Eyelid Lick

Rate this book
Eyelid Lick is borne out of individual psychedelic experience into a world of streaming communication. These loose, runny poems seek intimacy through testimonial. There's the sensation of the lick, and the sensation of being licked, and if both people know each other enough both sides of the lick can be felt. Assam, Not hate, not no capability to find them cute, or charming, or things. Because there's going to be a baby in the backyard. And because the lambs hang low in the trees. I am so not fucking around. Like a name strangling its body, I'll forget it, too. I'll say one thing, and then completely forget it. I'll remind you of something known to We could have gotten away with so much more. Donald Dunbar lives in Portland, Oregon, where he co-curates the reading series If Not For Kidnap and teaches poetry to future chefs at Oregon Culinary Institute.

About this book:
* It is a good size for a book. It does not take up a whole shelf, nor will it get lost on one.
* It has a glossy cover, which in some cases I do not like, but in this case, the glossiness really brings out the colors of the image.
* There are probably 60% more words than you would find in most other poetry books, but most of the words are excellent.
* There is maybe too much vulgarity for some people, but if you're like me (in hideous kill-me-kill-me pain for your whole waking life) you might find the vulgarity a comfort.
* There is no author photo on the book.
* It wasn't that the walk brought me pleasure, or gave any relief to even the most minor bits of my pain and terror, but I finally knew that I was condemned to suffer--that I am The Sufferer--and that a walk outside, in the cold, past the disgusted stares of the neighbors, would give me access to a spectrum of pain that I had forgotten about, or that I had never really faced directly enough to feel.

This is one of the best books of poetry I've read in the past five years. I already have a well-worn loaner in rotation.

My friend says I'm such a fan girl. I'm glad. Look my cheeks are made of expansive paper. Look my cheeks are made of football stadiums. I love this thing. The book. I will never think about helicopters the same way. There is a poem in this book that I read two years ago that changed the way I thought about how I could write my poems. I was so glad someone else was thinking about how the whole page could heal/feel/wheel around your feelings. STRETCHERS FOR EVERYONE. Universal Belch Care. Donald Dunbar is the king of sand. I am the frozen mammoth baby outside his yurt.

Jesus, why hadn't I read this before. Instantly among my favorites. Gut busting. Fantastic. I read it three times in a row. I should buy this for everyone.
