As part of the America's Haunted Road Trip series, Ghosthunting Michigan takes readers along on a guided tour of some of the Great Lake State's most haunted historic locations. With a background in library science, author Helen Pattskyn researched each location thoroughly before visiting, digging up clues for the paranormal aspect of each site. Her approach to each site allows readers to decide whether or not the ghost stories are really true. In Ghosthunting Michigan, Pattskyn takes readers along as she explores some of her home state's most haunted locations, starting with a visit to the Whitney in Downtown Detroit. Some of the other sites include Belle Isle, historic Fort Wayne, the Grand Plaza Hotel, Eagle Harbor, the Point Iroquis Lighthouse, and many more.
A cute read, somewhat informative. Not written how I would like a ghost-hunting book, but great if you just want to read some personal accounts of ghosts around Michigan. It's written very informally, and there's no good way to piece out the solid ghostly evidence from the story. In all, a fun read, but not one I would keep in my ghost hunting library.
I wrote it, of course I think it's pretty cool! ;-) Ghosthunting Michigan was a *lot* of fun to write. I got to do three of my favorite things: travel, talk to people, explore the paranormal--and then write about it! I met some truly amazing and wonderful people along the way, too.
I began my trek in the U.P., then came home for a bit and explored places in my home town (metro-Detroit), then went west, north, and into the thumb, ultimately visiting a little over 30 locations (only 30 got written up for the book). In addition to visiting historically haunted locations around the state, I had to do my homework, but anyone who knows me, knows that I love research. And of course, I took *tons* of pictures, not just for the book, but of cemeteries that I passed (alas, no orbs), and nature. (Lake Superior was awesome!!)
I hope y'all enjoy reading it, and get a chance to visit some of the amazing places I went. Michigan is so full of history, it was truly an incredible journey.
Oh yeah, and my romance readers can expect a book or two about falling in love at a haunted bed and breakfast in the near future.... ;-)
This nonfiction was a nice selection of ghost stories and places that are supposedly haunted. I liked all the little tales of Michigan and definitely feel like I want to look into them at some point. I would have appreciated it if the author gave a little more detail to some stories and made an effort to investigate these claims and not just write them down. I understand that she is just an author but maybe next time get an author who would be willing to investigate. I did find this interesting due to my love of the paranormal and my own experiences that have taken place, I think that for someone who is getting started at being interested in the paranormal (and preferably lives around or in Michigan) this is a good introductory book to read. There were points where the author elaborated on some things that you have to have the background knowledge to understand and the author tells what these things are. Nice book and I actually liked the author's writing style.
I enjoyed the history information but the sarcastic tone the author tends to have really ruined my enjoyment of the book. I do enjoy hearing skeptics views on the paranormal but sometimes this came across as downright insulting towards believers and the people being interviewed.
I really liked this book because she told the history of each place. I have planned to go to some of the places in the book with family to see if we see any ghost.
