Finding Mrs. Wright

Rate this book
All Devon Wright wants is peace and some time to chill with his boys. He's jerseyed up and waiting for his boy, Charles, to show up with tickets to the Atlanta Falcons' season opener. Instead, at his front door he finds "Satan's little sister," aka Quartisha Shauntae Randall, his baby momma. Once again, she's dropping off their daughter unexpectedly and ruining his plans.
Devon doesn't mind, though. His daughter, Brianna, is the most important thing in his life. He's worried about the poor example Shauntae (He refuses to EVER call her by her first name) is setting with her ghetto-fabulous lifestyle. He can't believe he ended up with such a crazy baby momma. He's vowed to stay away from all women for a while--until Charles introduces him to Cassandra.
Cassandra is nothing like Shauntae. She's a good, church-going woman. Devon is pleasantly surprised to find out that Cassandra's not what he thought a Christian woman would be. Cassandra Parker is not only fine; she's also smart, sassy, and sexy. Devon is intrigued, and he wants to get to know Cassandra better, but how will he be able to handle his daughter, his crazy baby momma, and a new woman in his life?

Devon Wright is a single dad clearly doing the right thing. Quartisha Shauntae Randall is Brianna's mother but she hasn't truly filled the position. After a near death scare of their daughter, meeting a 'good Christian' woman, reclaiming his relationship with God, and several unforgivable acts from Shuntae - Devon mans up and takes control of his life. Will the decisions be Godly? Will the females in his life survive his hardened heart? You will have to read the tale to find out.

Lewis continues to write stories out of the ordinary. The novel isn't too preachy and shows African American men in a positive light. The original storyline is refreshing while the underlying love story will prick your heart. We should all makes sure our relationship with God is well established before opening to anything (or anyone) new. Not sure who decidd on the cover for this book but if Devon has a clean-shaved head why doeshe have a afro on the cover? Portions of the story were predictable and a few places made me want to shout at Devon but overall a 4-star read.

I really enjoyed this book! Devon has a baby momma who is only concerned about getting the child support check from him. She only keeps her daughter on the weekends! The daughter, Brianna gets sick and they find out she has diabetes. Her mother Shauntae can't even let her sickness cause her to be a better mother. Cassandra is a church going, God fearing woman who likes Devon and he likes her. Read the book to find out how they change each other's lives. I'm on to the 2nd book.

This was a great book, it is a reverse of books we generally read about men stepping up to the plate with his child although it is not novel we just get use to reading about the struggle a woman has when the husband doesn't step up to the plate.

Deveon Wight does not seem to have a problem being a father to his daughter although she is living with her Mom who does not seem to be "Mom" material that is until she started talking about some of her Mom's visitors and so he now has her staying with him. She is just so lovable that one has to wonder how she survived in her first environment.

In addition to Deveon stepping up to the plate and taking his daughter to live with him was how the author wove a health problem which happens to young people "diabetic" and he became award of this illness and wanted to learn as much as he could about it to effectively help his daughter, not her mother who just didn't get it. Although she was painted in a negative way and rightly so I just would have liked to hear another word used instead of "baby mama" I am sure there are some who may embrace this title but I just didn't like it , We know there are women who just are not mother material but instead have their eyes on the street.

But what a blessing to have Cassandra in both of their lives and her impact on this young girl and being true with herself with Deveon about sexual encounters before marriage in her relationship with God and didn't have a problem letting him know. With his parents loving Cassandra, his daughter enjoying learning from her at Sunday School and other places, Deveon having a male friend who had committed to his soon to be wife all which is examined by Deveon especially since he was in love with Cassandra.

Okay. This is Book 19 of my 2014 Book Challenge (challenge to read 20 books). I truly enjoyed this book. It was refreshing to read about Devon, his love for his daughter, his committed parents and his journey back to God. The book was entertaining and not preaching.

In essence, the book spoke to the fact that: A life built around anything other than God sits on a shaky foundation. Devon got this message in different ways from his friend, Cassandra and his parents. It was even revealed through the relationship with Shauntae.

No matter who gives us the message....we can't understand it or embrace it until we are ready. the story line refelects that:
1. We are all imperfect and thus there are no perfect relationships.
2. We crave intimacy but we fear vulnerability.
3. Hurting people hurt others.
4. We all have different connections. Some of the connections are healthy and some unhealthy.

Devon and his friend began to look at relationships differently. Cassandra refused to compromise herself again for a man....she wanted a man who loved the Lord. Devon's parents prayed for him and wanted him to live right...if not for himself...for his daughter. And Shauntae continued to run....the strane thing about running is wherever we go...we take us.... My take on the book: In order to find "Mrs. Wright....One has to find Himself."

Well, this was my first read from Ms. Lewis...it is definitely not going to be my last.

I detest the phrase "baby mama"...but er um...that's all that Shauntae...or Quartisha is! That chick is a hot mess from way back! When I read it, all I could think was...what kinda mother does this?

Here we have a classic role reversal. Devon is far from a deadbeat dad. He has shared custody of his daughter Monday through Thursday and his daughter goes to spend time with her mom Friday through Sunday...(or something like that...)...She is a bit triflin' and often has "emergencies" and comes to drop their daughter off at Devon's door with not so much of a, "hey dog..."...On top of that...HE PAYS HER CHILD SUPPORT! Are you kidding me? Then she has the nerve to cut the monkey!

In walks Cassandra....oooooooh wee! Cassandra is the kind of woman who has her stuff together! She is NOT one to mess with. She knows what she wants and is not afraid to say it. She is trying to please God...and that's what's important to her.

I loved this story and I can't wait until the sequel! (I'm always gettin' caught up in a series!)

Highly recommended for you (us) hopeless romantics out there!

This is my first book by the author. I truly enjoy reading this book. I read this book in two days. I love books that keep my attention. That Brianne was something else and she was so smart for her age. I cannot not wait to read the next book. If you are wondering if you should get this book then you need to go ahead and get it. You will not be disappointed at all. I also have to say, I love the way Cassandra handle herself with Shauntae and standing firm in her faith. I can learn a lot from a person like her when it come to dealing with people like Shauntae.....Lord knows I can.

This was a very good book. I don't like a lot of Christian fiction but this was a surprise. It was very realistic and had me hooked. Read it in 1 day. This book had all my favs, comedy, drama, and romance. Loved all the characters, even Quartisha the baby mama, because they seemed real. Devon gave his baby mama every chance plus 3 but Ms. Thang would not get it right and she still did not redeem herself at the end.

I finally did get the app to finish downloading all the audio book chapters and I finished listening to this this morning. This was definitely something different for me, although I have read Christian romances in the last while.

I enjoyed this book, it made me cry and laugh and smile and cry some more. It was just a really good book and I could tell that the author really did her research. It seemed like she always had to give a street name.

This is a good quick read. I have a daughter who is diabetic so I could really relate. The mother in this book had to be one of the worst ever but kudos to great dads!!
