Finn Marlowe is a paralegal by day and erotic (M/M) romance novelist by night. She believes daydreaming is a vastly underrated pastime and probably spends way too much time at it. Her kids no longer ask what’s wrong when they spy her staring off into space—they just assume she’s writing a scene from her next novel and they’re probably right. Paranormal romance is her favorite genre to write, and the story’s usually on the dark side because she still believes in things that go bump in the night.

Finn calls British Columbia home and when she’s not enjoying the beautiful outdoors, she’s inside reading or resenting the fact her kids are better video game players than she is. If there were more hours in the day, she’d like to become a better artist, a greener gardener and learn to speak Spanish. Since she believes all dreams are possible if you don’t give up on them, she expects to regain her video game hi-scores, naturally vanquish all garden pests and finally paint what lives inside her imagination. As for speaking Spanish, well, she’ll settle for learning to pronounce all the good curse words.

I really enjoyed Dane and Court's story. The beginning was very intense, probably one of the most intense opening chapters I have ever read! I did get a little confused at times throughout the book, but nothing too major.

Dane was fuckhawt! He knew how to design and execute complex, multi-orgasm plans...paying attention to every explicit detail. Fucking Hot!. These guys were really hot...and sweet together.

This was a unique, light paranormal story. Quite a bit of angst but a nice HEA in the end.

I agree 99.9999% with Jess's Review

A very different kind of paranormal romance. There is angst galore but humorous enough to temper it and tone it down. Courtenay is a healer and saves Dane after a tornado left him for dead. Dane and Court knew each other as kids and Court recognized him and felt compelled to save him.

Court has a difficult time accepting his gift and even though he wants Dane he feels unworthy. Dane is a stubborn and horny guy who doesn't give up. He wants Court and does anything and everything to be with him. His commentary during sex is super HOT.

The dreams were kind of hard to follow but they were necessary to understand Courts "issues".

The guys find their HEA in the end but it was an uphill battle to the finish line.

The first chapter of this book is.... intense. Right from the start I was drawn into the story and the characters problems and didn't want to put the book down.

Dane is a man who's sick of living in the city so he moves home after his brother's death. While working one day, he gets caught right in the middle of a tornado. Crushed, and on the very edge of dying, Courtenay shows up from Search and Rescue. Courtenay knows Dane is dying, he can feel it but he also remembers Dane and he can't just let the boy he knew die. So, he heals him. Gifted with the ability to 'wish' people better, he gives Dane a second chance at life. When Dane heals, he's grateful that Court was able to save him but more than that he wants Court. And what Dane wants, Dane gets. Unfortunately for Dane, he didn't realize how messed up Court was or how many dangerous people want Court for his ability and they aren't afraid to resort to extreme measures to get him. This starts them on a roller coaster of a relationship that both Dane and Court want but Court believes he doesn't deserve.

I have to say I absolutely adored Dane and Court. Dane is so full of life. He's exuberant, abrasive, and quite a handful. Court is just the opposite. He's quiet, extremely broken and feels like he should have died during of a fairly recent event. It may not seem like it but Dane heals Court by being his forceful and blunt self. The two together are both hot and funny. Dane has a knack for making all these elaborate plans that Court hates sticking with but when Court makes the plans, they always turn out horribly. One of the things I really loved about them, though, is their references to when they were younger and the nicknames they had for each other then. It was just so cute.

I found the plot of the story rather interesting. The fact that Court can heal people by 'wishing' it better was both adorable and fascinating. And I liked the direction that the story went into. First we see the connection between Dane and Court and how intense it is. Then we get to see Dane and Court sticking together when knowledge of Court's ability gets to some rich people. And I really enjoyed the fact that we saw the story escalate to encompass and explain some of Court's past and the horrible experience he went through.

While I loved the story and the characters, there were a few things I had a problem with. For one, while the sex was very hot (Court and Dane are freaking smokin') there was way to much sex and was way too long. At least for my tastes. On top of that, I was confused a bit in the beginning because there were these dreams, while very important to the story later on, were rather confusing when you read them. However, the dreams are both horrendous AND sweet so I didn't much mind them.

All in all, I adored this story. It was both sweet and intense. I loved Dane and Court and what they have to go through. I'm very interested in whether we'll get to see more of them. Hopefully when we get more of Kiley and Markus! Definitely recommended.

3.5 stars.

Lights and shadows, it's the second book by this author I've read and she writes with a certain edge I like.

First the good things:

The main couple is hot, well matched, riveting. Court is the healer, but he came out of an abduction broken and removed from life, even if he literally owns the spark of life. Dane is energetic, bossy and never defeated. They are perfect for each other, because Dane is determined to help and fix Court in every aspect of life, being there even when Court doesn't want to admit he needs him. The sex scenes were long and maybe a bit too frequent, especially in the beginning, but they showed the traits of the characters' personality, and they were really really hot. Dane can ratchet up the level of excitement just by promising it. A wonderful dirty talker.

The paranormal aspect was interesting, but it hinted at a few things that weren't really developed, unless there's a plan for a sequel. As we learn in the story, Court is not the only one who has a super power, during his abduction he meets a guy who can ignite fires with his mind. Probably there are other people like them, and the enemies were looking for them, I don't know, but it was interesting and it wasn't really explained. Then there was an interesting aspect of Court's power: Court is afraid that when he heals someone, they are changed, or their metabolism is changed and their bodies have to compensate for it. It was another thing which had potential but was left hanging.

And now the not so good things:

The dreams were confusing and they didn't help the pacing, in my opinion. It was as if the story stalled, instead of progressing or being enlightened or making the reader curious. It was as if the symbolism was forced onto me, I don't know how to explain, but it didn't work. Anyway, the last dream was the best, very sweet, and it gave a good closure to the whole dream thing, and in retrospect it shed some light on it, but while I was reading I wasn't impressed in a positive way.

The bad guys were not so convincing. There was a good level of complication, but the religious aspect made the bad guys as fanatics and maybe it's me, but instead of making them into worthy opponents it made them into lunatics with a touch of stupidity. Underwhelmed.

So, it's a good story, with extremely exciting and interesting elements, but a tad too long or too complicated. The author can write characters that you'd like to slap for their exuberance, but are curiously lovable by the end.

Though early, the sky darkened, revealing impending doom through a set of broken windows.

4.5 stars. Very good m/m paranormal romantic suspense about a rescue worker who can heal with touch. When one of the people he's healed comes to find and thank him, neither of them have any idea how much their lives will change.

This review might contain minor spoilers, all major spoilers are hidden!

Okay this is a hard review to write because I have mixed reactions to the book. There are some things that clearly work really well. Then there was aspects of the book that really annoyed me. However in other books with the amount of issues I had I would only give this three stars but there is just something about this book that made me forgive and forget my pet hates.

I normally start with the positives but this time I will start with what didnt work for me:

Courts Dreams - I can understand how the author was trying to be creative but it didnt work for me. It interfered with the pacing of the story. I also felt that it was cheating in some ways. For example

The Pacing - As stated, I think the Dreams are the major issue for me. It would slow things down and confuse me. However about the middle of the book I thought things dragged a little bit.

The Bad Guys - I was a little bit confused with what to think about the religious nut job??? I wont say any more but it didnt really work for me It kind of came out of nowhere. Also the other baddies who then turned into goodies who then were still kinda baddies??? I dont know if I buy it.

The Disappearing Pyro and The Great Escape - The pyro came out of no where (he was mentioned earlier by religious nutter) but then disappeared after they made their escape. Nothing more was said about him, didnt Court want to know more? Dane didnt demand an explanation? It is a question that is left burning in my brain (get it burning, ha ha Pyro, get it, yeah I know it was lame).

Now onto what did work for me:

The sex - gotta get this out there and say that up front. I thought it was extremely hot how Dane would verbally plan out what he was going to do to Court in EXPLICIT detail - and then he would stick to the plan!! Hoo baby did he like to use his tongue SLURP!! not only was this HOT but it was also a creative way to help Court get over his issues. (I was reminded of Bubbles photo and his tongue, from then on I pictured Bubbles no matter how hard I tried not to)

Dane & Court - they both just fucking rock!!! I love Dane the most because he was so stubborn but at the same time caring, Funny but could be dead serious. Court was flawed and confusing but also fascinating and complex.

The Magical Power - I loved how Court had this miraculous power and NEVER ONCE did he mention that he was doing gods work or anything to do with god. It was just something he did. At first I thought it was kind of like The Green Mile but it ended up quite different.

The Action - the author didnt over do that action scenes so it was believable for two gutsy ordinary guys to survive. I enjoyed the kidnappings, drugging etc

Danes Solution - I love how Dane came up with an idea that would keep the semi baddies off Courts back. It was creative and not something I was expecting, I thought it was a very ORIGINAL idea from the author.

In Conclusion:

There is something charming about this book. That is why it is getting four stars from me. Hell I would probably pay the money just for the supernova hot sex scenes. BUT... this book has something about it that makes you think about it for days.

Countless times I read a book and then pfft its over done with and onto the next one. It is only one in every 30-40 books that has me dwelling on it for ages after.

This is only the second book by this author and I am amazed at her talent. While I did have a few issues with the book the authors style made me fall in love with it anyway.

This is one author to keep an eye on - Im expecting great things (no pressure)...

Sometimes a book comes out of nowhere. Sometimes it just smacks you in the face with how different and enjoyable it is. If you want one like that, here it is.

This story is what happens to Dane when his life is saved by Court, but not in conventional ways. Two men who knew each other as kids, have their lives intersect as Dane lies dying. Romance, intrigue, Court's dark past, all contribute to a very fun read.

I'm not going to go into more of the story because it needs to be read not revealed in a review. The characters are great, but Dane Harper has to be one of the funniest, endearing characters I've read in awhile.

I give it a static shock full of stars.

This book was one wild rollercoaster ride for me. I felt as though my brain and heart were going nonstop from beginning to end and when I got there, I had to take deep breaths just to settle myself down and relax.

I had a little trouble in the beginning with the dialog and getting confused as to who was saying what when, as they seemed to run together a lot, but that might have had to do with my reading device. Either way, it worked itself out and wasn't a problem after a while.

All in all, after being hesitant and unsure here and there, I realized that I really enjoyed this story.

I liked this book; it was very different from the majority of paranormal romances out there in that there are no vampires, or shifters... just a few humans with supernatural powers. Although, at the same time there's a lot of the same cliches, e.g. Courtenay trying to push Dane away because it's dangerous to be around the supernaturally-gifted 'freak'.

I have to say I did like the characters. Dane, especially, in all his slutty glory. However, it felt like there was maybe a little too much sex. Dane wants Courtenay to open up, he uses sex. Dane and Courtenay are arguing, they have sex. Book ends, they have more sex. The first half in particular, as Dane tries to seduce Court is laden with sex, sex and more sex. Now, I quite like sex, but it would have been nice to see their relationship develop outside of the bedroom too.

As for the plot, overall I liked it, but had a few niggles. Some of the conflict resolutions toward the end of the book appeared way too convenient for me. The unrefusable offer proposed at the end to get Remy off Court's back? Didn't seem so unrefusable to me. Surely a guy who is as powerful as Remy is, could have just said fuck it and forced them. And the firebug at the Sebastian's mansion? Was he there purely to give Court a way to escape? It just seems like he played his tiny role and then was gone... never to be heard from again.

My last niggle was the ending. It felt a little too long-winded for me and certainly could have been condensed.

Overall though, I'd recommend this book to those who don't mind a slightly longer book with a fair amount of sex, and who enjoy paranormal with a bit of difference.

Goddamn.

Dane and Court were sizzling. Seriously. Electricity in every touch. And, holy crap, was Dane the man with the plan. His plans were exquisite. Like an art form. Definitely gives a new meaning to planning for sex. As long as Dane is planning it count me in. I could give this book 5 stars on the sex scenes alone. They were pages upon pages long. Very nice!

Dane and Court could not be more opposite if they tried. Dane, having had a near death experience, is living life to the fullest. He wants what he wants when he wants it & doesn't take no for an answer. Court is scarred by tragic events, scared of what he is, and just going through the motions counting down to that one second that will end it all. But together, they are magical.

I will admit that not everything in the story made sense to me. There were a lot of dream sequences, several scenes hinting at dangers to come, and not all the passages came together in my mind. It was sometimes very wordy without always seeming necessary. But overall, it was a very intriguing and satisfying read.

Laugh out loud line by Dane the Pain:

"Revenge is a dish best served with a side of handcuffs and a hard ass-fucking. Remember that."

Oh, how I love that Dane! And "Mmm..." I loved Court's little breathless hum and sexy tics just as much!

Goddamn.

" Still drifting, he kept his sigh inside. Dying is so sweet. Does everyone hear that pretty song when they go? Outside of the dying, voices called out, back and forth, disturbing his peace. Loud, annoying voices, smothering the song. Shhhhh… be quiet! I’m listening. Can’t you see I’m listening? Don’t you hear it? Shhh… "

"Forever" intimately explores one of my favorite what if's, and somewhere around Ch 12 it occured to me that this could be one of the most deeply satisfying books I have ever read.... The story itself well written, creative, imaginative, yet completely believable to any possessing an open mind. The main characters 3 dimentional, fully realized, self expressive and likeable. In fact, a bit adorable. All of the secondary characters as well, maybe minus the likeable and adorable in some cases, but what they are not, is contrived, randomly tossed in for the sake of the plot.

Perfect set up for a sequel, yet still brilliant as a stand alone. "Forever in One Second" made my all time faves.

intriguing m/m para romance featuring tortured hero Courtenay who has the power to heal. He saves the life of the irrepressible Dane Harper who then pursues him relentlessly. Some intensely hot sex scenes between these guys! Assorted villains wish to acquire Court for nefarious ends.

A near death experience changes Dane's life - he gets a new outlook and decides to go after what he wants and what he wants is Court. "Well, I'm not gonna sit around and wait for that second to come around and get me. I want to live now. Might have just got lucky that day, I don't know, but I'm not gonna push it. I want all my seconds right down to the very last one. I'm greedy."

Court is the man who saved him, using his ability as 'a fixer' so pull Dane back from the brink of death. Court is facing his own demons, running from his past and the people who want him for his special skills.

The book starts in a rush of drama as Dane is caught by a tornado. What follows is mystery, with a story that keeps you guessing. There is a relatively complex back story involving Court and lots of characters. It is filled with action and drama - bad guys, kidnappings, shootings, foot chases, supernatural abilities...at times I did find it a little too much and wanted the drama resolved so the story could focus more on Dane and Court.

Dane persistently chases Court, determined to get his man, while Court tries to push him away, his internal voice whispering "Let him go...you don't deserve him...he's not for an unnatural thing like you. Let him go!". The men have strong bond and emotional tie and there is some sizzling sex.

And finally there is a happy ending. Court may be the one who is able to 'fix' people physically but Dane has his own 'fixing' ability. He is able to 'fix' Court, providing him with family, love and a way forward.

This had the potential to be a really fabulous book but somehow it just didn't come together fully for me. Don't get me wrong, I definitely enjoyed it, but considering the ingredients of the story, I would have expected to absolutely adore it. 3.5 stars.

I really enjoyed Forever In One Second. This is an unusual combination of contemporary and paranormal romance with not a vampire, werewolf, fairy or demon in sight. The story starts off with a bang with one of our MC’s caught in a tornado. Dane is at death’s door and Court, his rescuer, has just the super power he needs. With a super power comes heavy responsibility though.

Court walks in darkness and pain; at the mercy of his gift and on the run from those who would control it and him. Dane is a force to be reckoned with -- vibrant, cocky and self confident, he walks in sunshine and optimism and he wants Dane at all cost. Dark and light, they are such a complementary fit. Court’s gift brings them together and helps forge between them a delicious bond of desire and fulfillment. As it turns out Court and Dane actually know each other through Court’s childhood friendship with Dane’s brother and their relationship grows from that early acquaintance.

There is lots of action and adventure -- the story moves from the States to the Middle East to France. Oh, and there is a two chapter sex scene which unfolds in minute and glorious detail and leaves one squirming every bit as much as the chaps in the story. In the end the writing could have used some editing, tightening up, but this is such a different take on PNR M/M rom that it stands apart.

2.5 stars. - Even though I normally am a big fan of paranormal romance stories, especially ones with action and suspense, I could not get into this book. The MCs didn't really draw me in to care about them and their relationship. (I did like bossy, sunny Dane, but overall, I found their chemistry low and a little dull.)

I wasn't a huge fan of the story progression, or how things resolved. (But don't worry, there's an HEA.) Also didn't like how the author would switch POVs randomly. Most of the time it's with the MCs, but occasionally it goes to a side character. I understand that this method is to help with suspense or see a scene from a different perspective, but when it's used only occasionally, it feels a little lazy, like it was too hard to figure out how to stay consistent with the two MC perspectives, so a quick change to another character was used.

Anyways, your mileage may vary, and if you like your m/m romance with a paranormal twist, you may like this, but it was too wooden and dull for me and I skimmed a lot of it to get through it. :/

This is an interesting book. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea but it's….beautifully weird. I can’t find better words at the moment, but know they are meant as a compliment.

After a tornado Dane Harper is saved from mortal injuries by a man from search and rescue, a man with unusual, memorable eyes. Court Woods has to make a split second decision to save a man who he recognises as his former best friend’s (once) annoying, younger brother. They haven’t seen each other in quite a while, but a ray of sun, the beauty of Dane, and Court’s ‘ability’, all draw Court to make the split second decision to save his life.

As Dane recovers from his injuries he remembers his saviour’s eyes, they’re a piercing blue. He tracks him down, as he is thankful and intrigued. Forever in One Second explores the difference a second (time) can make in a person’s life – relationships, love, living life to the full, what could be, what may be lost. It is also about two men who have survived life threatening injuries and loss, but both handle their respective fates in a somewhat different manner.

I loved Dane's positive, never look back, joie de vivre attitude. He was witty and provided some laugh out loud moments. I loved that two strong women had a role in his personality. When there were problems or issues he would often times think of something his mother or grandmother had said to him. You know them, those sayings that become burned in your mind after the 100th relaying from parents/grandparents. Dane is pushy and strong willed, just what the lost soul that is Court needs. My lord, what a mouth – dirty ideas and planned sex just oozed off that tongue like honey dripping from a spoon.

Court is quite lost through most of this book due to PTSD and feeling like a “freak”. He has, at times, paralysing anxiety, zones out, can’t handle crowds, and is therefore isolated, and unsure what constitutes love. He is a “fixer’ and has a great desire to help those who are suffering. I've never been big on dreams in books but there are those that work. This is one of them. Anyone who has been through something as traumatic as Court - a major life event combined with an extended period of forced captivity - has serious dreams releasing information from the subconscious. In Court's case subliminal dream imagery was a major emotional need and guide for him, along with Dane’s strong, grounded optimism and plans, right up to, and including, the very end of the story.

I suppose this book could be deemed as paranormal, and I get that, but for me it was more psychological, incredibly visceral, with an edgy undercurrent. I understand Court's ‘ability’ and, while it was the catalyst for Court and Dane's pairing, I was absorbed by the two men coming together and working through a complex relationship.

The sex scenes were delicious and inventive, and H.O.T. Definitely erotic for both men whilst also being cathartic for Court and electric for Dane.

I loved the beginning of the book, it hooked me in and I adored the ending. If the book started with a bang then it ended with beautiful words that tied the story’s romantic aspect together. So many books either end abruptly or fizzle in a cheesy-easy way.

Why 4 stars and not 5? A couple of things, Kiley, the Aussie fire-starter that was held with Court in Paris, made the book off-kilter with his/their dialogue, and his now-I’m- here-now-I’m-not routine. Dane’s surgeon, I know he felt part of some divine intervention with Dane’s quick recovery, was a bizarre distraction for mine. Mostly, though, the use of exclamation marks killed me. I know that exclamation marks are in vogue right now, but it truly isn’t needed. When the writing is strong you get the emotions, when the writing is lousy...who cares. The writing was strong, so there was no need for the over use of exclamation marks. Obviously in stressful times or to make a strong point yes, but, please, Ms. Marlowe you don’t need to use them that much, your writing is good and I got the feelings just from your words, where the characters were, and what they were experiencing.

Forever in One Second is quite the journey. I couldn’t read it in one sitting, I had to process the characters sometimes. It was a good read with two intense and interesting protagonists who really worked as a couple. I’m glad they found one another. I definitely look forward to reading more from Finn Marlowe.

Excellent book! I was hooked within the first few pages and I didn’t want to put it down!! I understand where some of the other reviewers are coming from with respect to feeling a bit confused due to the dream sequences and feelings of lurking danger; however, I thought these things actually added to the air of mystery and intrigue for me. I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough to keep unraveling more and fitting the puzzle pieces together.

OMG – Dane and Court were amazing together and perfect for one another, but Dane in particular will be one of those characters that sticks with me. The term “infected with life” completely represents Dane’s personality and outlook on everything. After being given a second chance, he goes all out for what he wants. After all, “what Dane wants, Dane works at getting”, and Dane wants Court. Good thing Court wanted Dane too (even though he didn’t think he deserved him), because there is no denying Dane on a mission! As much as I loved Dane for his spirit and domineering ways, I also loved Court for his humble feelings and doubts. He just needed a combination of gentle coaxing and downright prodding at times in order to come out of his shell – again, Dane to the rescue!

The sex scenes were like fireworks on the 4th of July – a myriad of sparkling colors that exploded before your eyes with each new formation more awesome than the previous; the dialogue and banter between Court and Dane was very funny; the mystery created plenty of angst and hurdles to overcome; there was great use of symbolism and a very realistic feel to the aspect of the story dealing with Court’s PTSD; and among these things – also some very real emotions that brought both laughter and a couple of teary moments. Sounds like the perfect recipe for a fabulous book, doesn’t it?

This was the first book I’ve read by this author (her other one has been sitting on my TBR pile, but not for much longer…) and I’m very impressed. When I read the blurb after this book came out, I knew I had to read it immediately and I’m so glad that I did. Loved it – try it!!!

Forever in One Second is a lovely sentiment. The dedication at the beginning of the book was moving. It makes me wonder what happened to the author's husband. I have a guess, and if I'm right, it's sad. Eager to read the book, I'm a little disappointed.

In this story, Dane and Courtney meet again after years apart. Courtney was a good friend of Dane's deceased brother, Teddy. They meet when Court saves Dane's life. This was pretty cool. Court is a healer through laying of the hands. It's an amazing gift and this was pretty special. The concept behind the "Forever in One Second" is also great. The humour in this story was pretty good too.

What was not good for me and brought this book down from a 3 star to a 2.5 star was the editing. What happened here? I read one of Ms. Marlowe's paranormal romances and I LOVED IT! This book, it's all over the place. We have a Brotherhood that is mentioned in the last part of the book out of nowhere. There are unnamed groups after Court and it's not clear who these groups are. Dane's deal with the "Devil" Remy was odd too. Out of no where we have Pyrokinesis from god know where and then just magically disappears. There are threads all over the place left dangling. This is not what I expect from the talented Ms. Marlowe. It was very odd.

The sex in the book was decent. It didn't do much for me, but the two characters seemed to enjoy themselves a lot. The two characters were cute too, even if I was constantly confused as to who was saying what. I spent quite a bit of time re-reading to make sure I knew who said what. That tends to annoy me too.

This book is recommended for m/m romance readers who like brother's friend to lover stories.

When they were kids, Court was best friends with Dane's big brother, Ted. Now Court has moved back to town and he and Dane start seeing each other. Adventures ensue, including international travel, bad guys, gun fights, and close calls. The danger never feels that scary or real but more as a vehicle for both heroes to show off their cleverness and resourcefulness, but that was okay for me in this book.

If I hadn't read Thread of Deepest Black, I don't know if I would have had the patience to read through the beginning of this one. It started out with an action sequence that nonetheless dragged for me. However, once the two guys meet and start interacting with each other, I couldn't put this book down and read the rest of the book wanting to smile the whole time. The guys are really cute together, and all the (very lengthy) sex scenes here are both hot and humorous which is something I remember from Thread as well. The book is decently plotted, a very sweet romance, contains a number of good entertaining side characters, and is not a short book but in spite of some serious subjects is written with such a light tone that I blitzed through it.

Love Court & Dane. Dane was a force of nature, I love his intense determination. Court, while "broken" was not a wuss. Nice secondary characters, would love to hear more about Markus.

Glad I got it right away after reading Mountie's review. Well worth it.

I'm having a verrrrrryyyy hard time getting into this. It is much... odder than I was expecting. The writing style is unusual and I'm finding it to be a bit confusing. I think I'll try return to it at a later date.

Having a near death experience like Dane Harper does in 'Forever in One Second' by Finn Marlowe definitely gives you a new perspective on life. It reminds us how fragile we are and how we need to appreciate every second of our life as if it were our last, because it might well be. Along with Dane's newfound enthusiasm is his desire to find and thank Court, the man who saved his life. What he doesn't realize at the time is that when Court chooses to save Dane's life, he is also saving his own.

Court is a lonely, tortured soul; he's an ex-hostage suffering from PTSD. He's plagued with anxiety attacks and horrifying dreams, sometimes he has trouble discerning which fears real and which are imagined. As if that weren't enough for anyone to manage, Court has an amazing ability to repair physical injuries. He's overwhelmed by it; he considers himself a freak and his gift a curse. Even though he uses it to help people, he's also seen the dark side of this skill and it terrifies him. He needs someone to take him in hand and help Court regain control of his life and find the redemption and love he deserves.

Dane, ‘the Pain’, as Court affectionately calls him, is something else! He's a take-charge kind of guy who always has a plan, especially in bed. When he wants something, he makes it happen. Even though Dane can be pushy and arrogant, he's also providing Court with a sense of security which is something Court desperately needs. Dane supports Court until he can do so himself; he takes charge until Court can do so himself. Dane is determined to help Court see himself, not as a freak of nature, but as the special, awesome man that he is.

'Forever in One Second' was different than I expected; I thought it would be more about healing and was pleasantly surprised when it turned into a suspenseful story full of angst, adventure, intrigue and passion. In fact, this story has some of the most intense lovemaking sessions that I've ever read. They are sensual and beautifully portrayed as Dane, following one of his famous plans, literally talks us through them which only makes it steamier. There was a lot going on in this story and it wasn't difficult to get lost. The thought did occur to me that perhaps some of that was by design, considering Court was frequently lost, in a state of confusion. It's a good story and I enjoyed it, especially the sex scenes which, honestly, were my favorite part. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a passionate love story with a touch of the supernatural, memorable character reminding us that anything is possible if we, like Dane, just have a plan. Thanks, Finn, for your entertaining, sensual story!

The first thing I noticed was the interesting diction. Very much immediate, in-your-face appealing.
The beginning’s simply beautiful in its stark terror. The gruesome condition Dane is found in… And then it becomes even more horrifying. I was trying not to cry by chapter two.

Dane is… special. Initially he seems like a windbag and I can see why people are annoyed by him. He is a force of nature, though. (Ha! I jotted that down before the book used the same words.) It does not take long to discover some disarming qualities in him and eventually he just completely wins you over with his bossiness and joyful determination.
Court? How could you not like Court? He’s got the quietly suffering goodness part down pat.

And between the two of them, the dialogue and interactions are sharp and fast and just about perfect, if somewhat drenched by lust. That last bit, though, isn’t quite the same as I’ve encountered in other books; it’s actually part of the plot, if you will, part of Dane’s personality and his, uh, technique for getting his way.

One of the key sentences is, “What Dane wants, Dane works at getting.” This is quite accurate. And thank god for it, or nothing in this story would ever work out.
I like those subtle themes that keep unabashedly repeating in various ways. Dane’s fast running, Court’s iron grip. That second. These elements, they’re pretty blatant, but at the same time they don’t grate like they would if applied clumsily. Ah, well-executed themes are a joy.

Classifying this… Maybe a mystical, contemporary fantasy with a strong romance and really detailed sex?
On that note, I did not expect the sex to be so excellent. Believably fun and easy and heated and natural and funny. Then again, the whole book is very funny. It made me re-read entire pages over and over, laugh about sentences, exchanges, and never once did it feel as though it was trying too hard, as so often happens with witty books.

Well, I feel really nauseous so I’ll just add the single thing that startled me.

It’s still easily one of the best books I’ve read these past months or longer.

Dane Harper is a happy go lucky gay man who's working for an environmental inspections company when the roof literally caves in on him. Course there was tornado involved... However Dane is a lucky guy and the paramedic who (somewhat supernaturally) rescues him from what would normally be mortal injuries is the boyhood pal of Dane's older (now deceased) brother. Both the brother and Court used to think of the tag along younger brother as Dane the Pain. Seems Court has had a secret healing power that he's managed to keep secret from most everyone but not quite secret enough. And now that Dane is back in Court's life he's determined to tag along again, no matter the danger that Court may be in.

This is not a review. This is 60% of a review. I borrowed this book on a Kindle loan and was only 60% done by the time the loan expired. I absolutely loved the premise of this story and the characters as described sounded great. But, for me, the prose never seemed to fulfill the promise. Worse, I'm not really sure why.

I think that the problem may have been the melding of the erotic aspects of the story with the relationship as established, just didn't work for me. I'll gladly grant that such things are a matter of personal taste and others may have no problems at all with these aspects of the story.

Also the dream segments of the story didn't mesh well (in my judgement), but then I have a long standing prejudice against dream segments.

Finally, the aspects of the story that I was most curious about were not the aspects that were being delivered, at least in the first 60% of the book.

I wanted to love this story but for some reason I wasn't able to. I wanted to finish this story but wasn't able to. When I borrow a book of this length and two weeks later, still can't get into finishing it, that tells me something.

The MCs in this book are not perfect, they are self-absorbed and stubborn. They place themselves into impossible situations, rarely work their way out unscathed......and hardly ever behave the way you would expect them to.

BUT.... together they make an engaging story.

Court has a very powerful gift, and uses it to save the life of Dane-the-pain-Harper. However, Court is a reluctant hero, he is uncomfortable with his gift and is an emotional mess. Dane is the light to Court's dark - he sees the good in everything, understands that he has been given a second chance and is determined not to waste it...much to Court's chagrin! Their romance is an interesting tug-of-war, and it was the back and forth between the two MCs that kept me engaged in the story.

As with Not His Kiss to Take by Finn Marlowe , I was creeped out by some of the details (turns out I am more squeamish than I thought). Also Dane's attraction to Court was a bit of a mystery to me…the discussion about this in the book was not clarify nor was it convincing.

Forever in One Second was magical, truly magical. I am a very very very content reader. :-)

The story starts by grabbing you with an explosive opening sequence, introducing Dane, Courtnay and the gift. Then a love story, so you know they are cemented together: their relationship solid and their love started and growing. And damn, the sex exquisite. I loved Dane's take charged attitude, his sense of humour and zest for life. Courtnay was a quieter soul, troubled but willing to open and accept. Mind you Dane would have never allowed Courtnay to have any other outcome. They are perfect for each other. Loved the playful dialogue between them as well.

We catch glimpses of the antagonists, and trying to figure out how they all fit is slowly infolded before the readers eyes. Enough to tantalize and redirect and make you eagerly turn the page hoping more of the plot will be reveled. The end ties everything up, compromises are made and you know a HEA has been reached,, that Dane and Courtnay et al will live a happy life, filled with laughter and love.

Delightful paranormal m/m with good characters and fast-moving, interesting plot. A man has the gift of fixing injuries; this earns him both the love of a childhood frenemy, and the attention of several, more powerful people who don't necessarily mean him well.

It's not too short like most of these books; I think I prefer a longer length. I've also figured out I don't hate all paranormals, I like paranormals where people have special gifts, like this one. It's the werewolves and vampires I could do without.

There was also another thing that confused me about this book--one group who threatens the man with the healing gift do so because it perceives the gift as evil, and this group is at very least implied to be Christian/Catholic. How does that square exactly with the fact that Jesus appears to have had the same gift??? Yes, I know bad guys aren't necessarily logically consistent, but still...
