Mitsuru Adachi

After graduating from Gunma Prefectural Maebashi Commercial High School in 1969, Adachi worked as an assistant for Isami Ishii. He made his manga debut in 1970 with Kieta Bakuon, based on a manga originally created by Satoru Ozawa. Kieta was published in Deluxe Shōnen Sunday (a manga magazine published by Shogakukan).
Adachi is well known for romantic comedy and sports manga (especially baseball) such as Touch, H2, Slow Step, and Miyuki. He has been described as a writer of "delightful dialogue", a genius at portraying everyday life, "the greatest pure storyteller", and "a master manga artist". He is one of the few manga artists to write for shōnen, shōjo, and seinen manga magazines, and be popular in all three.
His works have been carried in manga magazines such as Weekly Shōnen Sunday, Ciao, Shōjo Comic, Big Comic, and Petit Comic, and most of his works are published through Shogakukan and Gakken. He was one of the flagship authors in the new Monthly Shōnen Sunday magazine which began publication in June 2009. Only two short story collections, Short Program and Short Program 2 (both through Viz Media), have been released in North America, though Viz is scheduled to begin publishing Cross Game in October 2010.
He modeled the spelling of あだち (rather than 安達) for his family name after the example of his older brother, manga artist Tsutomu Adachi. In addition, it has been suggested that the accurate portrayal of sibling rivalry in Touch may come from Adachi's experiences while growing up with his older brother. Adachi did the character designs for the OVA anime series Nozomi Witches, so he is sometimes incorrectly given credit for creating the original series.

La verdad la he pasado bien y reído mucho con este manga, como con todos los de Adachi.
Una historia sencilla, divertida y con algunos giros inesperados que siempre agradezco, aunque no esté muy de acuerdo con ellos. Y como siempre: Una historia de béisbol que no va sobre béisbol. 😂

Tatsuya Uesugi adalah tokoh utama manga Adachi Mitsuru yang paling underdog dibanding lainnya. Dia memiliki karakter yang berkebalikan 180 derajat dengan saudara kembarnya, Kazuya Uesugi. Pemalas, mesum, dan tidak populer, Tatsuya dicap sebagai pecundang dengan semua sisi baik hanya dimiliki oleh Kazuya yang pandai, bertanggung jawab dan jago baseball.
Di seri pertama ini ditunjukkan perbedaan sifat2 mereka, dan bagaimana Tatsuya sebenarnya tidak sepecundang yang orang kira. Dibalik sikapnya yang easy going seperti orang tanpa beban hidup, Tatsuya sebenarnya orang yang dapat diandalkan dan mumpuni, asal ia punya niat untuk mengerjakan sesuatu. Tapi Tatsuya seakan sengaja membiarkan orang lain mencapnya buruk, biar Kazuya yang menerima semua perhatian dan pujian orang lain. Hanya Minami, tetangga dan teman mereka sejak kecil yang memahami sisi positif Tatsuya ini.
Pengarangnya realistis dengan menggambarkan meskipun Tatsuya memiliki bakat di baseball, dia tidak serta merta menjadi ahli tanpa latihan dan keadaan fisik yang fit. Digambarkan berulang kali tiap Tatsuya mau pitching/melempar bola, punggungnya selalu encok hahahaha. Perjalanannya untuk menjadi pitcher handal klub baseball masih panjang dan akan berliku-liku.
Touch adalah karya Adachi Mitsuru favorit saya selain H2, dan memiliki plot romance paling apik dari Adachi. Hubungan cinta segitiga Tatsuya, Kazuya dan Minami cukup sentral di cerita dan menjadi salah 1 alasan Tatsuya tergerak berubah dan tidak hanya menjadi bayang-bayang saudaranya.

The first ever baseball manga ever read and it still kinda holds up.
World: The art is classic Adachi it’s simple, it’s emotive and stylish. The world building is also good. Not a lot of depth and info dumping but it’s enough for the story to play out.
Story: A first basic introduction of the main characters with the brothers and Minami. It’s very standard high school drama for the 80s and all the boxes are checked here. Add the layer of baseball and it’s awesome.
Characters: Solid characters that are genre classics. These characters seem cliched now but they were the prototypes for the sports genre and they are fun. This era along with Maison Ikkoku, Ranma, Orange Road and others really set the tone for that characters are like nowadays.
A genre standard and legend begins.
Onward to the next book!

Touch of Adachi is the first manga of him I read when I was a Child. Be a guy, I hardly ever cry, but at that time. Sometimes, I remember I have make tear drop down when saw the death of Uesugi Katsuya. The brotherhood of two guys: Tatchan and Katcham is something that I respect. I just look at the picture of the both and worry. The sorrow not only I know, but all fans of Adachi sensei have. Touch is the manga live forever in my mind and my heart even until I grow up. I don't know why Tatchan gave up baseball in the end of this series. But watching some extra movies, which don't have in the manga edition, I understand. That's because, Tatsuya doesn't want to live as the shadow of his younger brother. That 's so sad. What an exciting manga I have chance to read in my life.

Mitsuru Adachi inserts a teenage romance in a plot about baseball in many of his mangas but Touch could probably be his masterpiece.
In my opinion, Touch's weakest point could be the "fanservice" Adachi makes out of comedy at some points, however, it's not unusual as it's from the 80s.
The strongest points could include:
- the background and quality of the drawings, even at the baseball match he creates perfect movements
- the perfect relationship between the twins and minami, with the ending of kazuya (which was a brave move for the author)
- strong characters: not only the protagonists but even the sidekicks
- teenage romance represented with accuracy, the solitude of the first love and the awkwardness for high schoolers
- tatsuya's development, I can't really talk about it without writing spoilers so I'd recommend reading the manga.

Bisa dikatakan ini salah satu yang terbaik dan menjadi fenomena di antara karya2 awal Adachi-sensei
Awal cerita dibuka dengan baik. Bagaimana Tatsuya betul-betul MC yang diremehkan. Karena pembandingnya adalah sosok yg sempurna.
Namun di sini sedikit demi sedikit, Adachi-sensei dengan ciamiknya memainkan alur sehingga Tatsuya menjadi MC yg menonjol (??)

I like how Adachi uses panels he's very good at telling a story via imagery. The characters are fun, the humor is good. The story flows well I can see why this did so well in the 80s. I might read more. 💖

My most favorite manga of all time. I've read this series 12 times already. Touch-chan is my first fictional boyfriend. This series imprinted me. Always in my heart.

Alright manga so far, I mostly recommend this for baseball fans⚾️This has a pretty decent story other than the baseball 😁⚾️💕

Adachi's unique style makes me feel good, all fuzzy and warm. The simple relationships between the various characters are so wholesome the humor is subtle, and I know that the plot will become epic

Ini adalah karya Adachi Mitsuru di masa-masa awal karirnya, seorang mangaka yang masih mencari bentuk. Agaknya, waktu itu Adachi belum menemukan gaya menggambar yang menjadi trademark untuknya, yang bisa dijumpai pada Niji Iro Togarashi, Katsu, Cross Game atau Short Program. Gambar Adachi dalam Touch 1 ini masih terlalu mirip dengan gaya mangaka yang lebih senior seperti Ozamu Tezuka dan Fujiko Fujio. Singkat kata, gaya menggambar Adachi dalam karyanya ini terlihat "antik".
Tentang gaya berceritanya? Manga ini mengambil latar belakang olahraga baseball, jurus andalan yang dipakai Adachi pada banyak karya berikutnya. Dan roman percintaan? Adachi menggabungkan dua resep banyak digunakan oleh mangaka menulis roman percintaan : cinta segitiga dan pertemanan sejak kecil. Hasilnya, sebuah roman yang walaupun terasa ringan tidak mudah ditebak jalan ceritanya.

I'd some difficulties to follow who was who (I was totally lost with the twins' art for half the volume, luckily they didn't have the same personality at all). Apart from that, the read was pleasant and entertaining. I enjoyed the relationships, they were pleasantly warm.

Les débuts de la série sont très sympas avec des personnages attachants et une thématique autour du baseball, assez équilibrée avec des moments de la vie de tous les jours. A partir du tome 7, la série prend un nouveau tournant que je n'ai pas trop aimé. On a un personnage qui se retrouve un peu forcé dans un rôle et ça m'a dérangée. Si les quelques volumes suivants étaient sympas, au bout d'un moment assister aux matchs de baseball est devenu assez redondant et rébarbatif (je ne m'intéresse pas à ce sport et n'ai pas réussi à comprendre les règles du jeu tout du long). Les quelques tomes où l'équipe subit des mauvais traitements étaient très problématiques, mais les derniers tomes rattrapent un peu le tout, avec des matchs intéressants. Au final, même si la série a quelques bons côtés, je l'ai trouvée trop longue pour le contenu.

期待低かったけど、あらうれし！当たりでした。描写は淡泊なほう？だけど、そこがエロいというのか、雰囲気のある作品でした。もう少し長い話だったら、もうひといきプッシュするのになあ～

Sweet, soft, nostalgic and poignant. What is not said in the dialogues could carry the world in it's weight.
