Geeky but brilliant college professor Sadie Bligh has failed once again to win the most prestigious award in mathematics. All she has to show for her life’s work is a flat-lined career and a non-existent social life. So when her best friend suggests a wild week in Las Vegas, gambling and hooking up with hot guys, Sadie decides she has nothing to lose.
But Sadie’s first night in Vegas involves an unfortunate run-in with a mojito and a poker table, drawing the attention of the casino’s deputy chief of security. Nick Saxon thinks Sadie’s a problem, but she thinks he’s incredibly sexy. Since she’s come to Vegas to let loose, Nick just might fit the bill.
With a sick mother to care for and a boss who hates his guts, Nick has enough on his plate, and the bundle of mayhem called Sadie Bligh spells nothing but trouble. She’s also funny and smart, and the sexual energy between them could light up the Vegas strip. But when she’s fingered for counting cards at the blackjack table, Nick is faced with a stark choice: protect her and risk getting fired, or toss her out on her sweet behind and risk never seeing her again.

Well HOT DIGGITY DAMN!!! Now i normally say DON'T judge a book by its cover but in this case you sure can. Hot, sexy hunk on cover = awesome, sexy story on the inside! First up, i love stories that centre around Vegas... there is something about Vegas that brings about the loss of inhibitions, wildness and lots of hot, sweaty sex... hmmmmmm ... in this case we have the by-the-book, uptight, Math professor; Sadie who just wants to experience some fun in Vegas and she crashes quite literally into Nick, the gruff, sexy, ex-Marine with the panty-melting stare, casino security guard...ROAR!!! She wants him, but she's really inexperienced with men and he wants her, but his job prevents him from fraternizing with casino patrons... watching the build-up and then the giving in to all their pent up lust made me wish i was Sadie... DAMN, that Nick is sure has some moves...
Hot Number was a remarkably sweet story with enough heat to melt the polar ice-caps and then some. Throughly enjoyed it and can i say, i have yet to read a book by this husband and wife team; V.K. Sykes that i haven't LOVED! Definitely looking forward to more from them in the future!!!
Well, smoking hot cover on the outside and smoking hot romance on the inside. This is my first novel by the husband and wife team V.K. Sykes and I wasn’t disappointed. There’s nothing very heavy going on, no tragedy, it’s just a really good and fun contemporary romance – pretty high on the steam factor.
University Maths Professor Sadie Bligh has been living life by the rules on the straight and narrow in Chicago with a pretty humdrum existence and sex life. She gets overlooked for a prestigious maths award, much to the disapproval of her over-achieving father, and decides to throw caution to the wind and go with her assistant Cassie on a ‘What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’ week away at the Desert Oasis Casino resort. She’s highly intelligent, talks like she’s swallowed a dictionary, is gorgeous without really being aware of it – she’s definitely the epitome of geek chic!
Nick Saxon (Sherriff Studly!), deputy chief of security at the Casino a, tall, dark and handsome ex-Marine who gave up his military career to care for his ailing mother (what’s not to love here??) is watching Sadie teeter around his casino on ridiculously high skyscraper stilletto heels when she falls arse over tit and faceplants into a poker table. He drags her off to give her a stern warning about sobriety in the casino and escorts her back to her room. There’s an undeniable attraction between them and the next time they meet, she is sunbathing topless by the pool causing mayhem again.
Sadie is doing well at the poker tables – she’s actually counting cards due to her excellent mathematical brain and Nick’s boss (who hates him) orders him to watch her, catch her at it and ban her from all casinos in the US. Nick, of course, is falling for Sadie and they have a sooooper steamy affair. They even get the use of a beautiful spa one night after closing and this makes for a really hot chapter. This will all come to a head and Nick will have to choose between his job and Sadie.
It’s a whole lot of fun, lots of hot sex scenes, Nick is to die for, Sadie is a lovable goof – it’s just a really fun read.
Reviewed for InD'Tale. The short of it-some parts were good, Nick was cool, but Sadie annoyed me at times... And, BTW, there's no Nobel's prize for Mathemathics.
Holy HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The story of Nick & Sadie is great. Nick a former Marine now assistant chief of security at a large Las Vegas hotel is bowled over by the beautiful & constantly dangerous in heels math professor from the University of Chicago....Sadie. They sneak around out of the eye of the chief of security because it's against hotel policy for Nick to date a customer. His idea of dates are amazing for just meeting someone who is supposed to be just a short fling. Sadie gets hooked on blackjack & Nick is forced to watch her & follow through. What happens between them is sweet & sad at times because Nick is worried about losing his job & not being able to take care of his ailing mother. This was a great story of love conquers but, I wish that we would've known how it ended up. Definitely a recommend & a reread.
Hot Number is your typical romance novel; this one with the twist of a math professor counting cards in Vegas and the casino security guard who has to blacklist her. I liked the storyline and I liked Nick. I wanted to like Sadie. At moments I did, but for every moment I chuckled along with her there was another where I rolled my eyes. hard. Her dialogue was brutal and her righteous indignation at being caught cheating was just ridiculous. There were some steamy scenes (when Sadie wasn't talking), so that was a plus. Overall a cute read, but I certainly won't be re-reading it.
Not for me. I finished it, but just barely, skimming a good portion. It was kind of sweet but boring. Characters were okay, even a bit quirky, but lacked any depth. The story could have been a novella if not for the excessive insignificant detail the author dragged the reader through that had absolutely no pulse. Flat lined story that put me to sleep more often than not. I wouldn't even suggest it for a beach read.
Hot Number is about a math professor and a casino security professional who meet and fall in love. Through a series of events, we discover that living happily ever after May not come to this couple. Be advised that there are very adult scenes in this book.
I enjoyed Sadie and her strength and weaknesses. Nick was hot and thoughtful, caring and hot. This story makes me want to go to Las Vegas with a girlfriend :-)
