Kelsey Almeida has lived every one of her lifetimes in relative silence. Her voice is a lure, one that can overcome the strongest of wills. Magic has enabled the Siren to live a normal life...except when it comes to sex. When she's aroused, no charm can obscure the call of her voice.
Looking for a partner immune to supernatural seduction.
Nothing pierces the icy cool of Cain’s armor. A reaper can’t afford to be swayed by human emotions, even if he still has human needs. Kelsey’s voice heats his blood, but it’s the pleasure of unraveling her secrets that threatens to melt his self-control—and his heart.
How do you make a Moira Rogers? Take a former forensic science and nursing student obsessed with paranormal romance and add a computer programmer with a passion for gritty urban fantasy. Toss in a dash of whimsy and a lot of caffeine, and enjoy with a side of chocolate by the light of the full moon.
By day, Bree and Donna are mild-mannered ladies who reside in the Deep South. At night, when their husbands and children are asleep, they combine forces to unleash the product of their fevered imaginations upon the page.
I have to admit that I’m actually a bit behind on this series. I haven’t read the last 3 books in it but as these can be easily read as stand alones I couldn’t decline the chance to read this one.
Rogers’ Last Call series is a collection of short stories all set in the same place- Last Call, a bar where supernatural beings can sate their sexual needs without worrying about hurting someone unintentionally. The characters we meet usually have an ability which makes the hunt for a compatible sexual partner more than just complicated in real life. In Frostbite we have Kelsey- a siren. Her problem is that as soon as she says something her partners are so compelled by her voice they have to get off ASAP. Sounds nice at first but well she wants to be sated too and enjoy the journey. She wants to actually be craved because of herself and not only her voice.
On the other hand we have Cain- a dark and brooding guy with a wicked dry humor that made me chuckle. He’s a reaper and woman usually don’t go for that kind of job. I loved Cain- he’s all alpha male and still has this sweet and cuddle-worthy heart that makes us women swoon.
The one thing I need in a short story is to feel the connection to the characters. I know that some people say I shouldn’t be that harsh and expect this in such a short format but for me this connection is essential for me to like a book. Frostbite gave me this connection and I would happily read more about these two. I loved to see them “take shape” in my head and at the end I didn’t want to let them go.
The sex in this one is as hot as always. We have some BDSM and toy play but nothing too daring in my eyes. I loved to see these two discover each other. The sex scenes are full of witty banter and little teasing. I do like that. It made the whole book seem less tragic and made me even forget why we are at Last Call.
What I really love about the Last Call series is that the supernatural world it is set in always stays vague. We always meet another supernatural being be it a shifter, a demon or a siren. Frostbite was a short and entertaining read. You need some cheering up and have a free hour? Grab yourself a Last Call book and enjoy the ride- you won’t regret it.
This was another perfect vignette that captured a moment which could only happen in this world. The characters came across perfectly regarding who and what they were. The club has been established though we really do not have a concrete description of the place only pieces. The language changes for each character to show that they are individuals but because they are in the same place there are references that seem to come up all the time. I love the concept of these books.
Frostbite: Looking for a partner immune to supernatural seduction.
Kelsey Almeida has lived a lot of her life in silence, she is a Siren, and her voice can make men do anything she desires. Kelsey has gone to the Last Call to find out someone who will not fall at the first word she speaks.
Cain is a reaper who cannot be swayed by human emotion but does have human needs. He finds the Siren beautiful and knows that because of the ice in his veins her voice cannot move him to obsession like a mortal man.
The perfect couple once again brought together. Recommended just like the others because it is short but very entertaining, not to mention extremely hot!
Can we say WOWEE!!!! This book has been another joy to me after having read all the books previously writen for the "Last Call" Series .
I was NOT disappointed when introduced first to Kelsy and incredibly gorgeous yet sensitive Siren . Imagine the life you would lead just opening your mouth and say one word and men are dropping at your feet wanting to hmmm shall we say service you in anyway you or they can think of . Though you would not really be sure if it was you they were reacting to or your voice . What a delema . Enter Cain , Tall , unsmiling even stern looking , deceptively dressed as a stock broker but SURPRISE he is actually known as the GRIM REAPER !! Wow Moira you have a GIFT MY FRIEND !!! These two together ROCKED MY WORLD
I highly recommend this book to EVERYONE it is exciting , hot , naughty without being over the top . I know you will enjoy this as much as I did .
Thank you Moira I became a fan with the first book I read now You are on my TOP BOOKS TO READ list at all times .
For those that haven't dipped their toes into the waters of Moira Rogers' writing, this series is a fun, sexy one to start with. Each story is self-contained with some minor character crossover and they are Sex-ay with a capital S.
One thing I love about this series is that you get a wide variety of supernatural critters popping up. We've seen demons, witches, and werewolves in previous books and now sirens and reapers. It keeps things interesting and I love the backdrop of a bar where magic keeps them safe and allows them to let go. Did I mention the hot sex? Yeah, they have that, too.
Although this isn't terribly long, it's a fun, imaginative addition to the series. And for those of you wondering, I'm firmly in the camp that once their time at Last Call ends, they're going to trot off and eke out a happily ever after. One with lots of sexin'.
Kelsey is a Siren! Her voice lures in men and they do anything and everything that she wants. She is so tired of it! All she wants is for a man to tell her NO!! She goes to Last Call and makes sure that she keeps her mouth shut, orders a drink, and waits.
A man approaches her! He is soooo good looking. She approaches him and whispers in his ear, "Take Me Right Here"....Cain says NO!! She is almost done right there.
He takes her up stairs and controls the night.
Cain is a Reaper of Souls...he is cold inside and out. No smiling...Just So Serious! Yet, he finds that her voice boils his blood. Her voice makes him feel and SHE makes him feel good. He doesn't want to let her go. Again the story ends with hope that they might be perfect for each other.
Perhaps the best one of the series! It's hard to think of the Grim Reaper as being sexy, but Cain most certainly is, and he is the perfect match for Kelsey, a siren who is sick of her voice getting her any man she wants. The combination of supernaturals is a different one, and their relationship is incredibly hot. It ends surprisingly sweetly - who knew the Grim Reaper would have a kitten? - and I felt I could read much more from them.
Looking forward to the new Last Call book, Firecracker, coming soon :)
Hot and steamy, with a happily ending (in more ways than one - heh) despite the author's warning that these stories should be considered to be erotica rather than erotic romance.
I really enjoyed the fact that the heroine is a Siren and the hero is an Angel of Death -- not a combination we often see in romance, erotic or otherwise.
With a great basic premise (I love the idea behind Last Call in general), interesting characters, and of course, some absolutely scrumptious smexin', this is an easy keeper.
A short, steamy story of the meeting between two paranormals at a not so normal bar. I was a little confused about how the heroine moved a certain way when she had her arms chained together behind her, but overall this was a well written story between two paranormals needing to connect with another.
I liked all the stories in the Last Call series. This one had a wonderful pairing, a Siren and The Angel of Death aka Fire and Ice. If a fire burns hot enough even the ice cold reaper can melt.
Favorite line… “A reaper in a bubble bath? What an affront to the dignity of death.”
I can't imagine what a person would want when with their voice they can have anything. Turns out with Kelsey, it was to actually talk to someone without coercing them. As hot as the sex was between Kelsey and Cain, their conservations were the best, because they let each other know what exactly they wanted.
I downloaded this novella as part of the Last Call series set. I Really enjoyed the concept of a supernatural bar where your drink order announces to prospective partners what you are looking for. I really enjoyed the two main characters-- a siren and a grim reaper. It's a great combination and I liked the ease of their relationship. I thought this one was a winner.
Sexy, exciting, and so much fun! I love this series. I just wish I could sit and listen to Ms. Rogers talk this out! "So.... what supernatural this time? Siren? Ok! What would they need?" And so on! I truly hope that they continue this series!
I love this series. In each short story we get amazing characters, hot steamy sex and romance to ice the cake. Don't miss out on this one where Cain, a soul-collector - basically death, who thinks he is ice walking - is thawed by Kelsey, the siren who is looking for love.
This one was rhe best of all. It had an actual story with an actual ending. No wonder about it. Siren dates Death. Its 35 pages on a Nook, so I'm not going into a synopsis. Too much spoils it. It's worth the hour Max read!
5 stars rated against all of her stories, but really a 4 star read.
I loved this delicious and dirty little story. It's very short and yet brings in both the hero's and the heroine's backgrounds enough to show why they're perfect for each other.
Loved this whole series! Great pairing of Kelsey the Siren with Cain the Reaper and very HOT! Looking forward to more great short stories in this series!
