Fandom: Harry Potter Relationship: Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy -------------------------------------------------- Five years after Voldemort's defeat, Harry returns to England to help re-open Hogwarts.
This is the only fanfic I've ever really loved. This novel-length Harry Potter story, written between the release of books four and five, takes place a few years after the Battle of Hogwarts, when Harry returns to Hogwarts to teach after a long stint recuperating with a coven in Florida. I actually prefer Resonant's version of the Battle of Hogwarts and its aftermath to the one J.K. Rowling wrote. I've read this fic three times now, and I only read Deathly Hallows once. So, uh, there you have it.
The story is technically Harry/Draco, but there's such a wonderful, intricate plot that the romance is almost secondary. You see, the Death Eaters may have been defeated, but they left some very nasty surprises behind at Hogwarts, and if the new crop of teachers can't get to the bottom of things soon, people may die...
A+ fanfic. I wish Resonant had written more in this world.
I just did not feel this fic. Harry was super annoying, with his childish comments and petulant attitude. The magic was original, and yet I did not like it. Not British enough. But I liked Draco and I can see Ron as a fixer. So it is not a complete bomb, just not my cuppa tea.
I didn't hate this one, but I didn't love it either. Since the story was written before The Order of the Phoenix, a lot that I like about the Harry Potter series is missing. Also the addition of North American and Latin magic wasn't to my taste. I'm Haitian and so a lot of the terms used I'm familiar with. But I see the Potter story (even fan fiction) as solely British. It's escapism for me and talking about Florida water and such ruined it for me.
There aren't that many comments -- it's not like it's every paragraph, or even every page -- but if you're about to re-read the story, it's definitely worth it to read this version at least once.
Someone save me! I can't stop reading fanfics. Ive lost the count but this should be around the 6th or 7th after I started reading on Sunday. (Yeah, four days ago, reading Drarry fanfiction non-stop)
I’m not the kind of person that usually reads this kind of book, and if I were to be I would not write about it either… but I feel like this book begs the exception. I first read it as a kid -maybe 15 or 16?- online with friends as a joke. We ended up enjoying it so much (and making fun of the sex because that’s what kids do) that I wanted to reference it all these years later and see how it held up to time. I feel like this is one of the only fanfics in general that I have read that felt like a sequel or follow-up to a book, that actually felt REAL. I hope to find a copy soon to reread and see what I think about the plot and development after 15 years or so. With how everything played out re: “original” author of the HP series and toxic bigotry/ TERF nonsense, I feel like Resonant deserves more than JK ever did, especially since I like their ending better (written before we even GOT the last official books)
Feels a bit weird reading Harry Potter fanfic at this time - but this I’m reading this in preparation for an episode of the Be The Serpent podcast about moving on from JK Rowling, so it feels like closure of a kind. Anyway, this fic was written pre-Order of the Phoenix, so it diverges from the HP books in many ways. It has an intriguing world-building element - a type of magic known as ‘calligromancy’ which is explored in detail over the course of the story. It’s a clever concept which ties in nicely with the canon while also feeling distinctive. I’ve read other fics which develop the Harry/Draco relationship better, but something this fic does really well is the characterisation of the supporting cast - Ron in particular, so often short-changed by fanfic, is really well portrayed here. “If a thing is worth doing, it’s worth doing exquisitely.”
One of my all-time favorite fics, written in the Long Draught between GoF and OotP. Love the way magic works, love the description of the American school, love the romance.
The whole gang is back at Hogwarts 5 years after the war to help it reopen. Harry has been in Florida for the past 5 years, not really dealing with all that happened to him. He comes back to find Draco and Hermione close friends, and the school is full of curses going off all the time like land mines. I thought this was very well written. Harry ticked me off throughout most of the story, refusing to believe Draco could be on their side, even after they started fooling around.
This was written before Order of the Phoenix, so was severely AU, different people dead, or dead for different reasons, but a really interesting take on how things might have gone.
In many ways this is Harry Potter meets Fifty Shades of... Gay!
But the romance in this felt so right, so tender. :)
The book, written by a boggart impersonating JK Rowling, has a single-strand Whodunnit (and how to undo what was done) storyline: There are landmines in Hogwarts that need to be found and deactivated before more people step on them and set off deadly magic spells.
The plot is clever and thorough. There's some Q&A niftily inserted into the story, so that we may conjecture and feel everything that Rowling left for us to conjecture and feel.
Just don't expect a whole 8th book! As Albus Dumbledore would put it, "That would be optimistic to the point of foolishness".
The most superior Draco/Harry fanfic, I've read. It has the essential romance between Harry and Draco, but the story is fully developed and novel length with excellent quality writing. This is the "go-to" fanfic for Harry Potter fans. Great for beginners who are unused to fanfic and are looking for well-edited, well-developed plot and characters, although it may ruin them for most other fanfics out there.
What can one say of Resonant's writer? It's gorgeous, polished and entrancing. 'Transfigurations' also has original magic, a marvellous plot and a well developed cast.
