1 & 2 Corinthians

Rate this book
A MESSAGE FOR TODAY FROM I & II CORINTHIANS The ancient city of Corinth represents both tremendous spiritual need and tremendous potential as a strategic location for evangelization. Recognizing the unique opportunity of this city, the apostle Paul spent more than two years ministering there, and remained in contact with the Corinthian church long after his departure. In addition to a strong emphasis on edification of the church through spiritual gifts, Paul's letters to the church at Corinth deal directly with a number of other issues also facing us today. In this Logion Commentary, Stanley M. Horton takes an in-depth look at the history, customs, word meanings, and contemporary application of Paul's letters to the church at Corinth.

This is an easy to read yet very insightful analysis of Paul's letters to the Corinthian church. The commentary makes it very easy to relate Scripture to our lives today and to the current culture. We can learn a lot about the unique opportunities that we have to speak into people's lives by studying Paul's response to the tremendous spiritual need of of the Corinthians. It's clear from Paul's letters that he not only understood their history and customers, but that he also had developed a personal connection and affection for them. Paul spoke from a place of love even when the message was difficult. His motives were pure.

Read this for a pastoral course and it was a very comprehensive commentary on these two books of the Bible. Some things were still left unexplained but on the whole a great research resource.
