Unearthed

Rate this book
UNEARTHED is about a small isolated farming community during the 18th century that discovers an ancient chamber buried near their farmland. Within the chamber they find a demonic stone statue with a large erect phallus, seated upon a throne. During the nights that follow, the statue comes to life, and the wives of the farmers become entranced while being drawn to visit the chamber for sexual gratification. Soon afterward the crops flourish rapidly and prosperity for the village seems imminent. Many of the men begin to accept the evil that has come to their small community, as good and evil become unbalanced. Murders begin to occur and it is unclear exactly which of the men and women have been corrupted, and to what extent. Overall it is a tale of greed and the all-consuming terror a man feels when he realizes that he has lost control.

I became inspired to write classically-styled short horror after purchasing a collection of old horror tales at a yard sale. The book featured works by F. Marion Crawford, William Hope Hodgson, Seabury Quinn, le Fanu, Robert Chambers, and many other of the early masters.
