I really enjoyed this play (more than Ciphers, the other King play I've read), and would love to see it performed... would also make an intriguing film. I love when a playwright creates a slightly alternative world, and really fleshes it out, as King does here. Kind of reminded me in an odd way of 'The Handmaid's Tale', but without the feminist trappings.

Fascinating psychological drama combining 1984 and The Crucible, as a zealous investigator calls at a farm to look for evidence of 'infestation', in a world where the fox has been hunted to near-extinction and is now the mythical enemy and scapegoat for all society's ills.

Great writing, wonderful clear characters, sparse but fully detailed, though it doesn't need the stage to succeed. My query would be over what it is telling or asking us, so many echoes of other dystopias (1985, Handmaid's Tale) and other tragedies (The Crucible). I felt I'd seen these characters before in other text (Ellis Peters perhaps?) So what is the new message? Is it for its time, is it the setting in a realistic England that disturbs so? originality is what stops it being a 5.

Really enjoyed this one. Dystopian England, small cast, very clear characters - great story, great world.

Mindfucking 😅 but a good one, a play that makes you think and leaves you wondering what you've just read... If I had to describe it I would say it has 1984 vibes

Really interesting concept. Think this could have been longer and the system of government better explained, but I loved reading it, it was very gripping and exciting.

brilliantly Arthur Miller-esque. “I just shot a fox” absolutely devoured. love a deranged Abigail-variant antagonist.

I think what I just read was a slightly more personal version of 1984. Equally disturbing, if not even more emotionally violent, and generally just better characters though. I hated all of them obviously but at the same time I could understand their behaviour.

Interesting play with intense symbolisms, but without a pick.
