The Meaning of Your Life - Secular Help for the Puzzled, Disappointed or Depressed.

Rate this book
Are you puzzled about the meaning of your life? Are you disappointed by traditional answers? In this book you will discover the building blocks to meaning and find hopeful answers to your questions.

Perhaps surprising to some, is that there are many people who have spent years within their organized religious tradition only to continue to find themselves struggling with Meaning. Equally, there are non-believers -- even Atheists -- who have given themselves over to an unnecessary, meaningless pessimism. If you have asked similar questions about personal Meaning, or if you are slightly disillusioned by traditional answers, or even if you are just curious, then this book is for you. Asking questions about meaning is normal. Not only is it normal, it is also important for your continued mental well-being.

Rather than with organized religion, Meaning (and a meaningful life) is to be had in abundance within the secular world; within our very earthly and human realm. It is my assumption that, in reading this book, you are interested in learning about secular Meaning; the word secular is defined as “not pertaining to or connected with religion”.

Our meaning does not have to superficial or cliché – and meaning is not like some chocolate egg you may find during an Easter egg hunt. I also have difficulty understanding meaning as being a mere production of the mind. Equally, as I will explain, the notion that our meaning is derived from God appears to be built on shaky ground. So, specifically in this book you will find relevant insights for your meaning; insights that come from bringing together information from recent philosophical and scientific inquiry. As you read this book, your own tangible understanding of meaning will grow -- and this process may well revolutionize your life.

This book has 17 Chapters. They are filled with practical insights and answers for you to explore, and for use in your everyday life. You will discover insights into secular meaning, and related topics:

- Understanding your life’s meaning and purpose;
- Having meaning outside of organized religion;
- How to be liberated from guilt;
- How to cultivate a healthy world view;
- Meaning and sexual fulfillment;
- How to triumph over life’s apparent absurdity;
- Help for your anxiety and depressive thoughts;
- Discover what Quantum Mechanics, Epigenetics and Information Theory can teach us about our meaning.

I provide, for the average person, meaningful and up to date answers to our most troubling questions.

"Your life is too short to be restrained by B.S. Consequently, you try to appropriate truth as the foundation for what is important to you. However, foundations crack, and cracks threaten what we hold most dear. My goal is to help. I want to shore up your foundation by helping you to find meaningful answers.

My own approach is decidedly pragmatic. My writing about should be
helpful to you. For this reason I minimize technical jargon, use examples and elaborate in footnotes. I do not consciously follow any complicated philosophical system. In the tradition of Theodor Adorno I am concerned with questions on how existence could be more than a continued struggle for self-preservation. I know that we can make things better for ourselves (for those who are open and willing to learn). I also want us to make things better for those who come after.

Please think freely for yourself. It is not my intention to prescribe to
you, for you alone must be responsible for your own life. You need to
make your own way forward."
