3.5/5 The Tenrou Island arc continues. Highlights of this volume involve plot development for Cana and Gildarts and a battle between Erza and Azuma the tree man. Decent overall but the “I can win with the power of friendship” theme in some of the fights is becoming over played. I expect it in Shonen manga but we don’t need to use it every 3-4 volumes.
The volume ends with a build up between Gray and Ultear.
Gildarts and the Fairy Tail members as kids on the cover of volume 28.
Now we know what Cana's big secret is, as well as diving deeper into both friend and foes backstories. The plot thickens with this volume as emotions run high. I think the emotional stakes actually get higher as this arc moves along. Onto volume 29!
Blue note’s magic is very strange.🤔 Is that a kind of gravity or rain?? Moreover, Fairy glitter is also unclear for me so I should better watch anime in Japanese as a confirm. By the way, a secret of Kana was revealed so I was impressed again. (Every time I am impressed...😭)
All this time she was just trying to prove that she was something he could be proud of ): but then she came to the realisation that i doesn’t matter if she become an S-Class wizard if shes going to be treat her friends. She doesn’t want that! I loved that moment for her.
“Mistakes are not shackles to hold you back. . . But sustenance to nurture the heart.”
Jellal and Ezra have some kind of connection?! he gave her strength to fight? 🥺
“What I am doing is not protecting my friends. They have always been the ones protecting me!” — Ezra Scarlet
Lucy and her friends are beginning to think that the battles with this illegal guild will never end as the fighting drags them deeper and deeper into the island! Mashima continues the battles with this entertaining entry that pits fan favourites against new and creative abilities. What will it take to get these guys to cease their plans of revival?!
Some good fights, a few decent moments, though the whole magic sapping thing seemed like some absolute nonsense with no real setup or purpose other than to give Erza a more pivotal fight, I guess.
It’s not particularly good, but is far from the worst this series has offered.
<3 Finally, we get down to some great fights. The sort of cheesy, my-friends-are-my-strength fights that I read shonen manga for. Love Erza so much! Love Gildarts. Love everything about this volume.
Ultear is telling Gray that she is doing Ur’s will. Even after he makes the point she should hate Zeref since he made Deliora, and that’s what killed Ur Erza has encounter Azuma Hades has sent out ‘Blue Note’ and sends a silent apology to Makarov Rusty Rose comes to their base camp… where it is only Levy, Lisana and Lily to defend and their magic power is low. Natsu, Lucy, Wendy, Carla, Happy and a K.O Makarov encounter the sub commander of GH: Blue Note Stinger (he has gravity magic?) Blue Note is determined to find the grave of Mavis. Cana has made it there first! The grave is glowing: sealing the ‘Fairy Glitter’ spell Canas backstory: Her mother passed, she learned her father was a FT wizard so she went there. Her father is Gildarts!!! He didn’t recognise her, so she waited for another opportunity but it never came. She began to enclose. She told herself that she would tell him she is his daughter when she became an S-Class Wizard. And that’s trial was her last. She begs for the power to help her guild, to protect her friends CANA GETS THE FAIRY GLITTER SPELL She is getting thrown around by Blue Note and he is trying to take the Fairy Glitter out of her. Natsu is trying so hard to get up and help, he blows fire through the ground XD That allows Cana to use it- but he uses to much gravity magic and stops her. She doubts her abilities. Just before she will be dropped, some saves her. GILDARTS!!! FRIED AND BICKSLOW CAME BACK TOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! They’re fighting Rusty Rose, beating his ass! Blue Note and Gildarts are equal Azuma reveals he has wood type magic, lost magic: Arboreal Arc. He connected to the roots and is tipping over the sacred tree on Sirius Island- and the FT members wain in magical power.. The tree would enhance anyone with a guild marks power AND protect them from death while they’re on the island Gildarts, the Thunder Legion, Erza- they’re being beat. Azuma is the one draining them, he has lent Erza her strength and told her, to show him the strength to save her friends.. She decides after a few reequips that she needs no armour but all her magic power concentrated into her sword: Fairy Sword, Red Cherry Blossum. He grabs her… he hurts her- badly. He thinks he’s won. Jallal from his cell, whisper-calls her name and pleads her to win. She gets up. For her friends, she gets- the fuck- back up!!! Azuma vs. Erza: Winner = Erza Azuma grants everyone back their magic from the sacred tree. Upholding his end of the bargain. His body starts turning into its own tree(?) Rusty Rose tries to use the same attack that took Elfman and Ever out. Bickslow takes off his mask to control Elfman as a puppet. GILDARTS COULD BREAK BLUE NOTES BLACK HOLE MAGIC!!??? Ultear is manipulating Gray to try and use Ice Shell on Hades…. This man always trying to off himself with that damn spell. Ultear is so manipulative! She had lied to Gray, and when she see’s Juvia passed out near Meldy, she aims to kill her. Gray comes to save her!! Ultear was under the impression Gray would wait for her “I’m the strongest” speech… he did not.
So many cool fights! Back story, and a little more on the powers of Sirius Island!! I love that we got to see the strength of Gildarts and the power of two Thunder Legion members!

This will be my full review for this entire series. I already read this comic from volume 1-30. Suppose there 50 volume more of this series but I prefer not to finish it as I don't really like the time-skip idea in this series.
To clarify, I love the idea of time-skip. But, in this series, I really hate it. It make Natsu and other main member weaker. Why make them weaker? I want to see MC progress throughout the series. Then, suddenly become weaker. Not to mention when MC want to win each battle, power of friendship keep coming back each battle.
Furthermore, there are a lot of un-explained things happened in this series. The dots are not connected rather than scattered throughout the series. It just there to fill the plot-hole. Rather than explaining, Mr Hiro keep continuing the series and keep adding new characters each volume.
So, after the time-skip, I determine to stop reading this series. I don't want to ruin my memories of this awesome series. For most part, this series actually had huge potential because of interesting and lovable character, but the plot is keep on damaging this series slowly.
The Tenrou Island arc is in full swing and fight upon fight dominates this volume. As always there are a few revelations which enriches the installment but this was heavy on the fights. I found myself wondering how many episodes this entire volume would consume in the animated series. Cana and Gildarts further plot is the highlight of the book...which is a quick read because of all the battling. The art is always top notch, but this volume is more forgettable than many of the others. Not bad...but definitely even with the cool moves is not going to hold a candle to previous and I am sure future battles.
So as repeatitive as the fighting can get in these books, this one feature two badass fights. Gildarts' one was essentially awesome vs. awesome. And I love to see Fried and Bixlow go full force.
What I like about Fairy Tail is that it sometimes takes someone who could be a throw away character and gives them some dimensions, like Cana here. What I'm not so fond of: I'm starting to get why Erza gets on people's nerves. I like her and her badass self, but it is annoying that she never loses.

I don’t understand why sometimes the island is called Tenrou Island and sometimes Sirius Island, or is Tenrou only used in the anime. I’m very confused since I’ve been reading the manga and rewatching these anime episodes simultaneously. This confusion is so embarrassing🤦🏻♀️
This didn’t have me flipping through the pages a quickly as others but I still loved this volume! We finally learn who Cana’s father is and we get some amazing battles with a guild member we haven’t really seen fight before (which I was 100% here for). In addition we learn more about the other types of magic this enemy has and see a big role for both Erza and Gray.
It was a really nice volume, the fights were easy to be involved in but it didn't draw me in as much as other volumes can. Excited to read more of Fairy Tail this year and i'm happy to start the year with it.
