Whether preaching or witnessing, speaking is a critical communication tool in almost all facets of Christian life. This book brings the Bold Assurance concept to Christian leaders and laypeople, giving them a tool to help them use their minds, mouths, and beings to communicate effectively. Readers will learn the tools for powerful and effective communication based on two things: biblical truth and proven concepts from the business world. For the first time, Christian laypeople and leaders alike can reap the benefits of speaking boldly and skillfully by understanding how God uses us as communicators.
As far as a technique book in communication goes, this is quite good. The problem lies in the fact that the final unit of material is literally a repeat of much of what comes before. Also, it forgets that it is not specifically a book on preaching, although it frequently tries to connect its techniques for making better speeches relate (or, more appropriately, replace) solid biblical exegesis and rhetorical construction. The units on the basics of their concept of "bold assurance" and on the basic behavioral skills needed in communicating are certainly worth the (used) price of this book. But, preachers beware...this is a book that will help become a better speaker but not a better handler or communicator of Scripture.
This book is helpful for learning how to communicate well. It's a good "nuts and bolts" book for public speaking. I found parts of the book extremely helpful, and I might actually consider using it if I were ever teaching a class on communication or preaching. However, I found some other parts of the book much less helpful, such as the Decker communication system.
