I still gagged). Though maybe that was more during their potty training days. Oh the memories.

I will go with three stars for the memories it brought back while I was typing this review!

this book series is very special to me, I started it in around 2016-2017 when I moved schools, countries, homes and left behind family and friends. But Greg Heffley helped me so much. I’m probably too old for this series now, but every time a new book comes out, I’m the first one in line to buy it. When the deep end came out, I fought over it at the school book sale with a girl I actually knew, eventually she gave it to me and now it’s on my shelf.

My favourite character in the Heffley family was probably Rodrick. So I’m happy we have a book that centres around him. I bought this book yesterday, and I’m at page 73, (im reading it slowly to make it last longer). I’ve seen reviews that say that they don’t like Rodrick as a character, and that’s why they don’t like this book, but for me it’s a point in the book’s favour <3

this is basically Rodrick’s diary but from like 3rd perspective. We didn’t see Greg basically at all, and very little to no Rowley, which I found kind of sad. But I liked the book! It isn’t the weakest entry of the series, *ive been reading some of the other reviews don’t come at me* I enjoyed it!

I've been loyal to this series since the beginning, and I do understand that I'm not the targeted demographic anymore, but the last few books have been quite underwhelming and disappointing. Kinney has the ability to write fulfilling, comedic stories, but recently it feels like he's just putting in the least amount of work into the DOAWP series because he knows whatever he writes will be published.

Diper Överlöde feels like Kinney took a story that would have taken up 10 pages in one of the older books and instead stretched it into the length of an entire book. The jokes weren't profoundly funny, and none of the popular side characters had depth, including Rodrick who not only is a fan favorite but who was supposed to be one of the main characters of the book. What made the first dozen or so novels quality, was that it felt like there was a storyline. Greg was clearly progressing through middle school while side stories would occur with famous characters like Manny, Rowley, and Fregley. Over the last five years, the storyline has focused on one event, often omitting many of the franchise's characters and stretching jokes to their limit. I know Kinney has the ability to write quality, humorous content. I just hope he doesn't continue taking the cheap route for the next few additions. If that means I'll have to wait a few extra years for a new novel, then so be it.

For those who have been waiting for a book about Roderick's band since book 2, Diary of a Wimpey Kid: Roderick Rules, this is it! Even though, it's still Greg's voice telling the story; this one is definitely about his older brother Roderick and his band.
