I picked this up at a garage sale, just because it was a classic green Penguin mystery, then discovered to my delight that it was set in Canberra in the 1950s. I lived in Canberra for 4 years in the early 70s and it was delightful to read about locations I knew so well, and to see how much the city had grown and changed in those 20 years.

Excellent storytelling, with a thoroughly engaging protagonist who presents himself as dishonourable, when in fact he is anything but. The Australian setting is affectionately drawn and definitely helps flesh out the characters.
