Steven Furtick is the founder and lead pastor of Elevation Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, named by Outreach magazine as one of the top 10 fastest growing churches in the nation. In four years, Elevation has grown to more than 6,000 people in regular attendance in three locations. Steven holds a degree in communication from North Greenville University, and a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Holly, have two young sons—Elijah and Graham—and make their home in the Charlotte area.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was similar in some ways to Pastor Steven‘s sermons on TV. I appreciated the personal examples from daily life that he used to illustrate his points. Many of us sabotage ourselves by overcritical thinking, by comparisons to others, and useless speculation. This book reminds us how important it is to actually control your attitude, your perspective and your thoughts. Do not accept every thought that comes into your mind as valid. Try to be aware of what you’re thinking, and line your thoughts up with God’s word. Explore why you’re criticizing yourself, or feeling fearful, anxious, etc. instead of praying. I took my time reading the book and found it very practical.
