The Visitor

Rate this book
Two sisters live peacefully on a tiny, remote island. One day they receive a letter, telling them their cousin John is coming to visit. At first the sisters are delighted to have a visitor, but they soon tire of him wanting to bring order to their life of comfortable chaos.

First the taps are fixed, then the house is painted, and the sisters have to give up pancakes and eat muesli. Even the animals are made to live outside in case they spread germs.

A wise and witty story about different ways of living. It features large, beautiful illustrations that radiate warmth and good humour.

I think that we can all empathize with the plight of the two sisters who receive the visit of their well intended but completely self centered cousin. The cousin starts changing the lives of the two sisters saying that they need to become more modern. However, the sisters were very happy with their lives and see the changes introduced by the cousin as an intrusion. Everything ends well when the cousin leaves and the sisters return to their happy lives. Let's all avoid being the cousin.

Funny story. Two sisters receive their cousin's visit. This one is very different from his relatives and tries to impose his own stylelife to them. However, politeness is important in life.
