About the Book: "Tsukimi, comes to the feelings she has for Shu. But it'll not have time to lament his fate, because due to an idea completely mad of Kuranosuke, the young otakette will have that one night to make... twenty-five dresses jellyfish?"
So... This is the first book in the series to lose a star from me. Without saying who, there is a scene in here where a woman pretends to have overdosed on pills. A man runs in, thinking to save her. When he finds out it was a prank, he slaps her across the face, punches her in the head a few times, and leaves without a word. The slap is not cartoonish violence, and is played seriously. He leaves a mark on her face and she can't stop thinking about it.
The behavior of both characters is upsetting to me. The female character had done other terrible, villainous things... but she was a villian. Now, she is transitioning to a sympathetic character who will likely have a redemption arc. I think we are supposed to be rooting for both of these characters. 😬😬😬
Still into the book, but this scene was rough for me.
Following from the last volume, the story progresses on with Tsukimi making big steps unknowingly just because she like designing & jellyfish so, so much. Kuranosuke is playing a big role in her life and still, she's unaware of it. The residents of Amamizukan were easily blinded with food and they're hilarious as always!
I cannot even move on with the series because I didn't read this yet. So now, I can finish it!
It´s not the first time I encounter violence in a manga, even among the ones targeted to younger ages, but I can´t condone it nor overlook it.
The storyline is still interesting as it evolves, but the comments and behaviors of Kuranosuke´s father and uncle towards young girls are disgusting and disturb overall the reading experience..
I will give the next chapters a try, hoping that we will see less and less of both these issues in this and other mangas.
I loved this story arc. Still not a huge fan of Shuu and Inari but I’m hoping their arc is going to start going in a potentially new direction. So ready for more of that lacking self confidence!
[Very small portions of Episode 10 and overlapping parts of Episode 11 as well as an element implemented in Episode 2 of the Princess Jellyfish anime follow and adapt this volume of the manga. Part of one of the bonus chapters of this volume, titled "Princess Jellyfish Heroes Part 1," is also adapted—in combination with a bonus chapter from a future volume—in the anime DVD's extras, titled "Princess Jellyfish Heroes☆ Part 1: Mayaya Chapter."]
Yay, this was better because there is ZERO scenes of Tsukimi crying over oniisan (I will never remember his name -_-) or any interaction between them. It is basically, the AMARS helping Tsukimi and Kuranosuke to make nice dresses for the girls at the play.
And can I say that I started to love Kuranosuke? Not only he is super nice (helping the AMARS, helping the actresses to have better clothes), but he also admitted the AMARS were his friends. Without feeling embarrassed. It was like saying the weather is nice... just announcing it without making a fuss or feeling embarrassment. In fact, he was quite angry when his classmates (flashy girls) mocked the AMARS. And his final words to Tsukimi! That he doesn't make these "after-before" out of embarrassment, but because he thinks Tsukimi is cute <3
So I don't care he is a transvestite, and that he loves dresses so much. I don't see him as a girl at all, he is quite manly (despite his looks). I am rooting for him (awww when he blushes... he! an experienced-in-women guy). In some ways it is quite similar to Gokusen (he doesn't have Shin's personality, but he likes a "loser" while he so cool), this love triangle, although at least Yankumi has never been a cry-baby (yeah, Tsukimi is cute, but since most of the times I want to shake her off and tell her to STOP BEING SO WHINNY -unlike my dear Yankumi- I still can't love her).
The "virgin-killer" (sorry, another one I can't remember the name...) is slowly starting to fall for oniisan.
I really don't know if I can say any more good things about this manga. If you've read up until now, then you are invested in continuing to read the volumes. The art and characters are amazing and I LOVE this manga.
I loved everything this series represented. it was comical while still being able to deal with overarching serious issues. I loved how different the characters were and how people choose to interact with someone that was so different from what was considered 'the norm.'
Retreading a bit of something done just few volumes ago - butchering already existing dresses to make into Jellyfish! Or in this case, slicing up cheap store-bought dresses to transform each into a unique jellyfish look for "25 Ophelias", a student theater performance
