Kevin Kelly is Senior Maverick at Wired magazine. He co-founded Wired in 1993, and served as its Executive Editor from its inception until 1999. He is also editor and publisher of the Cool Tools website, which gets half a million unique visitors per month. From 1984-1990 Kelly was publisher and editor of the Whole Earth Review, a journal of unorthodox technical news. He co-founded the ongoing Hackers' Conference, and was involved with the launch of the WELL, a pioneering online service started in 1985. He authored the best-selling New Rules for the New Economy and the classic book on decentralized emergent systems, Out of Control."
The first time I heard about Kevin Kelly was from my colleague, he introduced me to one of Kevin Kelly's most influential book "Out of Control". Perhaps it is unimaginable to my colleague that things can be in a laissez-faire state. Kevin Kelly is different from others because his writing style that goes deep into the subject rather and thinking about the reason that made one thing became like it is now, philosophical while keeping some practical uses at the same time.
I read the Simplified Chinese version of "The Next 5000 Days". It delves into the future of technological advancements, particularly focusing on the impact of digital technology over the next 5000 days. Kelly predicts the emergence of the Mirrorworld, also known as the Metaverse, along with various forms of artificial intelligence that will revolutionize society. He talks about differences between GAFA (Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon), which one will sustain and which one will not.
Kelly emphasizes the evolution of the internet into a giant supercomputer capable of storing, sharing, and manipulating vast amounts of information. He discusses how humans are integral to this digital evolution, forming a symbiotic relationship with the internet. Human as the first living (intelligent) creature to create artificial intelligence, which was never been thought of.
The book highlights the increasing personalization and intelligence of the internet, foreseeing a future where online experiences are seamlessly tailored to individuals. Kelly's insights shed light on the transformative potential of technology and the profound changes it will bring to our lives in the coming years.
