I'd completely abandoned IDW's Transformer line a couple years ago, I found the plot lines to be over reachingly complex and poorly executed, and the characterization such that disliked just about everyone. But their new dual titles looked to be a fresh start, still the same continuity, but an entirely new direction. I decided to give it a try nearly on a whim, and I've been pleasantly surprised. The art change is fantastic, but with Alex Milne behind the pen, I couldn't expect less. Most of the heavy hitters are in 'Robots in Disguise,' so 'More than Meets the Eye' is making excellent use of previously minor characters. The plot is engaging, but what cinched it for me was the characters. These are guys I can feel for, their dynamics are equal parts hilarious and touching and I've become genuinely invested in them, something the previous series never accomplished. I'm really looking forward to each issue as it comes out, which is a wonderful change from the disdain I felt whenever I passed IDW Transformers on the comic stands.

Since Simon Furman's initial IDW run was meant to be "Ultimate Transformers," I dub James Roberts' work "All-Star Transformers"--it is as powerful, elevating and moving a depiction of giant robots as Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's work was of the Last Son of Krypton. Robot psychiatrists! Robot junkies! How to sell your alt-mode! Robot apartheid and war crimes and freedom fighters and best of all: what do Autobots do on shore leave?

A full breath of fresh air in the Transformers Comic continuity. I loved this series when it first came out and have recently begun re-reading from the beginning. I am constantly surprised by the depth of the writing and how much is packed into each issue, both in world building and seeding for future issues and storylines. Roberts is nothing short of a master, not only giving us all these wonderful characters to care about, but also in his attention to detail and dedication to the story. It's clear he loves these characters and he does them more justice than any previous fiction. Milne's art is clear and a joy to the eyes. The team at IDW really came together to produce a wonderful piece of fiction, one that I look to for inspiration and helped me find my calling as a writer. I can't thank them all enough.

Never has there been a better Transformer comic, I look forward to re-reading for years and decades to come.

I'm very disappointed in Prowl (and even more so Bumblebee). Some shady shit from bots you expect better things from.
We got to see how Ultra Magnus sees the world though, and honestly I'm not surprised, lol.
How the hell has Whirl ever been an Autobot tho? Dude oozes evil vibes. It was interesting to see him and Cyclonus Duke it out given what we know in Lost Light. Also- got me in the proto feelz when it was Tailgate who inadvertently saved him. 🤩
This was both funny, action packed and very surprising. Lotta emotions in the air
