Rod Nelson is used to being someone's good time, and that's fine with him. Spending his days at his adult toy store, Rods-N-Ends, he never knows who he'll meet. The second Landon Harrison walks in, he has Rod's full attention. It seems as if Landon wants him too, so why won't the man jump in the sack with him already? Landon never thought he'd return home to the town where memories lurk around every corner. He has to admit, Rod makes the adjustment a lot easier. He keeps Landon laughing. Despite the fierce attraction between them, he's not willing to risk his newfound friendship to get laid. Neither man wants something serious, but the more they're together, the harder it is to keep their hands to themselves, until eventually they stop trying. But flings between friends are never simple, and as they attempt to shift gears, diving into their first relationship, they're slammed with setbacks. If they want to truly move forward, before they hit the open road together, they're going to have to let go of a past that could make them crash and burn.Contains mature themes.

***5 Stars.......I loved the first book Crossroads and this was even better.....these two are the perfect mixture of sweetness and sexiness

Rod was introduced in book 1 and I just adored him.
He is the owner of sex shop and he's noticed a gorgeous man who seems to be coming into the shop more and more.

Landon has just moved back into the area. He's stuck living at home and is looking for work as a mechanic. With Rod lusting after him big time he asks Bryce ( from book 1 ) if he has any work going as a mechanic.
The two men fall into an easy friendship.Rod makes his intentions clear....he wants Landon.Landon, however, tries to keep him at arms length and thinks sex will spoil their friendship.

The attraction between them is too strong and they become lovers.
Each man is terrified of getting in to deep due to events in the past.
I thought these two worked perfectly together.Just the right amount of sex scenes, drama involving Landon's family and a bit of angst.

Really enjoyed it....would definitely recommend......

~3.5~

I have mixed feelings about this book. I did not like it as well as Crossroads, but it was undoubtedly a sexy and enjoyable read.

The MCs took turns getting on my last nerve. First it was Landon with his "I like you too much to fuck you" mantra, which I got. Sort of. Then once Landon comes through, Rod (horrible name for an MC) plays the "My daddy didn't love me and so no one will" card. And again, I got it. Mostly.

But these guys aren't teenagers. And there was a point I was over the dual pity party. The constant monologues felt recycled. We got the same thoughts a dozen times over. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Landon apologizes for walking out at the end, but I felt like Rod should have taken at least some of the blame. I can't fathom keeping a secret like that from my significant other. Rod's loyalty should have been with Landon, not Landon's mom.

All that aside, I loved the chemistry between the men, the sexy motorcycle talk, and the effort they both made. Because they TRIED. They tried hard.

Visiting with Bryce and Nick again was nice. They are solid, and that made me smile.

Plus, Rod is a little freak in bed. Big thumbs up for the ass play; too bad toys were used only in the bonus scene that followed the epilogue. I mean, Rod owns a sex toy shop! He should be trying out all the freebies all the time.

One thing I have to mention is the subpar editing. I found several typos, including this gem: The front break lever and throttle are on the right side ... Most of the breaking is going to come from the front break.

Authors, have a professional edit your books! Please. It's embarrassing to find spelling and grammar errors in a published work. And it frustrates me that no one seems to notice or care. It's so unprofessional.

Ok, mini rant over. I want to round down for the editing issues, but I just can't. Hart knows how to write a filthy yet tender sex scene, and I admire that so much. Also HEA.

RATING 4.5 STARS

Shifting Gears is book two in the Crossroads series by Riley Hart. I read book one, Crossroads, years ago but never did purchase the rest of the series. Well, I finally did! So I re-read Crossroads in preparation to read the rest of the series. I’m so so glad I did. Because Bryce and Nick made plenty of appearances in this book and it was so great to spend time with them again and see how in love they still are.

We first met Rod Nelson in the first book at the adult toy store Bryce and Nick visited. Now Rod, age twenty five, owns his own store, Rods-N-Ends. And he has remained friends with Nick and Bryce. A very good looking man visited the store and has come back in about once a week without talking to him. Finally Rod breaks the ice. Rod doesn’t do relationships, just hook-ups. And he’d definitely enjoy a bit of time with him!

Landon Harrison came back to their small Virginia town because his sister is getting married and their mom needs him. Landon swore he’d never come back and definitely didn’t think he’d ever be living with his mom again but here he is. Then he spots the cute guy working at Rods-N-Ends and everything suddenly looks more interesting.

Neither of these men has ever been in a relationship. Both have been hurt emotionally by the people that are supposed to love them unconditionally. It’s Rod who broke my heart the most. He lives his life showing others what he wants them to see, always keeping the real him covered up. Always assuming that anyone that came into his life wasn’t staying. That they already had one foot back out the door because that’s what people in his life did, they left. It’s Landon that saw right through him, though. It’s Landon that challenged him, that wouldn’t leave the past in the past. It’s Landon that made him wonder if maybe this one time, someone might stay.

“We’re shifting gears, that’s all. Not sure where we’re going. Not even sure I know how to get there, but let’s just try to enjoy the ride.”

I loved this one. I was worried about how I would feel with any book following Crossroads since I love it so much. But really ended up loving Rod and Landon. Of course, I enjoyed spending a little more time with Bryce and Nick as well! These two men both had pasts that left them damaged with unhealed wounds. But when you meet the right person, the possibility of finally letting the past go and having a future you never thought you’d have is a surprise you never anticipated. And I loved watching Landon and Rod finding the happiness they needed and deserved. Now, I’m ready for the next book, Test Drive.

*3.35* An adult toy store owner and a bike mechanic meet over lube purchase.

✔️Daddy issues
✔️Fear of commitment
✔️Friends to lovers
✔️Keeping secrets

Rod (25) owns an adult toy store called Rods-N-Ends. Rod is a huge flirt, with everyone. He has zero depth and is portrayed as very flighty. Underneath his self-deprecating humor is a man who just wants someone to love him.

Landon (30) a hot bike mechanic who has moved back home with his mother and finds the man who owns the adult story quite interesting. He also wants someone to love him, but he doesn’t want a commitment.

I liked these men, but couldn’t get any real sense of who they really were. The sex was hot, with brief moments of toy play but not enough for someone who claims to enjoy all the samples he gets for his store. I REALLY dislike family secrets and have yet to read one that turned out positive. So the big secret and twist was annoying and I still don’t understand the dad’s explanation of it all.

I struggled with this audiobook, Sean Crisden is a good voice actor, but I hated his voice for Rod. Very nasally and whiny.

I have mixed feelings about this one.

I'm torn about whether to round up or down. But ultimately I started skimming some in the end, so down it goes.

My biggest problem with this book....yeah, it was Rod. He annoyed the hell out of me. He was funny at first but then the same joke over and over got old. He had daddy issues, I get it. But at some point you just have to....

...move on with your life, don't let it ruin something good.

Landon wasn't perfect, he annoyed me at times too. More so in the beginning.

The conflict annoyed me a little too.

But....the sex was hot. And I liked the bits with Nick and Bryce. It wasn't a bad read. But it was no Crossroads.

I read Crossroads months ago and I loved it! Double GFY and friends-to-lovers, just my favorite kind of MM romance.

The second book in this series, Shifting Gears was different: Rod was gay, Landon was bisexual. Rod was very sociable and funny, London was very serious and introverted.

I liked Rod from the first book. I knew I'll laugh while reading his story and I was right.
But this book was so much more than I expected. It was deeper and more heartbreaking than I thought.

The MCs both had so many scars from their past, but these two wonderful men found their way to each other.

It was a pleasant read, with some unexpected turns and a lot of HOT scenes.

Shifting Gears by Riley Hart is the follow-up book in the Crossroads Series. Rod, whom we met in the first book has now opened his own adult sex toy store- Rods-N-Ends, and it's there he met Landon. Right off the bat, we can feel the chemistry between them, but Landon is hesitant to go beyond friendship afraid it'll mess up the growing friendship between them.

 photo image.jpg1_zps9gw9xiv0.jpg

My highlights:

•Rod. He was just as great as I'd remembered. He's sweet and funny. I enjoyed getting to know him better and found myself wanting to drop kick his dad the more I learned about his past.
•Landon. Although I found myself wanting to shake some sense into him, he won me over in the end with his nurturing nature.
•Relationship development. I love friends to lovers stories especially when there's witty banter between them. Riley Hart did an excellent job building the sexual tension between them and having it grow into more.
•Bryce & Nick. It was nice to catch up with them and see them still happy together.
•Heat factor. Dirty talk is always a plus and Landon's got a potty mouth on him. ;)
•I was pleased that the angst wasn't over done nor melodramatic.
•It’s got humor.
•I love that it’s told from an alternating POV.
•The end. Sweet and fluffy just the way I like it.

In the end, I think Riley's got another winner on her hands. She delivered another sexy, swoony story about self-worth, healing, and family. 4.5 Stars.

Rod’s mom died when he was eight and his father hated him for so long and because of his father’s behavior he thinks he doesn’t deserve love. Landon’s childhood wasn’t better than Rod, fighting parents and then when his father walked out on them, leaving behind a depressed mom... Her mother had broken when his father left. So when Landon was eighteen he left his mom and sister but now that his sister’s getting married he has to come back. Because of his parents, Landon thinks he can’t have a relationship; friendship yes but not relationship. He doesn’t believe in love and when he met Rod he couldn’t risk losing his friendship with him. These two hid behind their past and pretend it didn’t affect their lives but it’s just a lie!

Well, I liked this story but didn’t love it. I couldn’t feel anything for these two. Told in dual POV, 3rd person. It’s the second installment in the "Crossroads" series but it can be read as a standalone, with character crossover. All in all, it was an easy-read and hope you enjoy it!

I don't know what it is with me but with some authors when I have read 8-10 of their books I get bored, it happened to me last year with a couple of authors I really enjoyed and I am sad to say this has happened with Riley Hart.

While reading this I did not connect with Rod and Landon I felt nothing for them. I don't even remember Bryce and Nick from book one in this series not like I remember the couples from the Blackcreek series like I only read them last week not years ago.

I feel like each book is the same old story, guys meet, guys have family issues, guys start f*cking, guys can't commit, same old.

I really did struggle while reading this and to finish it but I was determined to give it a chance after about 50% I started to skim a lot even the sex scenes just so I could get to the end.

This is my opinion please don't let my review stop you from reading this and hopefully enjoying it.

Damn...i loved this book !! It was really good ;)

We've met Rod in the first book, he was working at the sex shop that Bryce and Nick visited. He still works at a sex shop...difference is, he is owns it. This is also were he meets Landon. The sexy dude who comes in often to buy lube.

Rod does his very best to seduce the guy, but Landon isn't biting. When he finds out that Landon is in need of a job (he's a mechanic), Rod helps him out by asking Bryce if he knows about a job opening. Bryce is looking for someone and when it turns out that Landon has the perfect credentials, he hires him.

Landon is very thankfull and he and Rod become friends. Rod still wants to fuck him, but Landon let's him know, that isn't going to happen. It's not that he isn't attracted to Rod, but he doesn't want to fuk up their friendship. He really likes Rod and sex always complicates things. Usually he doesn't even want to talk to the person he fucked afterwards. He is also not looking for a relationship. After witnessing his parents fucked up marriage and his dad walking out on him....he doesn't really believe in love anymore.

Rod however isn't looking for a relationship either. He doesn't believe anyone could love him anyway. He just enjoys sex and doesn't understand why they can't just have some fun together and still be friends. Rod is like a dog with a bone and after a while resistence is futile....Landon caves. Oh how I loved these two together...they were smoking !!! Rod really likes his ass played with ;)

 photo 34pgefr.jpg_zps0fozj9xu.gif

They stay friends...friends who get off together. Landon is the first to discover that his feelings are running deeper than just fucking and eventhough this scares the shit out of him, he's honest about this to Rod. Rod still doesn't get that Landon would want to be with him..date him, be his boyfriends, but he tries. My heart really broke for Rod and how he felt about himself. He was convinced that he would fuck things up and that Landon would leave him anyway.

He wasn't wallowing in selfpity or anything...he was oke with the way things were and holding on to what he could get. He started to open up and he even started believig in himself.

But than the past comes knocking ... making everthing more complicated. I won't go into what happens, but in my opinion, Rod did what he thought was best. I understood why he made that decision.

I really loved Rod...he was so funny, I laughed my ass off. At the same time, I felt so sad for him. He always tries to cover up his real feelings with a joke, trying to make the people around him happy. Of all the books written by this author, he's my favorite character. Landon was a really good guy too, he had his own shitty past and demons to fight. He was very good to Rod ;) I also loved that we got more of Bryce and Nick. They were awesome and Bryce and Rod together were funny as hell !

I really hope we'll get Justins book next, he sounded like a very interesting character.

5 stars from me...can't wait to see what's next :))

DNF @93% and I'll tell you why in a spoiler tag below. But in case you don't want a spoiler, it's basically because I'm a bitch and don't always believe burned bridges should be rebuilt. Other than that, I mostly enjoyed the story. It was kind of sweet with a lot of (too much maybe) very graphic sex.

I love these characters!

Rod Nelson and Landon Harrison both have some pretty deep-seated Daddy issues, with good cause, so this allows for a really well done hurt/comfort/healing arc to the storyline.

daddy issues

I loved getting to see Bryce and Nick (main characters from the first book in the series, Crossroads) living their lives together, still blissfully happy.

There's some humor, some sweet fluffy times, and some really good UST that happens early on, though it doesn't (thankfully) seem to take the guys as long to get together as it did Bryce and Nick. I actually really liked the friends-to-lovers that happens. Then the sexy times start and Woo-Hoo! Are the sexy times filled with wonderful dirty talk and hot, hot scenes!
“Please…” Rod said softly, needy.
“Please what?” Landon asked, this time using his thumb rubbing circles on Rod’s hole. “Tell me what you need. Tell me what will make you feel good.”
“Whatever you want…just something.”
Landon pulled his hand back. Did Rod always sacrifice what he wanted for others? Was he always just willing to take what he could get instead of demanding what he needed? “Tell me what you want, what will make you feel good or I’ll stop now.”
It would kill him to stop. His balls ached. His cock leaked in his shorts, really fucking needing to get off. Rod turned his head, brows furrowed as he looked at Landon and it confirmed that this was the right thing to do. On some level, it was uncomfortable that he knew what Rod was feeling, that he wanted to do whatever he could to give the man what he needed, but it was there, and he couldn’t deny it.
Not in this moment. He shoved those scattered thoughts away for now.
“Tell me,” Landon said again.
“I want you to kiss me. Lay on me. I want your weight smothering me, your tongue in my mouth, and your fingers in my ass.”
Landon wanted that too.

hot sex kissing

I also loved that there is no bi-erasure here. Landon knows he's Bi, and fully embraces his love of both sexes. In fact, there's not much I didn't love about the story. My only complaint is that I was upset with a twist that happens, mostly because I think Rod's first priority should always be Landon, regardless of anything else. But that's only my personal opinion and, in the end, it didn't ruin my joy of the story in the whole.

The pacing is a bit slow, but I found that to be the same as with Crossroads, so readers should already have the pacing in mind. This story, and the series, is just good friends-to-lovers romance.
“Just ride it out with me. That’s what I’m doing, riding it out. We’re shifting gears, that’s all. Not sure where we’re going. Not even sure I know how to get there, but let’s just try to enjoy the ride.”

RECOMMENDED!

P.S.: I can hardly wait for the audio to come out - I'm hoping for Sean Crisden to narrate again!

DNF. I just couldn't with this story. I tried, I really did, but the story and narration were not working for me. At this point I need to give up on Riley Hart and finally decide me and this author are not meant to be.

The ridiculousness of these characters was too much for me and I couldn't keep going. Time of death: 1hr 29min 9sec

5+ Stars!! I F.Loved This Book!!

This is book two in the Crossroads series, and Riley Hart has written a brilliant book! This book has everything, two amazing MC, lots of chemistry, motorcycles, hot as hell sex, dirty talking, comedy, a very hot slow-burn, and supporting characters that we already love! What more could you want? This series is a must read for all! Rod Nelson, he is the life of the party always has a joke and isn't afraid to have a good time, he isn't looking for love only a good time and he has no trouble finding that. Something changes when Landon Harrison visits his adult toy store, for the third time in as many weeks looking for his favorite lube, Easy-Ride. Yes, he can admit he wants Landon.. and he wants him badly!

Landon, having just moved back home for his sisters wedding now finds himself living with his mom again after years of living on his own, this is an adjustment to say the least. Landon finds himself visiting Rods-and-Ends on a weekly basis, he finds himself drawn to the witty man who works behind the counter. Landon makes no apologies for his healthy sex-drive, he enjoys both males and females - but as he continues to get to know Rod he finds that he is enjoying their friendship so much he is afraid to let it progress to something more - he doesn't want to lose Rod.

As the sexual tension keeps building and these two MC become inseparable, they find they have a lot more in common besides wanting to jump each other. Landon and Rod both come to depend on each other and help each other out, such as Rod hooking Landon up with a connection to Bryce who is looking for a motorcycle mechanic and then Landon volunteering to teach Rod how to ride a motorcycle.. they really do become friends-before-lovers. This is not for all of Rod's trying to get them to sleep together, as he so eloquently puts it.. if they would just get it out of their system then they could be "just friends" -- but life never works out that way, does it?

When Landon finally gives in to Rod after fending him off for a while... these two are explosive!!

But what happens after they have sex? Will Landon now walk away? He has admitted he never stays friends with people he sleeps with? What about Rod, can he deal with yet another person turning their back on him? You will just have to get this book and find out.. and let me tell you it's an amazing ride!! So hang on... and come "Shift Gears" with Landon and Rod while Riley Hart keeps your heart racing to the ending!!

Landon's back in town for his sister's wedding and to stay awhile with his Mom. His Dad walked out and never came back. He goes to Rob's Sex Toy store for lube and they end up talking. Landon, 30, likes Rod with his tattoo, guyliner and sassy attitude. Rod, 25, tells him where to check for mechanic jobs. He gets the job as motorcycle mechanic at Bryce and Nick's shop. Neither men have had luck with romance, and both have been abandoned. They have put up some tall walls to protect themselves. So they become friends and slowly they move forward, and do end up in bed. Both guys know their world has been rocked; they are stunned because it's so good. Neither has ever felt that deep emotional connection before. So, they take it in small steps. Landon seeks advice, because he doesn't want to lose Rod. Rod is a master at pushing people away. We see Landon encouraging Rod to ride a motorcycle, and Landon's Mom is being mysterious. There is a discovery, a secret, a wedding, and a reveal. Will they guys love be strong enough?
I love Riley Hart's stories, her intense characters, and the super hot sexiness with her men. Marvelous !
And, the bonus sex scene is fun, too.
Highly recommended ! ENJOY !

Man, do Rod and Landon have some daddy issues - issues that have held them back from forming any kind of attachment, as well as developing nary a relationship. It's quite understandable to see where they're coming from - afraid to hurt or be hurt. Try as they might and despite mostly wanting to be just friends, they can't resist the growing attraction between them.

Thank gawd they finally give into their lusty urges and the results are very, very, nice. I agree with some reviewers - these two hang onto their baggage just a little too hard. Unlike Nick and Bryce, they continuously hemmed and hawed, but when they finally got their shit together, when they realized love was worth fighting for, it obviously all worked out quite satisfactorily.

For me, Crossroads was just a bit more enjoyable. However, this still had some great humor, fun, and major sexy times, in and amongst these guys's self imposed angst. I feel confident in saying that as long as Hart continues with this series, I plan on reading it!

This was an enjoyable addition to the Crossroads series. Rod and Landon made for an intriguing pair. Both men showed a lot sweetness and vulnerability, and both struggled with their own daddy issues, which strongly impacted their growing relationship in poignant and powerful ways. I definitely liked the overall progression and pace of their relationship, from strangers, to friends, to lovers, to everything.

Hopefully, next we get Justin's story .

I was nervous about this one. Turns out, I was right to be nervous. I didn't care for this one. Maybe it was the audio, because OMG Rod's voice was awful!!!! He sounded like a whiny, nasally teenager. God, it was so bad.

I also really had the Landon dad thing. Like it had no place in this book, honestly. Unless one of these twists is the reason for book three. And that just makes it even worse if that's the case...ugh. I'm afraid to look now, lol.

I'll probably still read it, because I feel like I'm invested and I did like the first one. I might have to see who the narrator is though, because this one wasn't great for me and maybe that's why I didn't like it as much as the first one.

Oh no...

Definitely this book wasn't for me.

When I find out that this going to be the second book of Crossroad I was so excited, Crossroads it's my favorite book of Riley Hart, and Riley Hart one of my favorite M/M writters.

But god no, I think that was my problem, I read almost everything from this writter, so I couldn't stop feeling disspointed through the book, some scenes was like I was reading a scene from Stay or Broken Pieces and i mean I was expecting something different.

I feel like I read this story a thousand of times... The boy with a hard pass that don't let anybody in.

So yes i feel that this wasn't for me for that, if I didn't read so many M/M books I probably loved it, but this is not the case.

Apart of that is a lovely story, it's a shame that i didn't enjoyed like I supose to do but well lifes continue.

If you're looking some lovely sweet story and doesn't bother you clichés this is for you.

“I own a sex store. I’ve worked in one for years. I’m gay. We only care about fucking. Maybe it’s different for you since you’re bi?”

1.5⭐ and this book is boring, bland and uneventful.

The main love story is terribly unconvincing and it's pretty similar in many ways to the first installment, only another two main characters are inserted along with very familiar tropes.

🔵 Mechanic/sex shop owner
🟣 Both around 30
🟢 Bisexual/gay
🟡 Family drama, in general the same formula
🌶️ A lot of smut but it really didn't work because it was thrown in there randomly, a lot of sexual references that were lame, sex was same old same old; t/b

Rod and Landon were as boring as it gets. They had basically the same story as Nick and Bryce, only Nick and Bryce were men and I really liked their book, while Rod and Landon were high school kids trying to play adults.

Rod and Landon met by chance, immediately liked each other and then Landon stayed away because he wanted a friend and he couldn't have sex with Rod because that would mean he'd never want to talk to the guy again - and Rod was offering himself on every single page. Then the story tried to make it seem like he had some deep trauma and that's why he loved sex as much. Bleh.

Rod's store is also apparently the only place in town where you can get lube and that's what this story basically revolves around.

The chemistry was lacking, was it even there? I couldn't see it.
Both main characters didn't pull me in, I wasn't invested in anything concerning them and every little event was topped with sex and more sex and more sex talk and then dick and getting hard and yeah, just forget about it. It didn't work. It was too much and pasted on characters that didn't fit into the roles they were given.

"Rod looked up, a thank you in his eyes. “Let’s go. Show me bikes. I like to watch you get hard when you talk about them.”
Landon rolled his eyes. Only fucking Rod. “Let’s do it then.”"

“Looks good. Nick and I are having a barbeque this Sunday. I’m running the grill and Nick’s making the rest of the food. He’s a chef. He makes potatoes that are so fucking good they get me hard.”

It gets progressively worse.

"His father had never taught him to separate his laundry before doing it. He’d heard people talk about it, but thought it was one of those things people spoke about but didn’t really happen."

You're telling me Rod has a sex shop, he's online a lot yet in all of his years on this Earth he couldn't google how to properly wash his laundry? Wow.

It starts picking up at about 80% with Landon's family drama and inserting Justin as his step brother and that was about the only interesting thing in this book. Justin's had very little page time, yet I can tell already that he's going to be a good character in his own book.

Wasn't worthy of being the next installment, to be honest.

5+ stars!

Absolutely loved this! I liked the first book in the series, but this one blew the first one out of the water. Brilliant writing, well developed, flawed characters, dual POV, and hot sex scenes. What more to ask for?

So. Rod is the owner of a sex toy store and Nick and Bryce’s friend from book 1. He is incredibly quirky, full of smart-ass one-liners, an incorrigible flirt, and hilarious guy. But Rod is also very sensitive, insecure, and afraid that he’ll find no one to truly want him for more than a one-night stand. Landon is a motorcycle mechanic who just moved back to Virginia from Florida to be with his family for his sister’s upcoming wedding. He loathes having had to come back, is totally guilt-ridden for having been gone for so many years, and smitten with Rod. But Landon does not do relationships, so even though he buys ridiculous amounts of lube from Rod every week, he shoots Rod down when Rod hits on him.

The guys start hanging out more and more with Rod unapologetically flirting with Landon and Landon trying desperately to reject his advances. Until he can’t anymore. When they eventually start a sexual relationship with the understanding it’s a friends with benefits deal, things go out of control. That first scene before they consciously make this decision though? Holy mother! I don’t remember when I last read such a hot scene. I’m talking major turn-on here folks. Riley Hart outdid herself with this one, she really did.

The best part? They guys are pretending to be in a sex-only relationship when for all intents and purposes they are in a full on romantic relationship. They do “couple” things, they start sharing things from their respective pasts, and get closer and closer. And the sex gets hotter and hotter I might add! The feelings that come about are so beautifully explored in this book. I don’t want to spoil the plot with how the relationship develops but there’s a surprising turn of events and a lot of growth on both of their parts. I love that both characters are dealing with issues that have so far prevented them from opening up and trusting people and they are slowly acknowledging these issues, leaving them in the past.

The writing is excellent –I love some good dialogue and we get it here in spades: sharing moments, dirty talk, fights, texting, you name it. The guys TALK, and they are real with each other. I was glued to this book and couldn’t get enough. There is also some evocative sub-plot with Landon’s family history. I sure hope one of the characters for the next book comes from the resolution of that subplot!

I highly recommend this!

3.75 NOT QUITE 4 STARS

We met Rod in book 1 as an employee of an adult store that Bryce and Nick frequented. Now proud owner of Rods and Ends, he spends most of his days taking care of his new shop. He has noticed a gorgeous guy that likes to frequent his shop, maybe just a little too much. He strikes up a conversation with Landon and learns that he is just moved back home and is looking for a job. They become fast friends, although Rod is looking for a “friends with benefits” type of deal, Landon wants no part of any type of relationship.

Both Rod and Landon are damaged from their past and it is affecting their lives now. They both want what they think they can’t have and have no idea of how to be in a relationship. My heart broke for Rod and his self-doubt if anybody would ever want him. At times, Landon did get on my nerves. I honestly understood him not wanting a relationship, but after a while I just wanted to tell him to get over it and move on.

I did like this book, not as much as Bryce and Nicks story, though we do get to see them a lot in this book. All in all, it was a good read.
