Buena idea pero un poco mal ejecutada. Mira que he leído cientos de comics en mi vida, pero nunca jamás había tenido que releer tantas hojas hasta dar con el orden correcto de las viñetas.

Ein schöner Beatles-Comic, im Original französisch. Wir sehen, streng chronologisch, das Leben der vier Beatles-Mitglieder (und einiger Randfiguren) von der Kindheit bis heute bzw. bis zu ihrem Tod. Dabei wird keine zusammenhängende Story erzählt, sondern die Bilder (die sind Fotos nachempfunden, die es wirklich gibt) und Texte sind wie unterschiedlichste Vignetten auf die Seiten gestellt, zum Immer-wieder-Hineinschauen. Die Zeichnungen sind prima und witzig, wie auch die Ideen, und einige Fakten wusste selbst ich noch nicht. Die einzelnen veröffentlichten Platten werden sehr subjektiv kritisiert -- manchmal ist das auch ganz lustig, manchmal nervig. Stark zu kritisieren ist aus meiner Sicht zum einen, dass die Schrift oft echt superklein ist (und ich kann noch GUT sehen, aber wie steht es mit den ganzen Alt-68ern?), und vor allem, dass ziemlich viele nervige Fehler von Seiten des Verlages drin sind. Keine Fakten, die falsch sind, sondern bescheuerte Satzfehler, die vermutlich beim deutschen Verlag (Carlsen) aus Schlamperei passiert sind -- zum Beispiel steht unter mehreren LPs der gleiche Titel, obwohl die Bilder oben drüber ganz klar was anderes zeigen -- klarer Fall von "Copy und Paste schiefgelaufen". Das hat mir das Lesen besonders gegen Ende ein wenig vergällt.

Una biografía atípica, plagada de anécdotas y datos curiosos. Un minucioso recorrido ilustrado por la intrahistoria de Los Beatles, desde su prehistoria hasta el 2019, la cual fue un recordatorio más de por qué amo tanto su música.
Tomando distancia de mi evidente fanatismo, hay que decir que el fenómeno Beatles siempre ha estado un tanto sobreexplotado. El merchandising, loa documentales, las películas, los libros que se han escrito, las canciones versionadas. Siempre venden. Pero en este libro, a través de anécdotas, curiosidades y una muy buena cronología, el autor realiza su análisis de la trayectoria del grupo siguiendo patrones desde el cómic. Lo analiza año a año, desvelando intimidades y anécdotas del mundo de la producción, desgrana y valora los contenidos de cada álbum, tanto de los Beatles como banda como de la carrera en solitario de Paul, John, George y Ringo.
Me gustó enormemente el estilo del dibujo del autor, tiene un toque caricaturesco. Es detallista y divertido, combina el blanco y negro con el color, utilizado solamente en las portadas de cada álbum.
A estas alturas de la vida, la historia de Los Beatles como banda y de los músicos, antes y después de la misma, es ultra requete conocida, pero tengo la percepción de que este libro le gustará a cualquier fan Beatle que quiera seguir ampliando colecciones y que siempre quiera saber más y más. Y a quien no es fan, de igual modo, podrá saber todo aquello que ya se ha contado pero narrado de una manera diferente y muy atractiva.
Comentario aparte es la edición de Norma Editorial. Es una edición en cartoné; de tapa dura, que en mi librero quedó maravillosa.

Da ich großer Beatles Fan bin, hat mein Freund mir Das kleine Beatles-Buch zum Weihnachten geschenkt. Ich wollte eigentlich Baby's in Black haben, aber es war eine schöne Überrasschung.
Mit dem Buch bin ich unsicher, wer das Zielpublikum ist. Das Buch ist wirklich die Geschichte der Band von 1940 bis letztes Jahr 2009 und ehrlich gesagt, wird es ein bisschen trocken dargestellt. Ich fand es super, dass es andere zeitnahe Informationen gab, besonders die Sachen, die wichtig zu der Geschichte der Beatles sind, wie z.B. ein bisschen über Yoko Ono, bevor sie John Lennon kennengelernt hat. Aber ein großer Fan von The Beatles weiss wahrscheinlich schon eine Menge drin. Vielleicht ist das Buch für das "casual" Fan, oder für jungere Leute, als Einsteig in der Geschichte.
Der Autor hat jeder Single und Platten drin und bewertet sie, auch sogar die Solo-Platten der Beatles. Seine Bewertungen sind ein bisschen einseitig und es ist offensichtlich, dass er großer Macca Fan ist (das Ende des Buchs ist seine Erzählung von dem Good Evening Europe Konzert im 2009). Obwohl Ringo viele Platten rausgebracht hat, ist der Autor ziemlich skeptisch. Ich gebe zu, ich bin kein großer Fan von Ringos Solo-Sachen, aber dass er Witze drüber macht, finde ich ein bisschen versnobt und unnötig. Das Buch hat auch musikalische Vorschläge, z.B. "Ihr mögt die Beatles; dann mögt ihr auch vielleicht Mr. Tambourine Man von The Byrds." Es ist auf jeden Fall super für jungere Leute, die nur die Beatles Musik aus den 60er kennen und ähnliche Musik finden möchten.
Noch ein anderes Problem war der Redakteur. Es gab ein paar Fehler, wie z.B. falsche Lieder auf die falschen Seite geschrieben (z.B. "Paperback Writer"/"Rain" sind 2x im Buch, obwohl das zweite Mal sollte "Strawberry Fields Forever"/"Penny Lane" sein) und falsche Rechtsschreibungen ("Hello Goodbye" wurde ohne e am Ende geschrieben, May Pang wurde ein Mal als May Fang geschrieben). Sowas regt mich auf, weil es ein veröffentliches Buch ist und jemand dafür Geld bekommt, um es durchzulesen. Scheinbar haben sie ihr Job nicht gut gemacht, aber sie sind kleine Fehler, die nicht so störend sind, nicht wie bei A Hard Day's Write.
Das kleine Beatles-Buch ist schön als Einstieg in der Geschichte der Beatles. Die Kunst ist ganz nett gemacht, obwohl es wenige Farben gibt. Vielleicht ist es ein bisschen verwirrend, weil es so viele Informationen auf Seiten gibt, aber es ist lesbar. Der Autor hat auch persönliche Meinungen und Erzählungen drin, die vielleicht für den Leser interessant sind; ich persönlich fand sie nervig, weil meistens sie nicht so relevant waren und ich das Gefühl hatte, er wollte seine Meinung nur ausdrücken, wenn er dachte, das hier ist witzig oder wichtig zu erzählen, obwohl sein Kommentar nicht unbedingt etwas zu der Story bringen würde.

The original book is written in French and it is only available in translation in German at the moment. My boyfriend gave it to me for Christmas thinking it'd be a nice gift, although I had had my eye on Baby's in Black. Even so, I'm a big Beatles fan, so it was a nice surprise and I'm always happy to get anything Beatles related.
My first reaction to the book was that I am really unsure who is the target audience for the book. The book chronicles the band's history from 1940 to last year, 2009, in a pretty dry, factual manner. However, I thought it was great how there were other contemporary historical facts laid out, especially the ones that were relevant to the history of the Beatles, like what Yoko Ono was up to before she was even on John's radar. Perhaps the book is for the casual fan or younger fans as an introduction to the Beatles' history; the majority of hardcore fans probably know all of the history in this book already.
The author rated every Beatles album and single, as well as their solo work. I think the ratings are a bit one-sided because it's pretty obvious that Bourhis is a huge Macca fan (he even ends the book with when he first saw Paul on his Good Evening Europe tour in 2009). Ringo has released several solo albums and Bourhis makes sarcastic jibes. Granted, I am not a fan of Ringo's solo work at all, but I found the author's comments at times a bit snobby, condescending, and really unnecessary. On the other hand, the book has a lot of great musical suggestions, like, "If you like the Beatles, you might like Mr. Tambourine Man from the Byrds." Definitely great for younger fans that are unfamiliar with the Beatles' contemporaries/influences.
One other problem I had was the editing. I hate bad editing. There were a few mistakes, like repeating song names on the wrong page (for example, "Paperback Writer"/"Rain" is in the book twice, although the second time the author is actually talking about "Strawberry Fields Forever"/"Penny Lane" and it is only obvious if you know your Beatles singles) and spelling errors ("Hello Goodbye" is written without the final e, May Pang is written once as May Fang). Editors get money for doing their job and I hate it when it's not done properly. There weren't nearly as many mistakes as in the book A Hard Day's Write and it wasn't as distracting either.

Sometimes it was a bit confusing because there was so much information packed into the pages, but it's still readable. The author has his own opinions and little personal anecdotes that could be interesting for the reader; I personally found them to be annoying because they weren't necessarily relevant and I had the feeling that he only wrote something in to be funny or he thought it to be important, though it brought nothing to the story itself.

Una biografía del grupo más famoso de Liverpool, amena, entretenida y lleno de cosas y datos muy curiosos. Se nota que ha sido muy trabajada, tanto en la documentación, como en el guión y los dibujos. Además, creo que aporta una gran visión de lo que fueron y son todavía, los Beatles, centrándose en los más importante: su música. En este aspecto, me sorprendió los comentarios del autor, cuanto menos acertados y muy lúcidos, propios de una persona que conoce el tema. Y, aunque a veces no estuviera de acuerdo con ellos, han logrado gustarme.
En suma, estamos ante un gran cómic, con grandes dibujos, que narra la historia de un grupo, Los Beatles, mundialmente famoso, incluso después de llevar separados más de 40 años y estar dos de sus miembros muertos desde hace tiempo.
Solo me resta recomendárselo a todo el mundo, tanto a los que se quieran iniciar en la "beatlemania", como aquellos que, aún sin haberlos conocido como grupo, somos fans iniciados y versados en su historia.
En suma, estamos ante un gran cómic, con grandes dibujos, que narra la historia de un grupo, Los Beatles, mundialmente famoso, incluso después de llevar separados más de 40 años y estar dos de sus miembros muertos desde hace tiempo.

A really fascinating bio of The Beatles from their early beginnings and previous band members to their break-up, marriages, and solo careers right up until present day. I love the Beatles and this book kept my interest the whole way through and taught me so many small tidbits along the way. Some of the colour mixes made the text hard to read but a minor flaw in an excellent book.

Oeuvre très fouillée qui présente sous forme de cases et en ordre chronologique des faits, des anecdotes sur les Fab four ainsi que des éléments contextuels d’ordre varié. Chacun de leurs albums (en groupe ou en solo) est décrit et critiqué par l’auteur, qui est loin de se montrer complaisant. Les dessins parfois caricaturaux sont très réussis.

Más que una biografía es una cronología de hechos, curiosidades y momentos claves de los Fab Four y de ellos en solitario. Para todos los públicos, incluso si eres un fan que ya lo sabes todo es una obra muy amena. Las opiniones y chascarrillos puntuales dep autor, a veces acertados, a veces no.

This is a fabulous (Fab Four-bulous?) book, which presents the well-known story of the Beatles in graphic format. All the highlights are here: the Fab Four's various childhoods, the stint in Hamburg, the rise to monumental fame, the group's dissolution, their solo projects and where they are today, or at least as of 2010, when this was first published. A great deal of this will be familiar to those who have more than a passing familiarity with the Beatles' story, but there were quite a few things I did not know and was surprised to learn.
One of the really interesting aspects of this book is that it was originally written in French, giving the story a perspective you don't always see when trawling through the massive backlog of Beatle books. The translation is idiomatic for the most part, but for something as deeply personal as this book, it also retains a great deal of the original's flavour and verve. I especially liked the author's commentary on the various albums and singles, which he rates and appraises within the context of the band's entire catalogue. As a passionate fan, he of course has his own opinions, which are fun to read.
The artwork is excellent -- many drawings are reproductions of photos that fans may recognize from other books or Beatle calendars (I had plenty of those in years past) and are very well done indeed. The layout is good as well. The only issue I had was that some of the text blocks seem to have been messed up in the translation -- a few blocks are repeated or are juxtaposed with the wrong illustration. Of course there is a lot going on in all of these pages, so it is understandable (although regrettable) that some things might slip through the cracks.
To sum up, this is definitely recommended for the hardcore Beatles fan. More casual fans may want to check this out at the library before making a decision on whether to purchase. Either way, well worth reading.

O Pequeno Livro dos Beatles é uma fofura. Hervé Bourhis parece que gostou da brincadeira que fez em "O Pequeno Livro do Rock" e resolveu estender esse projeto para a banda que provavelmente é a maior de todos os tempos. O traço de Bourhis é muito bonitinho e ele escreve com muito humor e leveza. Nesta HQ é retratada a trajetória do grupo inglês desde antes de sua formação, passando pelos anos da Beatlemania, pela separação do grupo até se focar apenas na carreira solo de seus integrantes. É muito mais do que contar uma história, presta uma homenagem à banda e a memória do autor, como um tributo à importância que a banda tem em sua vida. Capaz de te deixar bem sentimental ao final da leitura, como eu fiquei. Sentimental, mas feliz e otimista, feito o Paul, e o George Harrison que sempre será o meu beatle favorito.

Excelente libro que toma anécdotas y hechos de los Beatles, antes, durante y despues de la separación del grupo. Libro muy ameno y entretenido con varias anécdotas desconocidas para mi y otras ya del dominio público. Además el formato de libro es como si fuera un cómic, no tiene fotos, todo es a dibujo lo cual no demerita y me parece que lo hace más ameno, menos formal.
Aunque no tiene número de páginas el libro lo puedes abrir en cualquier página y seguir leyendo sin ningún problema.
Un libro que si valió la pena comprarlo. Recomendable.

Interesting and well done, though some of the color choices -- black text on dark red, and purple? -- make some parts hard to read. The art is nice -- some interesting reinterpretation of album covers and iconic photographs -- but there's nothing new here for Beatlesfans. For noobies, though, this may be revelatory.

Nicely designed and beautifully illustrated although it could have done with better proof reading particularly towards the later parts of the book where too many printing errors occur. Some of the captions in the early pages are illegible - very small white fonts on dark backgrounds just do not work.

Mooie illustraties en veel kleine, mooie anekdotes. Helaas ook een aantal feitelijke onjuistheden, die de geloofwaardigheid van de talloze andere obscure feiten onderuit haalt. En de recensies van alle albums zijn overdreven subjectief - en niet noodzakelijkwijs geschreven door iemand met veel verstand van muziek.

This graphic novel doesn't disappoint when it comes to giving a complete and detailed overview of the Beatles' history accompanied by some awesome drawings, but it's clear that the creator of this book is not the world's most eloquent writer nor the most structured one.

Fairly un-essential reading, but I enjoyed the comic depictions and the way so many ideas and events from the timeline were crammed in. It's well executed, it's just that any Beatles fan/scholar knows most of this content already.

Lots of Beatles trivia, you can pretty much flip to any page and just read something randomly. However, like anyone ever who's authored a Beatles book, there is some bias. (Yoko bad, no mention of John cheating on Cynthia)

Leuk boek. Hoewel bijna geheel zwart-wit, is het een kleurrijk portret van de "Fab Four". Een persoonlijke kijk op leven en werk van de Beatles. Onderhoudend en informatief.

Muy entretenido compendio de anécdotas por año, complementado con pequeñas reseñas de los álbumes de los Beatles y sus integrantes. De agradece la honestidad, no todos son perfectos.
