Sometimes, the greatest danger comes from those who are closest of all...

Jameson Hill is no stranger to a prison cell—but this one feels strangely worth it. He might have released Lily Hayes into the arms of her relieved family, but she wasn’t theirs anymore. Not really. And there’s no way she can be his, either. Not now...

Yet there’s more than Stockholm Syndrome at play when Lily arrives to bail Jameson out of jail. She wants him back—but more importantly, his family needs him. When he drops everything to be by his brother’s side, Lily wants to go too.

Problem is, Jameson is pretty sure there’s only one way the Hill family will accept as his fiancée.

But even a diamond can’t protect them from his past, and as charges loom, Jameson finds himself backed into a corner of his own creation. Until fate delivers the knockout blow...

Close Call picks up right where Flight Risk ended, with Jameson Hill being hyped off to jail.

The ever dutiful granddaughter, Lily Hayes makes her way home to assure her grandpapa that she is safe. What she finds is a side of Beaufort that she’s never seen before.

What follows is a story full of twists and turns, unexpected love and acceptance, and super awesome cameos!! Oh, and another cliffy because these two wouldn’t be content to just make it easy!!

In this book Jameson was still struggling with accepting himself being ‘important’ to his family and his feelings towards Lily. At first he tried to push Lily away by letting her go but when she called and told him she ran away, he instantly drop everything and picked her up.

It was funny how Lily lied to the cop and told him she was Jameson’s fiancee and they basically just went with it.

It was fake at first but then Lily was daring Jameson to propose to her and they were kinda engaged for real. Then Jameson hot caught by the cops again and the family decided that both Jameson and Lily had to get married.

By the end of the book Lily was kidnapped again by the grandpa’s hired man right before Lily and Jameson got married. Oh and she suddenly decided to take a pregnancy test and the result was positive.

I love the HILL brothers and of course little sister Remy too. Since Masons book, I’ve wondered about Jameson. Each child in the Hill family had a unique roll to play after their parents died in a fire. With Mason as the protector, Gabriel as the one who held everyone together, Jameson was the one to question his role. He figured out it was raising Remy the youngest Hill child. Their bond is incredible. But Jameson thinks of himself as the avenger who goes about breaking the law trying to right those wrongs he sees happening around him. When he learns that his parents death was a murder, he looks further just like his older brothers and finds someone to blame for the misfortune the siblings have to deal with shortly after being told their parents are gone. Jameson focuses on get even with the judge that took everything from them. However he didn’t expect to fall for the victim of his retribution. What happens when he finds out the woman he’s kidnapped has feelings for him too. And how will he protect her from her awful grandfather who has only thought of her as a pawn. What happens when she takes herself out of play? Read this amazing trilogy to find out. I cannot wait to see how it ends.

All hail Queen Amelia Wilde.

This was fabulous.

Picks up where Flight Risk leaves off.

This packed so much emotion for me. I teared up for Jameson a few times. And I cannot stand Lily’s grandfather. Meh.

They’re was soooo much heat.
Possessiveness.
Humor.
Sadness.
And I believe some healing.
And ohhhh the happy… love love love the hospital scene.

I generally really like Amelia Wildes books but this was
not nearly as good as the first book in the series. I finished it but skimmed large sections to get to parts I was interested in. Book 3 doesn’t come out until May of 2024. Long wait. Hope it’s worth it.

Close Call is the second book in the Risk Trilogy featuring Jameson Hill. Books must be read in order. We get so much good Hill family in this second book. Jameson’s goal when he kidnapped Lily was to make her obsessed with him, only thing is the obsession is real on both sides. Although the undertones of the book are suspenseful, Amelia throws in dashes of witty. I knew the cliffy was coming, it didn’t surprise me, but man I can’t wait to see Jameson go feral, because I’m sure he will. I also want to see Lily get all the answers she needs.

Close Call picks up right where Flight Risk left us. Jameson trying to right his wrong and Lily not having it. His family needs him and she is determined to help. Whether he likes it or not.

Lily will never be able to go back to the person she was just days ago. Jameson’s truths have opened her eyes to realities she has blissfully ignored. But, when she tries to go home, her grandfather shows his true colors and Lily does the one thing she didn’t think she would ever do- she asks Jameson for help.

Lily’s grandfather is determined to have her under his thumb. He pulls out the dirty punches, but the Hill brothers aren’t young and vulnerable any longer. Plus, their reinforcements are not only familiar faces if you are an Amelia fan, but just as connected.

With her grandfather gunning for both of them- they make a plan as a family.

How this ends depends on who is more determined.

description

Jameson and Lily's thrilling saga moves forward, with Jameson landing behind bars after dialling the police on himself. The intriguing backstory unfolds in the initial book, Flight Risk. Astonishingly, Lily comes to his rescue by bailing him out, claiming to be his betrothed. Jameson likens himself to a crime scene and frequently gets incarcerated while attempting to accomplish good deeds. His restless mind hasn't found peace since his parents met a tragic end, and he's haunted by the horrifying nightmares surrounding his brother Mason's fate. Consequently, Jameson fights to stay awake.

Lily, on the other hand, is a woman determined to chase her ambitions — becoming a successful lawyer and eventually a judge. However, her journey is far from complete as she unearths shocking revelations about the grandfather who raised her. Disturbing lies lead her to flee from the prison created by her bodyguards.

Undeniably drawn together by an electrifying connection, Jameson and Lily are the perfect match for one another. Their chemistry is simply undeniable and off-the-charts! According to brothers Mason and Gabriel, marriage seems like the ultimate solution for their whirlwind romance. But will they actually tie the knot on their wedding day? You'll have to read on to find out! Brace yourself because this second book leaves you hanging on the edge of your seat, eagerly anticipating the epic conclusion of Jameson and Lilly's enthralling tale.

Close Call is the thrilling and sexy second book in the series. This story is Amelia Wilde at her absolute best. Lily and Jameson's story kicks up several notches in this book as danger follows them at every turn. The two of them have a lot standing in their way but grow closer and fall further as they face their obstacles together.

I really enjoy the way this author weaves this story, laying out the intrigue in an engaging way and putting the focus on the two main characters and their relationship development. Jameson and Lily are very different people but somehow are so perfect for each other. Their banter is funny and their chemistry is fantastic. Although things happen fairly quickly between them I never got the impression that it was an insta-love situation, rather, it was two souls who recognized that they fit perfectly together even though the odds were stacked against them. Jameson had a lot to contend with internally but Lily quickly became and anchor for him without him really realizing it. Their intimacy felt organic and was really what pushed their relationship to where it was by the end of this book.

The plot of this story is perfectly well rounded, with the intrigue and romance elements working perfectly with the family moments with Mason, Gabriel, and the rest of the Hill's. I absolutely loved the cameos we got from the characters from this author's other series, which added a layer of fun to an already incredible story. The cliffhanger we are left with at the end of this book is an intense one that has me anxious to see what will happen next with Jameson and Lily and what else they will have to face before finding their happiness.

Close Call
(Risk Series Book #2)
By Amelia Wilde

You just want to take Jameson into your arms, hug him, tell him things will be fine…but in Jameson’s world will they? Will things be fine?

While he waits in jail, Lily is making a list of her own..a list of mitigating factors when she thinks of staying with Jameson or walking away….the problem becomes there are more positive mitigating factors on the Keep Jameson list than there are negative side…her answer to freeing him…tell the police they are engaged and nothing went on that she didn’t want…..(those darn mitigating factors again)

There are highs and there are lows….baby Hill is on it’s way, Lily and Jameson need to spend a lot of time figuring things out and Lily needs protection, from her grandfather…maybe Jameson knows things she doesn’t know.

One of the best parts though was a walk on, stay for a while appearance by three brothers we know and love. You know when you have good friends they are there when you need them.

The ending is jaw dropping, it’s to bad we don’t get to pick our family! Jameson has a wonderful family, Mason’s friends are there to support. But someone is going after the Hill family and Jameson is their main target.

I can not wait for book 3, it will all end there….I an want that someone to Lose so badly!

Close Call get a 5 star review! I could not put this story down, I had tears in my eyes while reading the last page..my heart was beating!

Oh my goodness. This book picks up where Flight Risk left things, Jameson is in jail and really down on himself. He didn’t plan for things to go the way they did, but he is trying to keep Lily safe. Lily does what she thinks is right- she bails him out; claiming to be his fiancé, and then goes home to let her grandpapa know that she is safe. What she gets is a person she doesn’t recognize and a reason to escape.
This book had so many twists and turns and I found myself on the edge of my seat needing to know what was going to happen. Jameson is in love with Lily but doesn’t feel like he deserves her. He is also very interesting and multifaceted. If he would use his mind for good (which he kind of does, just not always legal) he would be unstoppable.
Lily is strong, but doesn’t want to believe the truth about Beauford. She feels safe with Jameson and can’t believe how welcoming his family is. The chemistry between them is fantastic. She is surprised with how deep her feelings are for Jameson and she surprised me a couple of times, especially in the park.
Just when you think they have the upper hand, things take a turn and you are left wondering what will happen. I need the next book so I can find out if they get their HEA and how. I really enjoyed this book. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.

A great second book to this series!

Jameson and Lily’s story continues with Jameson in jail because he called the cops on himself. The reason is in the first book, Flight Risk. Lily bails him out, which is a total surprise, stating she is his fiancé. Jameson calls himself a crime scene. As I see it, he’s in jail a lot, but trying to do good. He’s is so unsettled in his mind since his parents died the way they did, and because of what happened to his brother Mason at the same time, he wills himself not to sleep because of bad nightmares. Lily has worked hard at what she wants to do in life, become a lawyer, and then a judge. She’s not finished yet, though. In the interim, she finds things out about her grandfather who raised her that blow her mind. He tried to imprison her with bodyguards. She runs away. Jameson and Lily are good for each other. They can’t deny the electric chemistry between them. It is definitely off the charts. The solution to all this, according to Jameson’s brothers, Mason and Gabriel, is for them to get married. Do they get married on their wedding day? Read to find out. This second book ends up with a cliffhanger. Now I can’t wait for the final book of their story.

To avoid spoilers from book 1, I will keep my review short.

The story picks up immediately after the ending of book 1, Flight Risk. There is never a dull moment in Jameson & Lily's story. Amelia wrote yet again a thrilling and addictive romance filled with unexpecting twists.

Just a lil shout out to JAMESON MF HILL. This man deserves every single bit of good and happiness & so much more.
Lily sees him and understands him. She grows in her confidence and makes herself seen to him as well. They are quite a pair.
And all the cameo's!!! Ohhh what an absolute treat it was to read about them all again.

It ended in such a thrilling cliffhanger. I cannot believe I will be kept on the edge until Plain Sight releases next year.

Close Call picks up right where Flight Risk left off, with the male main character Jameson in jail for kidnapping the female main character Lily, short for Lilith. He's not in jail for the whole book, so that's a good start. Lol.
Anyway, Jameson reunites with his family and I just want to hug him. He just feels out of place, as the bad boy crime scene who is stuck in the middle of a perfect family who has turned their lives around. He doesn't see that Lily is the one to help him. And that he is the one to help her.
This series is the most emotional and angsty out of the three brothers so far. Jameson is a very emotional character who is high strung and needs to be talked off the ledge a lot. His family and Lily have unending patience with him, but he just doesn't see it and doesn't realize how much they love him. There is a great cameo with some friends from another series, but you won't get lost if you haven't read those books yet.
It ends on a cliffhanger, and there is the (unnecessary, in my opinion) death of a cat that takes place. I know why it happened but it's the second book in 2 days I've read with a cat death and I'm like, come on. Otherwise, it was a great read and I'm looking forward to finishing the series

The story follows Lily Hayes and Jameson Hill, whose story started in Flight Risk. In this book, Lily bails Jameson out of jail and claims to be his fiancé, which leads to a story full of twists and turns, unexpected love and acceptance, and super-hot chemistry. The book is a page-turner that sets your heart racing and is instantly addicting. The characters are well-developed, and the plot is engaging. The book ends on a cliffhanger, which leaves readers wanting more.

Overall, Close Call is a great read that is highly recommended for fans of dark romance. The book is well-written, and the story is captivating. The chemistry between the main characters is intense, and the plot is full of suspense and intrigue. The book is a perfect blend of romance, danger, and passion. The only downside is that the book ends on a cliffhanger, which can be frustrating for some readers.

In conclusion, I would give Close Call by Amelia Wilde a 4-star rating. The book is a great addition to the Risk trilogy and is a must-read for fans of dark romance. The story is engaging, the characters are well-developed, and the chemistry between the main characters is intense. The only downside is the cliffhanger ending, which can be frustrating for some readers.

Close Call, book two in Amelia Wilde’s Risk trilogy, is phenomenal! It’s fast-paced, funny, and exciting.

We pick up right where Flight Risk left off. Jameson is in jail for kidnapping when Lily, his kidnapping victim, comes to bail him out. In the meantime, Jameson’s family has been looking for him because of a family emergency, so when Jameson and Lily go their separate ways, it’s unlikely they’ll get back together - except they do.

This book is a banger. I absolutely love the wittiness and warmth of the writing. The character of Jameson is perfect - the third broken brother in the Hill family who believes he is too broken to be loved. Lily is his perfect mate who loves Jameson in spite of himself. I love how the entire family comes together to support Jameson and Lily. We even get a visit from Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon. Close Call has the trifecta that all good books need - World building, great characters, and a strong narrative.

Close Call is book two in the Risk trilogy. You’ll have to read Flight Risk to be caught up on the story, but it’s so worth it. Read it and let me know what you think - I’d love to discuss.

It took me a hot minute to get into the story as I was trying to remember how it had ended in the first book.

Jameson seems to try everything to push Lily away from him, I mean even calling the cops on himself. He can’t fathom why someone would care about him outside of his family because of how his life was before she came into it. I think Lily is perfect for him as their beginning was not as you would think, but she gave him the benefit of the doubt and is falling for him. She continues to surprise him and also confuses him in how she seems to fight for him. I can go on and on but don't want to give too much away, but I really liked how we were getting more and more information and how sentimental he really is.

Amelia Wilde loves to have us cheering how things are going but then pulls the rug out from under you. I love it but hope it is not too long for the 3rd book because again it took me a moment to remember what happened in the first books because of the wait between. So, if you don't like to be left hanging by a thread, you may want to wait until the last book comes out.

The gripping followup to Amelia Wilde’s Flight Risk and Close Call starts where the first book left off with Jameson Hill heading to jail for kidnapping Lily Hayes. He’s ready to pay for his crime but didn’t reckon on Lily who’s determined to see him released as soon as possible no matter what she has to do. With a fantastic story, full of twists and turns and great relationship development. Jameson was such a complicated and broken character struggling with what he had done but Lily was so good for him, teasing him with some wicked banter, almost making it sound as though their introduction had been a simple boy meets girl and they’d fallen for each other instead of sounding like she was suffering from Stockholm syndrome and there is some seriously sizzling chemistry between them. With some fabulous cameos from characters who will be familiar to regular readers of this author this book was a quick and easy read. It does end on a cliffhanger, and I would strongly recommend reading Flight Risk first, but I can’t wait for the final book in this amazing trilogy.

I got immersed in Jameson Hill's complex world, where love and redemption collide. Jameson, a man with a troubled past, grapples with accepting love and stability, while Lily Hayes fights fiercely for their relationship. After Lily bails Jameson out of jail, their journey unfolds, revealing deep family secrets and emotional turmoil. What struck me most was the intense emotional rollercoaster Jameson rides, torn between his criminal history and the yearning for redemption and love. The story beautifully balances heartwarming moments with Jameson's family, adding depth to the characters. Despite its passionate romance and engaging plot, a tragic event, the death of a cat, left me with mixed feelings. The book's humor and light-heartedness provided a refreshing contrast to the intense storyline. The cliffhanger ending left me craving more, making this story a captivating read that lingers, showcasing Wilde's skill at weaving intricate and compelling narratives and looking forward to the next one.

The first book in this trilogy, Flight Risk, should be read before moving on to Close Call as the backstory is necessary to understand the depth of Jameson's seemingly "reckless" behavior. Close Call picks up where FR ended with Jameson behind bars and Lily coming to bail him out, even though he freed her from his kidnapping. Lily is drawn to Jameson and sets out to prove or disprove what he told her about her grandfather and his ties to the Consotium, the organization responsible for his parents' deaths. She's sees glimpses of the dark side to her "loving" grandpapa, and runs to the safety of Jameson's arms.
I loved the protectiveness Lily showed Jameson in becoming his "partner in crime" as he continued his crusade to rid the world of the corrupt elite. I absolutely LOVED the cameos of some of Amelia Wilde's other beloved characters as they brought levity to the seriousness behind the Consortium. This one ends on a cliffhanger, and I can't wait for the conclusion!

My poor sweet broken boy, Jameson. He is a hot mess! His feelings for Lily are complicating his vengeance! Close Call begins directly after Flight Risk’s shocking cliffhanger. It is the second book in a trilogy and the books must be read in order.

Jameson and Lily are absolutely hilarious. The snarky banter was so much fun to read especially when Lily is teasing him about being a criminal mastermind. I also really love the way this author writes about families. My favorite parts of this book were all the Hill brother moments. This story had some especially great ones between Mason and Jameson. There were also some exciting appearances with Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon including an impromptu bachelor party.

Close Call ends with another shocking cliffhanger. I can’t wait to see what happens next when the trilogy wraps up.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is the second book in the Risk Series. You will need to read Flight Risk first or you will be lost. This book starts right were we left off with Jameson being hauled off to jail. Olivia though is headed home. He grandpa needs to know that she is safe. However she is about to discover things about Beaufort that she has never seen before. Buckle up this is a crazy ride full of twists and turn and just as amazing as I expected it to be after Flight Risk. I am so invested in these characters and I could not wait to find out what was going to happen. I cannot wait to have the next book in my hands. I about had a cow when this book ended. I am going to be on pins and needles waiting to see what happens next.

Oh my did Amelia do a great job with Close Call. This picks up right where book 1 ended. Amelia writes Jameson and Lily’s story flawlessly with so much emotion. You feel what the characters are feeling as you’re reading it. I am so in love with Jameson. He may be complicated and seem like he doesn’t care, but he is still that person who will do anything for his family and those he cares for. You can still see glimpses of the child he is inside. My heart just goes out to him. Lily has brown so much in this book and has realized that not everything in her life was as it seems. Watching these two fall in love was beautiful and I cannot wait until the final book to see what happens. These two are definite soulmates and we’re born for each other. After that ending….I am needing to know what happens next. I love these Hill brothers.

I love this author's books EXCEPT for the cliffhangers!!!!!!!
When her evil grandfather shows his true colors and threatens both Lily and Jameson's lives, it forces them to become engaged in order to bring a spotlight to them to protect them. What was meant to be a revenge plot soon becomes much more of an undeniable love.
Jameson is such an interesting guy and while not my favorite of the Hill brothers ( Mason is still my to go to! ) I love how unique he is, and he seemed to be the one most of all of the four siblings to be the closest to his mother before she died. I mean he kept a teacup of hers that she used each day... he is something else! And I love the way Lily just becomes his biggest fan and supporter. She really opens up and becomes a wild and adventurous type, following Jameson on his midnight missions. Of course, I LOVE the whole 'this can only be fixed IF you get married' trope so ya, I am soooo ready for book 3. And by the way... I am so excited about the cameos in this book are amazing especially if you like me, have read all of Amelia's other books.

Read if you like:
~ bad boys who are actually good boys and on a mission to bring down the bad people of the world who harm innocent people
~ cute fluffy birds
~ engagement of convenience
~ revenge plot
~ flawed tortured men
~ cameos of past characters
~ a girl standing up for what she wants

Thank you to the author for an arc of this book, sorry for the late review.

It’s been a minute since I’ve read Flight Risk, (book1) but that didn’t seem to matter because Amelia Wilde just knows how to suck us right back into her world. And that’s what happened to me.

I think Jameson and Lily might just be my favorites. The banter is at a level 10+, Lily just isn’t going to take Jameson’s BS, she’s going to stand up for the both of them, no matter what. Jameson is the backbone of the Hill family, now if he could only just realize it.

This story is just so good! Don’t look for that HEA quite yet because there’s one more book for us to get it. But you can look for some of our friends from Amelia’s other books! I am a fan of Amelia, I love what she does, and this series is definitely one of the reasons why.

This is the second book in this awesome trilogy, and Jameson and Lily’s story continues straight on from the ending of “Flight Risk”.
Jameson is in jail after being arrested, and Lily arrives to bail him out. These two are opposites, yet they bring out the best of each other. This story ends in an intense cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to read the conclusion!
This is a well written action packed, emotionally charged story, with family, angst, tension, witty banter, twists, grump / sunshine, undeniable chemistry, suspense, danger, intrigue, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and steamy dark romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Even though the actions that brought Lily into Jameson’s life weren’t ideal she might just be the best thing to ever happen to him. The feelings he was developing for her were unexpected so he makes a decision thinking it will distance her from him however he hadn’t expected her to become his savior.

Lily can’t deny the feelings she has for Jameson, so she isn’t about to leave him to the fate he has chosen, and that decision only becomes stronger as she begins to realize that everything, he says might be true even if her heart doesn’t want to agree.

The chemistry between them burns stronger but we now get to see the deepening emotional connection between them as well. His family is supportive as always and they will need it after that cliffhanger.

Loved all the parts of this story including our friends Hades, Zeus, Poseidon and their families that are in a decent chunk of this book.
Lily and Jameson are just so perfect for one another. Their sense of humor are the same- dirty jokes and making light of truly scary situations. There was danger and drama with Lily’s grandfather but I never felt like they were in danger since his brothers are always there to help. I think Jameson is finally starting to see that he is truly loved by his family and he’s not a complete failure at life, but I think it will take him time to fully realize it.
The end leaves us hanging wondering if Lily and Jameson will really get their happily ever after. Can’t wait for the final book!

Close Call picks up right where book 1 left off.

Jameson finds himself once again locked up in a prison cell. Lily would go out of her own volition so he had to do what criminal masterminds always do, cause trouble and get arrested.

But for Lily desperate times call for desperate measures and the only way to get Jameson out of his prison cell was lie and bail him out.

Danger looms over the both of them, but Lily being Lily is ever hopeful that things will turn out, but it turns out Lily doesn’t know what the man that raised her is capable of and it’s up to Jameson to keep both of them alive.

Even if they have to have a fake wedding that suddenly feels real.

This is such a great book but it is hard to describe how it made me feel. I had tears in my eyes at times. I just wanted to hug Jameson and tell him he was a good person. Lily was so good for him and such a lovely character as are all the female characters in Amelia Wilde’s stories. The men on the other hand are so complex and full of angst and this story is no exception. They all have a soft side as well and love fiercely. Seeing Hades swaddle Robin is a great example as is Mason caring for Robin in a carrier attached to him. Just when you think Jameson will get his happy ever after tragedy strikes, poor Lily whatever next!

OMG, the closer it got to the end, the more I kept losing it! There are so many opportunities for something bad to happen. I kept waiting for s**t to hit the fan. But it also made me feel like the characters should have been more concerned. I would be looking over my shoulder 24/7. I really enjoyed this book because it truly made me believe that it would take a LOT to get Jameson out of self-destruction. He has so much trauma piled inside that I'm surprised he is still functioning. It made me sad for him. But I have to say, I love the turn of events and the mixed in characters. This story shows a united family at its best. I can't wait to read how they handle what comes next.
