Once upon a time, I was a big fan of this band. Unfortunately, that changed with the release of their sophomore album when they started singing about casual sex. Then it turned into a thing where I only liked some of their songs, but I still have all the albums. This book takes you through their backstories and what it felt like for them to go through the original XFactor in Britain and eventually getting teamed up to be One Direction. It also, if memory serves, talks about their first tour.
I confess that when their first album came out years before I got engaged when I was crazy about Niall Horan, I was disappointed to find out that he was straight. Never did I think I had a chance with him, but still disappointing. Now that they've broken up, -- and I think they were when I read this in November of 2016 (and then I forgot to add it) -- it was at least interesting. 3 stars.
One Direction: What Makes You Beautiful contains lots of large, HQ images which will please fans of the band. The information on each of the individual members of the band is a little lacking, but that might be due to the lack of concrete information available. I found this to be a good introduction to the band and its start.
As with most fan guides for musical artists, this book has a lot of "fluff" in the form of pages of information on other topics (the X Factor and specific information about the show's judges). This was happily kept to a minimum in this book, however.
A lot of people might ask why I'm giving my favorite band a two star on one of their books. This book is not official. The boys had nothing to do with this book. This book stops every chapter to talk about other people like Adam Levine. Adam is not really a great role model so it is not appropriate in a children's book. I knew everything in this book already. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
