On Angel Wings

Rate this book
Xavier is the only angel in Heaven to have been created without wings, the one considered to be among the weakest of the beings, but when he is given the mission to go to Earth to help a human regain his faith and to retrieve the first angel ever created, he finds everything he knew about his home is a lie. Once he meets Heath Noland, the human whose faith must be regained, Xavier finds a man broken and a challenge he isn't sure he can conquer, but one which seems infinitely easier than retrieving the first angel, who has been nicknamed "The Fallen." The Fallen has lived out his existence by killing all the angels who have been sent to take him back to Heaven. When Xavier crosses his path, he thinks the other angel will be no different. He will never be so happy to be so wrong.

Two prostitutes were riding around town with a sign on top of their car that said: "TWO PROSTITUTES -- $50.00."

A policeman stopped them and told them they'd either have to remove the sign or go to jail.

Just then, another car passed with a sign saying, "JESUS SAVES."

One of the girls asked the cop, "Why don't you stop them?"

"Well, that's a little different," the cop smiled. "Their sign pertains to religion."

The two ladies frowned as they took their sign down and drove off.

The following day the cop noticed the same two ladies driving around with a large sign on their car again. This time the sign read: "TWO ANGELS SEEKING PETER -- $50.00."

He doesn't even meet Adam until 37%

Every time Xander talks to the angel on the phone it's like two middle school girls trying to one up each other. Highly annoying and very immature dialogue

I liked the very beginning but then it went on too long and the pace never picked up.

Too many pov changes to keep up with.

And their always drinking. Just a bunch of alcoholics. Got old reading about them drinking and then stumbling around and fumbling with keys. Then passing out. Then hang over. Yes we all get the drink cycle don't need to read it over and over again. I didn't really enjoy this scene the first time and pretty much hated it as it became a repetition.

Two females in this and they both bitches. First god the uber bitch slut and then Arthur's gf Katie. She's the pouty butch that distractedly sulks in the background because she jealous of bro time. Oh and them there was a fat female nurse but she barely mentioned beyond the physical.

Ending had me rolling my eyes and thought it was just really stupid. But then I was just happy it was over.

This story had everything. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me shake my head and think WTF more than once.

It started out kinda strange but that was just because the authors view of Heaven was a little (okay a lot) different then mine. So it took me a while to figure out what was what, who was who, and the gist of how things work "up stairs". At this point it was like a 3 star read.

Now, when Xavier goes to Earth it picks up a full head of steam and covered a wide range of feelings and emotions. I was loving every second of it, even though some parts were pretty sad. This section of the book was an easy 5 Star read.

The ending...now the ending is why I took a couple days to write my review. I was not sure how I felt and I wanted to separate my feelings on religion and what was written in the story. I am not a religious person but it got seriously strange and a little unsettling at times. I know its a make believe world but still, I was struggling with reconciling the two. The ending to me was a 3 star read. I guess I was expecting something different and that's not smart when reading sometimes but I guess I wanted it to be a little different.

So all in all, it was a good read, and I could not put it down (which makes it a keeper.

Has anyone seen the movie Dogma? This reminded me of Dogma a couple times and then the author even mentions Kevin Smith and had me shaking my head. Good book and good movie and long as you don't get offended too easily.

I'm not sure how to rate this one. I enjoyed a lot of the story and Xavier was just so adorably cute! The ending of the story was a bit rushed and chaotic for me. All of a sudden you learn all these things about Adam but they seem to be thrown at you without time for explanations. It left me with a few unanswered questions.

Xavier has been called forth to go on a double mission, to restore the faith of a mortal and to return The Fallen angel to Heaven, neither task is easy. Heath has been shattered by the deaths of his fiancé and his grandfather, his faith is rock bottom and when a man appears at Heath’s feet, who then later proclaim that he is an angel, Heath ends up helping the man. Adam refuses to return to Heaven, and he has the wings of the angels sent to retrieve him as proof, nothing can make him go back… except the little angel sent to help his friend.

This is quite an interesting novel, which has a few different twists on Heaven. Xavier works in the ACD (Animal Creation Division) in Heaven. well, he is mainly a paper pusher now after too much to drink and a little experimenting (oops here comes the Platypus), so he is very surprised to be sent to Earth to complete two missions… especially when he doubts very much that he will be coming back intact. Heath lost his fiancé to a horrific attack and then his grandfather, now he has no faith in God, but the little angel he meets helps to heal his soul a little. Adam hates God and refuses to return to Heaven, but when he meets Xavier he knows that God has played the trump card and there will be one last confrontation between them.

I found this storyline to be intriguing and I enjoyed the twists that presented themselves, I found the writing to be a bit rocky at first but it soon smoothed out and it was easier to stay in the story. The characters are interesting, Xavier truly seems meek at first and then turns a bit fouled mouthed when he gets to Earth but his gentle nature stays the same. Heath is a well portrayed character who really does get beaten down in the faith department and I was really surprised that he wasn’t suicidal (I would have been in those circumstances) and although he is brisk and brash at first you warm up to him quite quickly. Adam is The Fallen but not everything is as true as it seems, when we first meet him he comes across as evil but you get the feel that something is being kept from us, when you find out the truth you want to bitch-slap God right in the face… yes my hand was itching.

The relationship between Xavier and Adam is slow to form, but progresses well. Xavier and Heath become good friends. although there are one or two kisses between them. Adam and Xavier are really hot together and they don’t jump into bed straight away. The image of Heaven that is portrayed in this book is like nothing we have been led to believe, and God is not quite as benevolent as portrayed either, during the last scenes you really do want to do violence towards God just to cause God the same pain that God caused Xavier. Oh and the warning about rape, well it’s spoken about, there are no rape scenes or near rape.

So, if you fancy your Heaven a bit different, your angels good and bad, your sex causing sparks, your friendships fast developed but strong and a happy ending for those involved then this is the book for you.

Xavier & Adam were cool, but personally I'd have had a whole lot harder time with Adam's 'trophy room' than Adam did by the end of the story.

And Heath's character was just perfect, start to finish. But it was pretty clear from the start that he was going to be met by his deceased ex when 'the big event' happened. So it wasn't quite as emotional a scene as I was hoping for. (But yeah, you'll probably still shed a tear.)

This one was well on its way to a 5-star review -- and then came the last chapter. Seriously, WHAT THE FUCK ???

Trapped in an ivory tower in Heaven itself by a jealous, *whackadoo* redhead named Zoe, aka God 'herself'.

Then a quick escape and a few pages of explanation about vampire demon hybrids, mad scientists and "The End"? No, definitely not worthy of all of the great pages that came before.

I'd suggest that you read and savor every single page until Xavier shows up to rescue Adam, then close the book and *pretend* the escape was completely amazing, happily ever after. The End.

3.5 stars upped to 4 for Goodreads.

I did enjoy this book. For some reason I've always shyed away from Angel books and I've now read two in short succession, and enjoyed both.

I will admit I had a few niggles with the story though. I had expected Heath to be a lot more 'broken' after what he'd been through. The blurb implied much more. Another issue (Hidden in spoiler because it does give away a huge plot issue)

Personally I think the story should have been longer, more fleshed out. Then it wouldn't have all seemed rather rushed in the end. I also have unanswered questions. But all in all a good read.

This was a solid 4 star read. Interesting take on heaven and God. Really loved all of the mc's and the story telling was amazing. Got completely sucked into this one. Almost had the ugly cry going, but managed to just have quite a few tears. Was a little thrown off by the description of Xavier being short and fat, not really what I'm looking for in a sexual romance. That's why the 1 star deduction. Didn't really want to read about any sex between them. Hey, it's my fantasy world, I can be picky. (counted 304 pgs on my kindle)

Very interesting...

I'm a bit conflicted on how to rate this story... on one had... I actually really, really liked it.

On the other, A few things really irked me. Not because I'm a religious brat and this would have kicked my cans or whatnot... just.. something about it didn't fit...

Ah, I have my rating... (3.5) LOL...
Good story, though. I'd recommend it. :))

This was one angel story that ranked up to the high Heaven's along with other angel stories.

No offense to the author and it was great that P.F. mentions the content of rape or near rape, but what I read was the reminiscing of a rape scene without going into explicit details of the actions and the alone makes the story more bearable and should not deter you from reading it.
