""The Word of God well understood and religiously obeyed is the shortest route to spiritual perfection. Nothing less than a whole Bible can make a whole Christian." --A. W. Tozer ""Key writings of one of the twentieth century's most profound Christian authors are married with the scriptures that A. W. Tozer loved, studied and wrote about over the course of his forty year ministry. "Hendrickson Publishers is proud to introduce the A. W. Tozer Bible, which will introduce a whole generation of readers to his work. Tozer (1897-1963), an pastor, preacher, student and teacher, is perhaps the closest American writer to C. S. Lewis, with the same penetrating insights and straightforward use of language. His bracing words, which accompany related passages throughout this Bible, unlock many of the mysteries of the Scriptures in language that could have been written today. This unique volume features over 500 key selections and teachings, taken from more than 40 of Tozer's writings, ranging from seminal bestselling books like "The Pursuit of God" and "The Attributes of God" to lesser-known works such as The Size of the Soul and The Root of the Righteous. Each selection appears in one of three categories: On Scripture - Over 365 selections, each sharing the page with the Bible passage to which it refers, add depth and insight to a particular verse's application for the believer.Reflections - More than 100 writings that apply the deep meaning of the Christian faith to everyday life.Challenges - Nearly 100 entries, tied to scripture, that exhort the reader to resist complacency in particular areas of one's "living out" the Word in the world.Special Features - Brief biography of A. W. Tozer- Over 500 Tozer selections- Book introductions- Words of Christ in red- Concordance- Maps
Books can be attributed to "Anonymous" for several reasons:
* They are officially published under that name * They are traditional stories not attributed to a specific author * They are religious texts not generally attributed to a specific author
Books whose authorship is merely uncertain should be attributed to Unknown.
“The Word of God well understood and religiously obeyed is the shortest route to spiritual perfection.”
And so with those words written by the late author and Pastor A. W. Tozer we are introduced to the A. W. Tozer Bible published in the King James Version.
With the A. W. Tozer Bible what we see is exactly what we get…a Bible…the Holy Word of God in all its glory. But we get something much more that makes this Bible an ideal devotional/study Bible for any individual who is serious about their relationship to God and his Son Jesus Christ.
In the A. W. Tozer Bible we are provided an introduction to each book of the Bible which includes some background information about the book, a brief overview of the main message of the book, the time the book was written and finally an outline. The introduction page is as they say, “short, sweet and to the point,” which is something I like.
After the Introduction page of each book of the Bible we then enter into the actual book itself and buried within the pages of each book of the Bible are precious golden nuggets of spiritual truth and insights written by A. W. Tozer himself…offered as thoughts “On Scripture,” (over 365 selections included in this Bible); as “Reflections,” (Over 100 different ones are included),” and “Challenges,” (Almost 100 that are related to Scripture). Each thought on Scripture, each reflection and each challenge was included in the Bible to encourage us in some way as its reader to a closer walk with and deeper spiritual relationship with God and his Son Jesus Christ. Another feature I like is that the Words of Christ are in red. At the back of the Bible there is a very helpful Concordance and some beautifully and colorfully created maps such as one of the Land of Israel/Palestine in the First Century of the Common Era so we have an idea where places written about in the Bible are located.
I really enjoy my copy of the A. W. Tozer Bible. I use it before I go to bed to do my night time devotional reading. I am always encouraged by the Word of God itself but also by the various spiritual insights shared by Dr. Tozer about some aspect of living the Christian life. If you enjoy reading the Word of God devotionally and you also enjoy the writings of A. W. Tozer then you will find this Bible to be a delight to your soul…being a Bible you will refer to often for spiritual feeding, nourishment and encouragement.
I have received a complimentary copy of the A. W. Tozer Bible from Hendrickson Publishers for my reviewing it.
This self taught, self educated man, with no formal theological training, had a consecrated and holy walk with God that is so evident in his writing. I have been blessed many times over by reading his selected writings scattered throughout this study Bible. I would like to read the entire body of his books. He authored eight books.
This is not really a study Bible, although it does include cross references and intros to each book. The introductions to each Bible book are concise and good. They are easy to read. Various Tozer writings appear on many pages, applicable to the Scripture at hand. I’ve never before read any of his works, as far as I know, but these included passages are very apropos and seem like they were written for current events. They are easy reading, and in fact, this whole Bible is more pleasurable to read than a study Bible.
The study notes and book intros are short and concise. For that reason, I think I gained a whole new insight and a clearer understanding of the overview of the Bible. The “bare bones” approach is a valid learning tool when it focuses on just the important highlights. At least, it was a great aid for me. I very much enjoyed reading the A. W. Tozer Bible.
The footnotes are of little help. They are about 90% of the time unnecessary for understanding or actually nonsensical and confusing.
Tozer was a CMA pastor for ? years. Born in PA. Family moved to Akron, OH.
This study Bible is Tozer’s reflections on certain verses, as well as devotional thoughts from his writings. It is not a verse by verse commentary. It is more devotional in nature. It does include helpful introductions to every Bible book.
While the King James version is not my everyday choice, I treasure it for its historical value and its beauty. The Psalms in particular are unsurpassed in the KJV. This edition provides a bonus: pithy paragraphs strategically sprinkled throughout the text written by the venerable A.W. Tozer. The quality of the leather and pages is very good and this is a great Bible for devotional use.
